Chapter 28:

Inutaisha watched as the sun slowly sank and the moon rose towards the sky. 'Please Kami, protect my pups and me from my enemies. Let us be victorious tonight.' She prayed silently. She looked towards the hut where the others were situated. They were eating before the big battle. She had already had her supper. Her supper had consisted of deer meat in which she had hunted herself. She had started to have the craziest cravings. It was strange being pregnant, but she could not wait to have her pups.

Kagoru, Inuyasha, and Kagome came out of the hut and walked towards Inutaisha. "Are you ready?" Kagoru questioned her.

"As ready as I can ever be Kagoru." She replied.

"Are you sure you want to go through with this Inutaisha?" Kagome questioned her.

Inutaisha smiled at Kagome. "You and Kagoru worry too much. I will be fine Kagome and I am sure that I want to go through with this."

"The sun is setting." Inuyasha commented.

"I must be on my way then. Be careful." She said as she stood up from her spot and turned towards the forest.

"We will. Inutaisha, please be careful." Kagoru told her as he looked at her with sad eyes.

She smiled again. "I will."

The moon had risen fully and Inutaisha wondered to herself if they would show. She wondered if Naraku knew that it was a trap. Inutaisha leaned against a tree as she looked in the moonlit clearing. It was such a long wait, but this was it. She would not let Naraku or Naraka win. They would die!

She listened silently to the noises of the night. Crickets chirped while fireflies flitted about her. It would be a perfect night for Kagoru and her to contemplate the future. She remained focused though and knew that she had to win this fight for her future and the pups that grew inside her.

The crickets stopped chirping and suddenly the night was silent. Her ears perked up as she felt a presence approach her. Standing up fully, she drew Tetsuseiga from her sheath. "Inutaisha." A male voice full of evil and malice announced.

"Naraku." She growled. Tetsuseiga vibrated with an anxiety that she had never felt before. Maybe it knew of the impending battle.

"I did not expect you to be out here alone and without your friends, especially while you are pregnant." Naraku said as he appeared in front of her.

"I'm not scared of you. You are just a coward Naraku. You can't fight so you have others fight for you." She mocked.

At this moment she noticed him bristle with anger. "Be careful with your words Inutaisha."

"Come on Naraku. If you want to kill me, let's see you do it." She launched forward, her anger spiraling into rage. Her sword clashed momentarily before she saw him smile and barely registered pain in her shoulder. 'Bitch!' She thought. She waited till the blade in her shoulder was out then twirled around and swung at Naraka. "Good, you're here too. I can kill both of you at the same time!"

Kagoru ran beside Inuyasha and Kagome. He noticed Sessha was following them by bounding from one tree to another. Many demons littered the sky with their presence. "Their here." Inuyasha commented.

"We got to get to her." Kagoru said as he drew out an arrow and fired it at a horde of demons coming their way. The arrow went off with a blue streak trailing behind it.

"Inutaisha will be fine for the moment. She is strong enough to defend herself." Inuyasha answered.

Kagoru spotted their other friends ahead. "Mirra, Sanga, do you think you can stay behind and handle these demons?"

"We might need a little help before you go. There are thousands of them." Mirra replied.

"We will only be able to stay so long. Inutaisha is expecting us."

"Then let's kick butt and get to her." Inuyasha finally interrupted.

They all looked to him and nodded their agreement.

"I don't know why you are alone Inutaisha, but all your friends will find is you dead." Naraka announced as Inutaisha held up her sword.

"You wish Naraka! You are nothing more than a coward and a bitch! If I had known that I was going to have this kind of trouble I would have killed you years ago." Inutaisha replied angrily.

"Hmph. Kyoshi, that utter fool. It's obvious that you take after your mother too much. Your love for humans is evident that you would die for them. Even your own sister hates you for being who you are...a half-breed."

"She may hate me but I would rather take after my mother than be a cold bitch like you." Inutaisha said then swung Tetsuseiga at her. "Besides, you're a half-breed too!"

The two battled and Inutaisha felt another pain go through her, this time in her side. She felt herself start to become very angry with the two. She felt her eyes begin to glow a deadly red as her claws and teeth lengthened. She would not allow these two idiots to hurt her pups. She sensed her sister and knew that she was near. 'Trust me Sessha. Just trust me.' She knew that the others were behind but would be coming soon. Before she knew it she was thrown back against the trunk of a tree. 'Let go Inutaisha!' Her mother's words echoed in her ears.

"Let go." Inutaisha whispered to herself. She closed her eyes and tried to grasp for the inner strength she needed. She knew they were approaching but refused to open her eyes. An image formed in her mind, she could see it clearly now. It was an image of a dog with red eyes. She growled loudly and cried out, "Now you die!" Then there was a roar that was heard over the entire forest.
