A Royal Pain

Kagome was taken to the healer by Lady Luna who had the girl follow her after the evening meal.

“Now our healer, Airi, is a very wise woman so do not prattle on with her about nonsense. Rin has done such many times. Airi of course knows how great and powerful my son is.’
“Rin seems to enjoy reminding people of this fact and is starting to sound like that awful little kappa demon. I believe that Sesshoumaru’s insistence that Rin should learn from that creature is most unfortunate since my son is not as brilliantly wonderful as those two seem to believe.’
“Airi is the most knowledgeable of human ailments although she mostly cares for the demons of this castle. We are going to find out if you are with child. If there is anything else you need she will be the one to inform you.’
“I know the slayer is with child and it seems to me that perhaps the monk should be kept busy since it is obvious that woman has had no reprieve from his attentions. Men can be so callous and ignorant at times. Women do indeed need a break between pregnancies. I do hope that your half demon is at least understanding of that fact.”

Kagome didn’t know what to say about that although she kind of did agree that Sango was having kids pretty darn fast. Thing was she and Miroku wanted a very large family just as she wanted one with Inuyasha.

Luna waited for the guards to open the doors to the healers. As Kagome followed behind Luna she couldn’t believe the size of the room. There were several beds, a few taken up by injured demon men who had either been in battle recently or just had one hell of a training day.

A beautiful fox demoness bowed to Luna and Kagome.

“Airi, this young girl needs to be seen to determine if she is with child. I leave her in your most capable hands.”

With that Luna departed and would have Banzan come fetch her when she was finished.

“Come here child, no need to be shy.”

Kagome followed Airi through a door to a room that had silk feather filled futons and throw pillows everywhere. It was much fancier than the other room and it had a nice smell to it since incense was being burned filling the room with the scent of some kind of wood.

“Now all I need for you to do my Lady is to lay down on one of the futons. You do have the scent of one who is with child, but this will determine if it is true as well as tell you the gender, temperament, and nature of your first born.”

Kagome did as Airi suggested and waited as stones were being placed around her and then Airi held a crystal above her that started to swing back and forth like a pendulum.

As the crystal spun around and around it soon started to glow and change color from clear to bright yellow than to green.

“It seems to be true. You are indeed going to have a boy child. Your child is indeed a hanyou and not a quarter breed so you are blessed in this. He does have quite a temper. You and your mate both have quite the temperament. You must argue less with your Lord husband and he with you. When Lord Inuyasha returns from the battle fields you must try your upmost to keep a calm nature about yourself for the child’s sake.’
“The blood of Inu No Tashio Togaou is strong in this family. You will most likely breed hanyous if you remain with your current mate.’
“Also your miko powers will be transferred to every child you bare. You must try to subdue that power if it will cause the demon side of your child harm. I will give you a potion that will allow you to keep your purification powers without transferring them over to your children. You will take it every night until the child is born.”

Kagome was relieved to hear the baby was a hanyou and not a quarter breed although it wouldn’t have mattered anyway since she would have loved this baby no matter what it was.

“Do you have any questions for me?”

Kagome had many questions, but they were of no real importance at this time.

“No I don’t, but thank you.”

Airi smiled and helped Kagome get up off the futon.

When she went out of the healer’s chambers Kagome was surprised to see Sango and Miroku waiting for her.

“So, what did they say?”

Kagome smiled.

“I am to have a boy. He will be a hanyou like his father and I am supposed to try to keep from losing my temper with Inuyasha although that may be difficult I will do my best.”

Sango and Miroku both sighed in relief. It was indeed good news although hanyous were still mistreated by demons and humans. However with Inuyasha being a Lord mated to Lord Sesshoumaru, Inuyasha’s children would be accepted.

Sango hugged her friend.

“We will be like sisters Kagome. It is such a blessing that we both are pregnant at the same time.”

Kagome smiled at Sango and felt much better now that she knew she would not have to stress about having quarter breed children.

Inuyasha and Sesshoumaru were surrounded by wolf, otter, lynx, and Inu guards as the dragon demons were corralled into the center. It was going to be at least a two day trip back to Sesshoumaru’s castle at the pace they were traveling.

After sending a messenger back to the castle, Sesshoumaru took note that the youngling dragon demons and the elders were getting tired. He would have to stop soon and they would make camp. They were about half way to his home.

Inuyasha suggested they could carry some of them on their backs, but Sesshoumaru was horrified by that whole idea. It was one thing for Inuyasha to carry Kagome on his back, but even that would have to be changed since Lords were not pack animals and Inuyasha would cease carrying people on his back.

“But Sesshoumaru we are almost there and we haven’t been walking that long.”

Sesshoumaru looked at his little brother and frowned.

“You will not carry anyone on your back Inuyasha. It would be unseemly and I am not concerned about how long it takes to get back home. We will walk a pace that these people can follow and we will not separate from the pack. I will give the order soon for us to set up camp.”

Inuyasha huffed.

“Well I think this is stupid. We are walking slowly enough that a damn turtle would pass us up. I think even the snails beat us to your home.”

Sesshoumaru chuckled a bit.

“You have not been in a large group like this before Inuyasha. You cannot just rush things and it is safer that we all travel in a slow pace.”

Inuyasha sighed.

“So when we get to camp are we going to have to set up everything again? I mean hell; we just put all that crap away.”

Sesshoumaru found a good spot to stop at that moment. There was a river for water and plenty of trees to hide under not that they needed to necessarily hide. With a group of demons this large a human would be a fool to try to confront them.

“We will not be setting up camp like before Inuyasha. You and I will be keeping watch with the guards throughout tonight. I doubt we will have trouble although there have been times before this that a fool has dared to attack.”

Koga caught up with Sesshoumaru and Inuyasha since his wolves had been in charge of watching the rear flanks.

“Seems like a nice spot to rest. Is there anything more you need of me since I will be patrolling the rear of this mob until sun up?”

Sesshoumaru couldn’t think of any reason why they would need the wolf.

“No.”

Koga waved with a smile.

“Smell ya later mutt face!”

Inuyasha shook his head.

“Can you believe the nerve of that idiot?”

Sesshoumaru smirked.

“It seems that Koga enjoys pushing his boundaries with you Inuyasha. Still, it is rare for one to have friends and since you are not in my position you may indulge yourself with as many as you please.”

Inuyasha liked that he could have as many friends as he wanted, but fact was Sesshoumaru deserved to have friends also.

“Don’t you want friends too Sesshoumaru?”

Sesshoumaru shook his head indicating he did not.

“I do not have the time or patience to deal with friends. I have allies who may act friendly, but that is just politics. I was born to be a Lord and my station in life is to rule over all these demons.”

Inuyasha snorted.

“Well you should make time for friends since without them your life would be boring.”

Sesshoumaru shrugged a bit.

“You are worried about my welfare? I am fine without friends Inuyasha and now that you are my mate my life will cease to be boring since with you around I could not ever be bored. You are a constant entertainment in my life.”

Inuyasha wasn’t certain if he was going to take that comment as an insult or not.

“Well we had better start our patrols Sess since I am probably never going to get you to socialize more than you do now. Someday though you will wish you had a good friend to talk to.”

Inuyasha walked to the West side of the camp as Sesshoumaru went to the East where they would patrol most of the night. Indeed it was going to be a long night for them both.
