A New Life For Two

Chapter Twenty-Eight

Kurama walked inside his apartment when a voice came from his couch. "She's pregnant." He turned to find Yusuke sitting on the white leather couch. He had his head resting in his palms looking at the floor. Uncertainity rang in his voice.

"We both know it's yours. What do you plan to do?" Kurama dropped his bag on the kitchen counter. He'd stopped by store to pick up a few things, upon thinking things over he made a quick stop by the jewelry store. "How do you know?"

"She ran into me and Keiko in the park. She fainted, I went to pick her up and Keiko told me. I didn't believe it but then we took her to the hospital. They took her back to check on her, I stayed long enough for the doctor to come out and confirm it." He'd wanted to stay there and talk to her but seeing Kagome walk into the waiting room made him think twice. She looked ready to kill him. He knew he deserved it.

"Where's Keiko?"

"I left her there. I didn't know what else to do."

"I'm going to call Keiko, is there anything else I should know before hand?" Kurama grabbed the cordless phone.

"Oh, right before Sango showed up we split." At the fox's raised eyebrow he added. "It was mutual. She did the ending."

"I see." He dialed Keiko's cell phone. After a few rings she picked up. "Hey its Kurama. Yeah, Yusuke told me what happened. What did they have to say? I see. Thanks." He hung up. "I'll be back a little while, you are welcome to stay here unless you want to come with me."

"Where are you going?"

"I'm going to go speak to Kagome. Sango is back home, she was released. It was a fainting spell nothing more she is fine."

"No, I need some time alone."

"Don't think too long, she needs you." Kurama left the apartment to make his way over to the shrine.

Kagome and Sango had been worried that the family would be very upset about the news. Mrs. Higurashi had already suspected the truth but had been waiting for the girls to come clean. She scolded Sango for not being more careful then started talking about clearing the spare room for Sango and the new baby. The taijiya was laying in bed resting, doctor's orders. Too much stress wasn't good for her. Jaken brought a tray up and knocked on the door.

Kagome let him in, "Hey Jaken." He smiled at the girl. "I've brought some food for Lady Sango. She will need eat healthier now and get plenty of rest."

She smiled when he sounded just as bad as a mother. "Yes, thank you." The imp had found him a place within her family. She placed the tray on the bed and woke the girl up. "Sango, you need to eat something."

"I'm not really hungry." She didn't open her eyes but continued to keep her face buried in the pillows. Everyone had heard the girl cry herself to sleep.

"Well I'm not going to stop bugging you until you do. Don't make me cut the radio on and start singing." At the threat Sango turned revealing red swollen eyes.

"Fine, but if you so much as hum the plate is going in your lap." She sat up and looked down at the food. It smelt good but her appetite failed to get interested. The food was forced down her throat anyways. Anything to keep Kagome from singing.

Jakon knocked on the door once more, "My Lady, the fox is here. He wishes to speak with you."

Kagome knew it had been coming. Yusuke had to know now that Sango was pregnant. Though Keiko didn't know who the father was, they would. She went to go see what he wanted.

Sango placed the tray on the floor the moment Kagome was out the door. She layed back on her pillows once more. She now had a due date and an appointment with a doctor. Upon returning from the mission Koenma had pulled some strings and gotten her a false birth certificate and everything she would need. Tears sprang to her eyes remembering Yusuke's words. She should have just ran when she spotted the two. Now, there was no doubt how he felt about her and what was worse he now knew about her condition. Keiko had waited until she was released before leaving. So he hadn't told her that it was him that helped get her where she was.


Kagome walked downstairs to see Kurama talking to her brother. He was going on about becoming an uncle. She almost went over and smacked him one. "Souta leave," He turned around and looked at her. "NOW!"

"Alright sheesh. You'd think it was you knocked up with them horrible mood swings lately."

'Oh, I'm going to kill him. NOTE TO SELF: If I ever give birth to a son drown him at birth!' She waited for him to leave the room. Then turned on the fox. "What the hell do you want?"

"I've come to speak to you."

"You can tell your friend not to worry Sango isn't the type to go running her mouth. She won't tell Keiko anything. Now will you please leave."

"No, I won't. Yusuke is only part of the reason I came here. I came to see how she was doing." He looked at her features. Even in anger he found her beautiful.

"Like you care."

"Despite what you think I do, and so does Yusuke."

"Spare me, will ya." She walked over to him. Her finger jabbed him in the chest. "I don't want to hear it. There's nothing either one of you can say to make things right. Your friend is a bastard, who used my friend for god knows what reason. Then ditches her, if he wasn't going to commit he should have kept his dick in his pants. There is no excuse for his behavior. Nor yours."

"And what have I done?" He asked.

She brought her hand up to the front of his face. Her thumb went down. "One, you flirt with me. Try to win me over with that smile of yours just so you can try and get some." Her index finger went down, "Second you kiss me, twice! Once again playing with my emotions just so you can get some." Her ring finger went down, "Then when its all over, you act like I don't exist. All because you didn't score." Her pinky went down. "Last but not least you show up here acting like you didn't behave like a womanizing bastard on behalf of your equally piece of shit friend. Well do you see whats left?" She made sure he got the point by sticking her middle finger in his face. "This is all I got to say to you."

His eyes opened wide, he tried to appease her anger. "It's true the only reason it began was because I desired you. Then that changed Kagome, I care for you. If you would just give me a chance to prove it. And despite what you both believe Yusuke loves Sango."

"Go to hell!" She turned giving him her back.

He grabbed her hand, "Please, I merely ask for a chance. I have no control over Yusuke's actions. I can only apologize for my own. Will you at least consider going out with me this friday?"

"If you think I'm going to their wedding you are out of your fucking mind."

"They aren't getting married." At her suprised look he continued. "They split up. No she doesn't know about Sango. They agreed to split up for mutual reasons. I don't know the detail nor do I want to. It is Yusuke's affair. Will you please consider going out to dinner with me this friday evening? Think about it. I'll call tomorrow for your answer."

He left her standing there.


Kagome opened the door to the bedroom. Sango was staring at the wall, "What did he want?"

"To see how you were doing." Kagome scolded her for not finishing her dinner.

"What else did he want? I heard yelling." Sango saw the blush spread across her face. "Spill it."

"He apologized for his behavior and asked me to have dinner with him this friday."

"Isn't the wedding this friday?" Sango asked.

"No, for some reason they broke up. He just assured me that it wasn't because of you. Keiko doesn't know about you two yet." Kagome assured her.

"I see. Are you going to go?"

"Of course not."

"Why not? You're being childish."

Kagome turned on her, "What? Put yourself in my shoes, would you go out with him if you were me?"

"YES! You have feelings for him, how are you ever going to find out if he returns them if you don't at least give it a chance? You were always so quick to forgive Inuyasha and he did worse. Why not give Kurama a chance? You have a chance at being happy, why not take it. Some of us aren't that lucky." Sango felt the tears roll down her cheeks.

"You're right. I'm sorry. Sango if Yusuke apologized would you take him back?"

"Yes," the answer took no thought.


Kurama called the next day to check up on Sango. Kagome answered the phone. "Hello."

"Hello Kagome, how are you?"

"I'm fine," She fiddled with the cord.

"How is Sango doing?"

"She's alive."

"Very well, now will you go out to dinner with me this friday?" He waited to hear her rejection.

"Yes."

"Um, okay. Can I pick you up at eight?" He asked.

"Sounds peachy." She hung up the phone on him. Just because she had accepted his invitation didn't mean she was going to make it easy on him.
