Positive

Chapter Twenty-Seven

"Positive." Kagome sat down beside Sango. "What do you wanna do? Are you going to tell Yusuke?"

"Negative," Sango tried to make the small joke but Kagome didn't laugh. "We can't tell him or anyone else. You saw how happy she was. I won't interfere, I can't, please understand."

"But its just not you anymore Sango. Think of the baby. We can only keep this hidden for a few more months. You will start showing eventually and then what? Are we going to keep you in a closet your whole pregnancy? And after the baby is born what then? Are you going to keep the child hidden? Its something to think about."

"If any of them ask, if they found out we will just say they don't know the father. Simple as that." Sango didn't want Yusuke to find out. She'd make sure he didn't. "I'm hungry lets go get something to eat." They headed downstairs to get something.

Shizuru walked up the steps leading to the temple. She spotted just the person she wanted to see sleeping on the roof. The little demon turned to look at her as she approached. "Evening Hiei."

"Hn."

"Can I talk to you?" He jumped down in front of her, waiting for her to continue. She sighed, "I'm just going to say it. Either Kagome or Sango is pregnant. Did anything happen I should know about?"

His eyes widened at the news. "What makes you say that?"

"Cause Keiko and I ran into them leaving the pharmacy. Kagome had a test in her hands. I'm assuming it was for one of them." Hiei didn't answer her but ran off. "Hey, come back here."

He didn't stop until he was at the shrine. As luck would have it both girls were outside, eating a late lunch on a blanket. He only had to look at them to see which one it was. He wasn't suprised. He knew Kurama hadn't touched Kagome, so his guess had been the taijiya if either of them were. It was confirmed, he wondered if Yusuke knew. Probably not considering he was still planning on marrying Keiko. Hiei doubted the wedding would happen either way. Keiko was as smart as she looked if she didn't notice how Yusuke had changed. He'd even tried to pick a fight with the boy last week and all Yusuke had done was shrugged his shoulders.
Even Kurama was moody lately. Both were fools in his opinion, in front of him sat two women worthy of both men. Yet they had let them slip away. Hiei decided to keep an eye on Sango.

He headed back to the temple to find Shizuru standing in the same spot he'd left her. "Well?" She knew he'd went to see for himself.

"And if I tell you?" He asked.

"I won't say anything unless it is necessary."

"It's Sango." Thats all he said.

Shizuru didn't say anything else. She walked away heading back home. A sigh escaped her lips. For a minute she'd thought it had been Kagome. Which meant Kurama could have been the father. She'd seen the way the fox had looked at the girl. Shizuru thought maybe something had happened between those two. If it was Sango then it was probably for someone they didn't know. Maybe the guy she'd cried over at the fair about. She went to go meet Keiko, Yusuke and her brother again. The couple was coming over for dinner in a while.

They were already there when she got home. Kuzuma was being nosey as usual. "Hey sis, where'd you go? Dinner is almost done."

"Stopped by to talk to Hiei." She answered.

"Oh, really." He started picking on her. "You shouldn't get involved with him sis. He's way too short for you. He'd always have to be on top."

She slammed her fist over his head. "Shut up. No one asked you. I had something important to ask him."

"What? Is everything okay?" Keiko asked.

"Yeah, I just needed to ask him a question about Kagome and Sango." She heard the buzzer go off in the kitchen and went to get dinner out the oven.

The four sat down at the table and ate. Keiko tried to carry on a conversation but the only one talkative was Kuwabara. Who was she kidding Yusuke hardly talked to her anymore. He got more distant as everyday went by. She thought about confronting him about it, yet was scared. Something told her that when she did, it would be the end of them. She let a heavy sigh but enjoyed the rest of the meal.

As soon as dinner was done Yusuke excused himself and went for a walk. Keiko brought the subject back up to Shizuru. The three were sitting on the couch drinking a glass of tea. "So what did you have to ask Hiei?"

"Oh, I guess its okay if I tell you. Remember that night at the fair?" At her nod she continued. "Well from what I know Sango had a serious boyfriend that had recently died. I saw Kagome with a pregnancy test today. So I asked Hiei if he knew which one was pregnant, it was Sango. I feel sorry for the girl to be honest. To be pregnant all alone."

"That is sad." Keiko changed the subject.

Kurama was walking home a week later, Yusuke walked beside him. They were about to take a left to lead them to the fox's house when he spotted Kagome. She was walking with a little boy carrying a bag.

Kagome felt someone watching her and turned to find penetrating green eyes looking her way. Her heart stopped in her chest. Seeing him caused pain to rise in her chest. At seeing Yusuke anger flared instantly.

Kurama had been about to walk over and speak to her when he felt the anger coming from her. Yusuke felt it to and took a step back. She didn't stop walking but kept on coming their way. As she brushed past she spoke clearly for both to hear. "Bastard."

Both turned to watch her back. "Okay, maybe its a good thing I didn't say hi." Kurama sighed. He missed her, strange but he did. She was always on his mind. He no longer thought about getting her in bed, he just longed for her company.

"Why don't you just tell her how you feel?" Yusuke asked him.

"Like you have room to talk. I'm not about to marry someone when I'm hopelessly in love with another." Kurama layed into him. "Are you being fair? Do you think Keiko wants you to settle for her? Do you think you are going to be able to make her happy when you are so miserable you are making the people around you miserable too?"

"Maybe you should both grow up." Hiei appeared behind them. "The girl should have purified both your asses for being stupid."

Yusuke walked off he didn't need to hear any more. Kurama was right, he wasn't being fair to Keiko by staying with her. It was time they talked.

Yusuke found Keiko in the park, she was sitting on a swing. Seeing her there reminded him of the first time he'd kissed Sango. It felt like a lifetime ago. He sat down beside her, "Hey Keiko."

"Yusuke we need to talk." She didn't want to do it but she felt she had to. "I need to say this before I lose my nerve. You've changed. It started when you first came back from the Makai. I told myself I could love the new you as much as I did before. The problem is I don't. I'm sorry, we've finally grown apart. It was a good thing the wedding was interupted or we would have made a very big mistake. I'll always love you, you are my best friend but I think we should cancel the wedding and go our seperate ways." That said she waited for his reply. She'd been thinking about it for the last few days, she knew it was for the best. Hell she wasn't even that upset about it. That should tell her something.

He didn't say anything. He'd been all set to break up with her. Then she just dumped him. Relief filled him but he wouldn't let it show. " I understand."

"Friends?" At his nod she hugged him. She looked over his shoulder to see Sango staring at them.

Sango had left to take a walk. Kagome had left earlier to go shopping with Souta. So she'd taken the chance to get some fresh air and some thinking time. She soon found herself at the park where'd she first kissed Yusuke. The last thing she'd expected was to walk up to find them embracing. Keiko waved at her and called her over.

Doubt assualted her, if she ran off Keiko would wonder why. So she had to at least walk over there no matter how much it pained her. A lump was sitting in her throat making it hard to breath. "Hello." She stopped in front of them. Keiko smiled at her while Yusuke turned his head not looking at her.

Keiko saw his reaction. Naturally she assumed he was upset because they'd just split up. "Don't be an ass Yusuke. You can at least say hello."

"Why bother? I'm leaving, I've got nothing to say." He turned around to walk off. He didn't need to see her right now. He wanted to grab her and kiss her. He'd been tempted to right in front of Keiko. So he'd been rude, so he could leave.

Sango felt the lump rise and tried to focus on what Keiko was saying. Her vision began to swim and spots appeared before her eyes. "I gotta go Keiko, I don't feel so good."

Keiko saw the girl start to sway. Panic filled her as Sango started to fall to the ground. She caught her in time, "Yusuke." He turned to see Keiko holding the girl.

"What the hell happened?" He ran over to them.

"I don't know, she just said she didn't feel well then she fainted."

He grabbed the girl by her shoulder planning to throw her over his shoulder. Keiko slapped him on the back. "Don't you dare carry her like that."

"Why the hell not?" What was the difference?

"You might hurt the baby."
