I Know

Chapter Twenty-Six: I Know

“Have you made up your speech yet? You should be proud you know, you get to speak in front of us all.” Botan took a fry out of the foam box and munched. She was glad it’d been Sango selected instead of someone else. She was the smartest person in their class so it was no wonder she’d been selected as valedictorian. “Well Naraku is coming to watch Yusuke but we discussed going out to dinner after the ceremony. Now if I can get the nerve to ask him about prom. Have you two got invites yet? What am I saying? Of course you two don’t need an invite, it’s a given that you’ll be going with your boyfriends.”

“Hiei hasn’t said much about going. When I made a mention of it he commented about not being caught dead in a penguin suit. I might end up stagging it, unless I can convince Sango to go with me.” Kagome swallowed the greasy piece of potato. Her stomach swirled in protest and she concentrated on the list in front of her. “Do we have enough ribbon? I want it to go around the entire table, and there will be twenty all together so lets add another spool of it.” If she puked again she’d be tempted to throw herself out of the window. It was the last thing she needed in front of both girls. Sango was already giving her a strange look.

“No, I have no idea what to say besides ‘Don’t fuck up your life.’ I need to sit down soon and figure something out but I have no idea where to begin. And no, we haven’t discussed the prom yet I’m afraid. I guess we are going together, he hasn’t said we weren’t.” From the way he acted sometimes it gave her hope that he was serious about her. Talking about convincing her to go on a trip with him this summer. A small getaway before he starts college. He was looking into getting a business degree at the local college. She had been happy to learn he wouldn’t be moving away to higher his education. She wasn’t ready to lose him just yet. She couldn’t imagine being without him now.

“That doesn’t mean anything. He could be antisocial like Hiei.” Kagome put the french fry down and reached for the hamburger. The first bite was loaded with grease, yummy. It melted in her mouth making her forget about the slight yucky feeling. She was hoping to talk Hiei into joining her into attending the prom. It only happened once and she’d like to go with him. She’d picked out her dress already and wanted him to see her in it. Even by the time the event came she still shouldn’t be showing. From her guess she wouldn’t be quite three months then. The book she read said most women got the slight little pouch by the fourth month. Which meant there was a chance she’d be showing signs of pregnancy by the time graduation came.

Sango chewed on the chicken strip as Kagome stuffed more of the fattening sandwich into her mouth. “That’s disgusting, you know those things are pure fat.” Her chicken wasn’t the best quality of meat but wasn’t dripping from not being cooked all the way. It sure wasn’t as good as the dinner Kurama had made this week. Were the guys still at Onigumo’s? This Saturday night was meant to be a girl’s night out, with no males. She glanced towards her phone seeing she had a text message. It had to be from the fox, she’d check it later. Maybe sneak in a few minutes to give him a call.

“How often does he do that?” Kagome spoke around a wad of food seeing her friend eyeing the phone. It had beeped twice already indicating a message. Her phone was silent right now, Hiei wouldn’t contact her until she called him. Was the fox that hung up? Had to be if he was constantly keeping in contact with the girl. She’d never known him to act so smitten.

“What? He’s probably just asking how my evening is going and asking me to call him if I get a chance. Don’t act like you don’t have the urge to call Hiei. I can see it all over your face. You’re with him more than I’m with Kurama so I don’t want to hear it. The only one that has room to talk is Botan.” Sango turned to the blue haired girl. “So how is that going anyways? Think he’s the one?”

“He’s been busy lately and so we haven’t been able to do anything if that is what you are asking. But to answer the important question. I think he’s the one.” She clapped her hands together and sighed deeply. “I mean when Koenma did kiss me it was pleasant. When Naraku kisses me I feel it all the way down to my toes. My hips flare with heat and my panties end up soaked. Was that too much info? Sorry, but I was just being honest. I think I do want to go that far. We just haven’t had a chance yet but if that time comes I don’t think I’ll hesitate.”

“Really? Not scared of being split in two?” Sango chuckled as the chipper face turned stark white. “Guess you didn’t think about that. I feel sorry for you, honestly I do. Hope he knows how to be gentle or you’ll be walking funny for the rest of your life. Better hope he stays with you too or no other man will do you any good. He’s going to stretch you like a old pair of panties.”

“That’s rude Sango.” Kagome swatted at her playfully. “You know there is exercises she can do to get it back into shape. She’ll just have to go without sex for a few years. Or it will be like throwing a hotdog down a hallway. Whoosh! Wow, baby are you done already? I mean Hiei is a nice size but I don’t think he holds a candle to Naraku or his pain in the ass brother.” She blushed at the mention of Yusuke. She didn’t want to think about what he might be packing. It wasn’t right to think of it while she was with Hiei. She knew she loved him and didn’t want to think of being with anyone else.

“And how do you know about Yusuke? You’ve been checking out the size of his pecker?” Sango narrowed her eyes at the miko. Was something going on that she should know about? Besides the vomiting and the skipped period? Kagome might think she was pulling a fast one but Sango noticed these things. Almost every morning the other girl was rushing into the bathroom. Plus, having her own period due in ten days she’d gone in there to check how many feminine napkins were left thinking Kagome might have used the rest. Low and behold the miko hadn’t touched the pack. Someone had skipped their period.

“I have not thank you. Just one day when he sat down with me at lunch I noticed it through the pants he was wearing. It wasn’t hard so I’m assuming it would be once it was. Add in the fact who’s brother he is and Bingo!” She took Botan’s favorite line and stuck her tongue out. Kagome wouldn’t admit to thinking about just how large it had been while on soft. It meant admitting exactly how she’d examined the details of it. So what if she were curious. “Anyways, I don’t think I can eat anymore.”

The shrill of the phone surrounded them. Sango giggled seeing Botan jump up to answer it. With a quick smile the girl raced out of the room. Had to be Naraku. They wouldn’t say anything since they hadn’t had much time to be together lately. Besides she wanted to say something to the miko. “Sure you shouldn’t eat more? I mean it is greasy and will give you pimples but in your condition you need to eat. What is that old saying? Oh yeah, ‘You’re eating for two now.’ So, you might want to at least finish the fries.”

Her stomach lurched at the words. Kagome wanted to crawl under the bed as Sango gave her a knowing look. What the hell could she say to that? Should she lie and deny it? Or ask Sango what the hell she was implying. Okay, it was obvious what she was getting at. Dammit, she’d hoped to tell Hiei first before anyone else found out. With the way he’d reacted when she’d brought it up as a joke she wasn’t sure if she could tell him. He might never talk to her again. She knew he wouldn’t want it and she didn’t think she could bring herself to have an abortion. It was part of Hiei and herself, she kind of wanted it. It meant dealing with what she had to during the assignment but wouldn’t it be worth it if it meant having a piece of Hiei that she could love unconditionally? “Keh, what do you mean?”

“Don’t act coy, you live with me remember. I’m referring to you getting up in the mornings and bringing up dinner. I’ve eaten my mom’s cooking all my life and it’s not that bad. Add in I know what comes into this house and our bathrooms. You have not purchased any new tampons or pads and you sure the hell haven’t used mine. Which means you didn’t have a need for them. I’ve had my period since you’ve had your last one. Mine will be due in ten days and you’ve yet to have yours. So please tell me that I’m imagining things. Because if I’m not then you are pregnant. If I’m guessing right you have to be around seven or eight weeks now. So fess up, I want the truth.”

“Has anyone ever told you that you are too smart for your own good? Or mine in this case. Too damn nosey too.” Kagome crossed her arms. She was thankful Botan had left the room already. Like she needed another friend worrying over her and trying to tell her what she should do. “Fine, you’re right I am. I’ve already taken the test and it came out positive. Please don’t wait for me to break down and cry all over your shoulder. It’s not going to happen. I know I need to tell Hiei but I’m not sure how. I mean we never discussed using protection. Every time we slept together it wasn’t planned and I guess we just didn’t think about it. I know I wasn’t. I can’t change it and I don’t want to get rid of it. I’ve thought about that already and I’m thinking about keeping it.”

“Oh Kagome,” She reached out to place a hand on the miko’s shoulder. Sango couldn’t bring herself to chastise or scold. Hadn’t her and Kurama gone without protection every time as well also? Not once had they used something to prevent against the same possibility. Perhaps it was time she thought about it or she’d end up like Kagome. Now wasn’t the time to think of that. Kagome might not want a shoulder to cry on but she did need support. “Well, you’ll have to tell Hiei soon. Most women start showing between four and five months. You are kind of small and so is Hiei so you might be safe for some time but you’ll have to tell him eventually. He might not take it that bad, it is his. He seems to care about you. And if you decide to keep the child and raise it then I’ll be with you. No matter what he decides he wants I’ll stick by you.”

“Thanks, I think I needed to hear that. I’ve been worried about what to do. He hasn’t noticed anything yet. I mean didn’t Kurama notice it when you two had to go some days without doing anything? Or did you sleep together during that time?” Kagome made a face at the thought. Hiei hadn’t noticed the fact that not a week had gone by between their sexual activities. Most men might have figured it out by now. Wait, don’t we take a week off while she menstruates.

“That’s disgusting and no we did not. I told him he had to keep it in his pants and he knew what I was referring to without me having to spell it out for him. Well, Hiei is bound to notice something when you accidently spew chunks on him. How bad is your morning sickness anyways? Is it just in the mornings when I hear you singing to the porcelain?” Sango reached for her drink and hoped she’d never have to experience that kind of sickness. She hated to vomit and to do it everyday would be torture.
