The City
Chapter Twenty-Seven
Baby looked up from her perch on Taree's neck as they crossed over into the Makai. Kagome was being carried on Hiei's back, Mai was on Kurama's and Tar was on Yomi's. The snake's tongue flickered across his middle ear, he swatted at her. "Don't you dare hit her. You should feel flattered." Tar screamed at him.
"I'd prefer your tongue over hers."
"Dream on Blindie." She felt like flicking his ears, all six of them.
"I'm sure I will." He kept up with the others as they traveled.
She wasn't sure if she should be flattered or insulted. He really couldn't be hitting on her. She sighed in disappointment once more. Her luck was more than fucked it seemed. They'd been getting ready to head out, bags in hand when Hiei informed Kagome to climb on his back to make the trip quicker. The three had only the one carry on bag with them. Yomi had stated he could find them more clothing if needed. So only personal items were taken. The bags were placed on their backs for the trip. Kurama had given Mai his back quickly as well. Kurama, Hiei and Yomi had taken off leaving her with Yusuke. She lifted an eyebrow waiting for him to offer her a ride.
Instead he sighed, "I hope you like walking."
She felt like she'd been kicked in the chest. Really, it's not like she weighed that much. He was more than capable enough to give her the damn ride. "I'll run thank you."
"Riiggght. Try to keep up." He took off staying in range so she could see him.
"Fucker." She started to sprint after him. He made sure to stay out of range of her curses but within eyesight. After a few miles she felt her feet begin to hurt but kept going. The others had to be at their destination by now. She suddenly stopped to catch her breath and maybe pass out. She closed her eyes for several minutes trying to calm her heart. She opened them to no longer see Yusuke up ahead. He'd gone and left her, "Bastard."
Yomi suddenly appeared before her. "Get on." She didn't protest as she jumped on his back to be carried.
Now they were almost to his city and she was ready for a nap and a shower. The beds better not be made out of straw or she'd be pissed. "I don't suppose I can get a shower when we get there?"
"Do I get to watch?"
"Sure look all you want." She almost laughed at him but was too tired. A headache was threatening to join forces with her heartache.
Kagome looked around the room she'd been given, it was nice. The place turned out to amazing in her opinion. Taree's room was located across the hall from hers. She almost smiled when she was informed that Mai had been placed in Kurama's quarters. She envied her friend, she wasn't sure if anything had happened between the two yet. But it was obvious the fox cared for her. What she wouldn't do to have that. Hiei had turned his back to her the minute he'd put her down. The name Mukuro had been spoken and he'd taken off not giving her a second thought.
Who was this Mukuro? The person was obviously important to Hiei, the way he had rushed off. Her thoughts were interrupted when the door slid open letting Taree inside.
"Wow this place is so cool." Taree skipped inside the room.
"Yep, think we are allowed to walk around by ourselves?"
"I don't know, but I intend to. I'm curious. Besides we were invited, we aren't prisoners." Tar grabbed Kagome's hand. "Come on lets go check this place out."
"Okay, why did you end up on Yomi's back anyways? He just suddenly turned around and came back with you. Did you and Yusuke get in a fight while he was carrying you?"
"Nope, he never carried me. After you all left he said, 'Hope you like walking' and left me there."
"That asshole."
"Yep but it's okay. It isn't his job to carry me around, so we can't get mad because he didn't want to." Tar decided they should go left.
"That's not the point and you know it. If he didn't want to carry you to begin with he should have spoke to begin with. First he tells Yomi not to touch you then leaves you there by yourself."
"When did he say that?"
Kagome thought about it. "Well, this is what I heard. Yomi said he should have given you a ride, regardless of what Yusuke told him. I'm not sure what Yusuke said exactly though."
"He probably meant it in another way. Just because he doesn't like me doesn't mean he wants someone to hurt me. He probably just distrusts Yomi's motives." Tar was sure that's what he meant. "Either way I'm glad Yomi came back to offer me a ride my feet were starting to kill me."
"Yeah, he doesn't seem to bad. Though I wouldn't want to be locked in a room alone with him." Kagome didn't trust him either but Kurama seemed to have a history with him. "He seems to like you."
"Yeah right, probably waiting for the right time to kill me and steal my necklace. He has to dislike me as much as Yusuke does." They were walking down a long hall, the walls black, very dreary looking. There were doors lined along the distance, probably more rooms. "So where did Hiei go?"
"I'm not sure, he ran off."
"You sound upset, what's wrong?" Tar heard talking and decided to be nosey, she directed them towards the sound.
"Well, he kind of took off when someone told him that Mukuro was here."
"Who's Mukuro?"
"I don't know, that's what worries me." Kagome admitted. She couldn't deal with another Kikyo situation.
They turned the corner and stopped, several people were in a large room talking. Yomi, Kurama, Yusuke, Hiei and a woman all stood around a large table debating it seemed. Kagome felt her heart sink at what she saw, the woman was standing awfully close to Hiei. More than close she had a hand on his shoulder in a very possesive manner.
Yomi noticed them first, "There they are now." Everyone else turned around.
"Yes, what of it?" Tar gave a big grin knowing he couldn't see it. She also saw what had Kagome distressed, time to get them out of here quick. Kagome was a lot tender hearted than she. "Now that you all got to see us we will be leaving. Oops, you know what I mean."
"Wait, before you two run off, I'd like you to meet Mukuro." He stated, his attention on the small girl.
The woman nodded at them, "Pleasure is all mine." She was being polite.
Taree felt Kagome tense and got angry. "You bet your ass it is. Come on Kagome," She grabbed her hand pulling her friend back the way they came.
Mukuro bristled at the statement and Yomi laughed. The woman turned to glare at him in response, he didn't care. The girls were indeed entertaining to watch. They had just snubbed one of the most powerful youkai around and didn't give a shit.
"Don't mind her, she's a bitch to everyone." Yusuke said.
"Really? I think she's quiet charming, definitely worth noticing." Yomi felt the anger coming from the detective.
"Yes, well they are both unique to say the least." Kurama felt the tension in the air.
"She is disrespectful." Mukuro added. "They both need a lesson in manners."
"Hn. I'd like to see you try, it would be fun to watch." Hiei grinned.
"I think I speak for everyone here. We don't want to be purified." Kurama shook his head at the image. "When you are a miko you don't have to worry about youkai. Us three learned by Yusuke's mistake not to try and harm either. They know what they are doing." Kurama recalled the time Yusuke had been storming towards the small girl. "To be turned to dust before even touching ones opponent is a sad way to die."
Kagome tried not to get upset but she was failing. Mukuro was a woman, an attractive woman also. A woman that seemed to mean a lot to Hiei. She already knew enough about Hiei to know he respected power and strength. That woman had screamed power from every pore. "How can I compete with that?" She blurted.
Tar stopped and tried to comfort her. "You shouldn't have to, you don't need to. Kagome you are a wonderful person, you have your own strengths. She may be a powerful youkai but you are a miko. Never be ashamed of what you are. If he can't see you for how special you are then he doesn't deserve you."
"That was award worthy," Kagome laughed through her tears. "Wish I had an emmy to hand you."
"Well, I wish I had some food. Let's walk around some more. There's got to be something expensive we can accidently break around here." Tar led her away, looking for something to play with or hit. They didn't have to go far before finding something.
They went up some stairs and found themselves on a hallway surrounded by railing, that actually over looked the oval room the five were holding their meeting in. The hallway wrapped around stairs leading off now and then to some unknown destination. Kagome groaned when a group of youkai came walking their way. They were dressed in armor so they were probably guards of some sort.
The girls tried walking past them, they weren't expecting any trouble. Too bad it came looking for them. As they brushed past one of them spoke, "Since when did Yomi start letting human scum walk around freely."
Tar spun on her feet and smiled. "Since when did shit talk?"
He struck out slapping her in the face. "Uptight bitch, you need to learn to respect your betters."
They started laughing unaware that the youkai below heard them. Taree brought her face around and smiled. "Kagome you with me?"
"Yep. He's getting hurt." Kagome decided to take her anger out on the youkai and put her training with Mai to the test. She kicked the closest youkai to her in the chest putting her energy into it. It hit made a big hole, he was sent flying back over the railing to land on the table below breaking it on impact.
Tar went for the one foolish enough to slap her, she bitch slapped him in return. A red welt appeared across his face, he fell to his knees screaming in pain. She wasn't done with him, she kneed him in the face. He went back breaking the railing, to land on the floor below.
The others withdrew their weapons, guest or not they were going to attack. "This is going to be fun." Taree raised her aura, Kagome did the same. Pink lights rose, one pale the other dark, it started to lash out at anything youkai. The one closest to them, screamed as his skin was turned to ash. He fell dead to the floor within seconds. The others started to run for their lives, the pink flames leapt towards them.
"Enough you two, they got the point." Kurama called up at them. He could feel the energy trying to make it's way down. "Stop before you accidently hurt someone."
Both girls calmed, Tar looked at Kagome. "At least we both broke something."
"Yeah, I feel better now." She laughed outloud. That had felt good, even if she had just killed someone. "You're a bad influence you know."
"I get told that a lot. Let's go before Blindie tries to make us clean up the mess."
