Chapter Twenty-Five
Kimi could hear fighting as Socks rounded the mountain bend. Sure enough not far from her; Kuroyama was about to kill the man she loved. She didn't know how to stop him, she had to say something. Climbing off Socks she walked within hearing distance, "I wish nothing but to ask you your name." There that would get his attention.
His head turned as did everyone else's. He let the wolf demon drop at his feet, "Suki."
Kagome saw her daughter standing next to the ridge, she'd came just in time to save Kouga. Even from this distance she could tell the girl held her arm and was in great pain. The barrier was still up so they wouldn't be able to get to her. Inuyasha struck the barrier once again causing it to tear but not wide enough for them to get through. They stopped when Kimi spoke loud enough for everyone to hear. Kouga was trying to get to his feet but his arms and legs wouldn't obey him.
"No, I am not your Suki. She is dead and will remain so." She saw him scowl preparing to approach her. "You are a fool, for blaming others for her death. I may be her reincarnation but we are different. I saw her memories and her feelings. Her last night alive she informed the village elder that if you were to ask she'd be leaving with you." Kimi hung her head knowing he had a right to know everything. "She loved you. Her only regret was not telling you when she had the chance. I am not Suki, I am Kimi. My mother always told me to be true to myself and my heart. I don't love you, I love Kouga; I'm sorry." Tears began to stream down her face. "But if you must blame someone then blame HER." She pointed towards the pixie still holding the barrier keeping her family at bay.
The pixie began to hiss and screech but Kimi continued, "Didn't you ever find it strange that the very next day after you decided to claim her, she ended up dead. Stop and remember who you informed of your decision." His head turned to confront Linaya.
She hissed and turned to her master. "Master she's lying, I would never do anything to harm you."
"Spare us the lies you little bitch," Kimi took a step forward. "My little nap showed me everything. I watched myself die but this time I saw WHO killed me. You were there and seeing that the demons you'd sent had failed to do the job you took matters in your own hands. You killed her and he has been blaming every one else for what you did."
Lin could see the anger filling her Lord's eyes and knew he was putting it all together. She tried to explain, "Master, please you must listen. I couldn't lose you. I became most distraught when you informed me that she would become your mate. You'd always had your whores but they meant nothing to you. I panicked when I realised the human meant more to you than I did. I had to get rid of her." She saw his shoulders begin to shake with rage and knew that she would soon meet her end.
"You took her from me, why? I trusted you. You had served me for over a century so there was no reason for you to fear being replaced. You jealous little bitch."
Linaya saw the human girl out the corner of her eye. The whore was smiling, she wouldn't let the little human win. If her master was to kill her for the girl's death then she would make sure to kill the girl once more. She started chanting, 'She will die.'
Sesshomaru watched as the little bitch started chanting eyeing the girl. She's going to attack her and neither of the two on that side seemed aware of the fact. "Kouga, the girl is in danger. Get up."
Kouga tried to stand, he had sensed the danger but his legs still wouldn't support his weight. "Kimi move," he yelled and she turned to meet his eyes. She looked deep into his blue eyes, thrilled that he had indeed came for her. Her heart jumped when she saw the love shining in his eyes. He loved her even if he didn't know it yet.
Lin finished her spell and hurled it at the human wench. "Die you pathetic human." She watched as her spell soared across the remaining feet straight at the girl. Kimi saw it coming but had no where to go but forwards and back. The cliff was behind her back, it was either jump to her death or stand and wait for it to hit her.
Kuroyama had been standing there facing the facts that had been there all along. He had been betrayed by the one person he'd trusted. After he exiled himself he'd kept her by his side believing she was the one person that understood his loss. Of course she had, she had caused the loss. Thoughts of killing her crossed his mind and he knew even that wouldn't bring his Suki back. She was forever lost to him. "Die you pathetic human," he felt a spear of magic spin past his ear. 'No,' he ran across to stand in front of the girl. The girl who had come back to tell him the truth and the one thing his heart had always longed to hear. His Suki had loved him but this girl loved another. He felt the spell hit him squarely in the back with enough force to send him crashing into her; sending them both over the edge. Her scream pierced his ear as they began their ascent to the bottom. He felt the magic tearing threw his body trying to make its way to its original target. He had failed his love but would not let this girl die once again at the hands of Lin. He concentrated all his energy to keeping the spell contained inside his own body.
Kimi felt him crash into her and her feet leaving the ground. Air whipped around her as she descending towards her death over thousand feet below. 'Well the fall isn't going to kill me and the ground is going to break my fall.' She heard the demon holding her arms try to speak. 'He's dying, he gave up his life trying to save me. Not like it matters I'm going to die soon.'
"Grab ahold of me, I'll try to slow the fall for as long as I can." He felt her arms grab ahold of his waist. He focused his energy into bringing his wings forth out of his back. His intent had been to change to his full form but he was too weak. A few more minutes and he'd be dead. His wings caught the air current causing them to glide as they fell. 'Gotta find somewhere soft to land.' He spotted the river that flowed at the base of the mountain. There he tried to direct himself over there feeling her still clinging to him for dear life. "We should land in the river but the rest is up to you." He gave her a quick hug, "Thank you."
She heard him and felt his grip loosen and knew he was dead. But they were still falling and the spell contained inside him was begining to seep out. The water was under her feet and she let go of him saying goodbye. The cold water rushed over her feeling like a thousand little needles poking her. The current was strong as it propelled her further down stream. 'I can't keep this up. Gotta do something or I'm going to drown.' A fallen log was about five feet from her and she forced her stiff limbs to make their way over. The going was slow due to having a broken arm. After ten minutes of struggling she caught ahold of one of the limbs and pulled herself onto the tree. She felt sleep over come her and closed her eyes. The last thought that occured to her was, 'Will he come for me?'
Kouga crawled to the edge of the cliff hoping to catch a glimpse of her but saw nothing. He hadn't been able to do anything as she fell to her death. Sesshomaru and the others watched in horror as Kuroyama took the blast meant for Kimi sending them both over. Only seconds passed then the barrier fell. The little pixie was on her knees sobbing, "Master, you would rather die with her than be alone with me."
"This Sesshomaru will only ask you this once. What are the chances of the girl surviving?"
"None, even though my master took the full force of it. His body and hers will have been devoured by the time they reach the bottom. There will be nothing left of them. He chose to die with her why? Kill me, there is nothing left for me now." Sesshomaru didn't have time to comply. A blast of lightning tore across the ground striking the pixie tearing her apart. Kouga was on his knees near the cliff, the Goraishi, could be seen.
Kagome fell to her knees believing her daughter to be dead. Tears began to stream down her face and Inuyasha bent down to hold her. "Kagome, I'm so sorry." She cried into his shoulder.
Michiko watched her mother cry into her lover's arms and turned to Kouga. He was looking out into the distance, also crying. Sesshomaru tried to put an arm around her to comfort her. She shook her head no. Should she tell them what she felt? Would they even believe her or call it wishful thinking? She ran to Kouga and placed her arms around him. She knew that he loved her sister it was clear for them all to see. "Kouga, listen to me. Kimi wouldn't want you to tear yourself up. You came for her, she knew you loved her."
He pushed the girl away, "Get away from me. Don't you understand she's gone. Doesn't matter if I came because I hadn't been able to save her. I can't live without her." He stood up and began to walk back down the mountain.
