Alive

Chapter Twenty-Five

Kagome watched in horror as the whole castle collapsed to the ground. When the dust cleared there was nothing left but debris. "No," She ran to the pile of stone and threw herself down. "No, its not fair." Tears fell down her face. Sango couldn't be gone, she had to be okay.

Hiei walked up to pile of rubble, there was one way to know for sure. He tore off the headband and let his jagan open. Kurama stepped behind him, he knew what the little demon was looking for. Any sign of life within the stone. Everyone held their breath as he searched. Yusuke came to stand beside him. "Hiei are they alive?"

The demon let his shoulders sag. "I sense no life."

Kagome let the sobs wrack her body. "No, its not fair. If it wasn't for Sango we'd all be dead. She can't die. It's not right."

Yusuke fell to his knees beside the miko.

Sango pulled Keiko's hand as the stones started falling around them. The earth was trembling beneath their feet. Sango knew there was no way for them to make it to the top before they were buried alive. They entered another room and Sango swore, "Another dead end."

Keiko shouted at her, "Whats that?"

Sango looked in the corner where the girl was pointing. The wall had collapsed to reveal a tunnel, a dirt tunnel but a way out. "Come on." They headed into the tunnel as the room collasped behind them. The tunnel was sealed as soon as they entered. They hit the ground from the impact.

After several minutes, they rose to their feet. Sango leaned against the wall. "Remind me never to do that again."

"Yeah, me too. Thanks Sango." Keiko knew she owed her life to the girl. "Do you know where we are?"

Sango looked around, she'd seen this type of tunnel before. "Nope, but I've seen this type of tunnel before. Come we can get out."
They walked for about twenty minutes down the long tunnel. Sango was ready to get out and get some fresh air. They walked into a small room. A small boy was digging and looked up when they entered.

The small boy smiled at Sango, "You're back!"

"Not really. Could you tell us how to get out?" Sango was relieved to see the boy actually. As long as his father didn't show up.

"Sure its not that far from here. Follow me." He waved to them to follow, which they did gladly. A few minutes later they spotted the exit. They thanked the little boy and walked into the open field.

They collapsed onto the grass. Sango tried to wipe the dust off her face. She was bruised, dirty and feeling guilty. The girl had smiled at her with such concern and trust. Sango decided that no matter what happened she wouldn't pursue Yusuke. She didn't want to hurt the girl.

Hiei watched as Touya tried to console the detective while Kurama was busy holding the miko. He sighed wishing things had turned out differently. He turned his head to look behind him not being able to watch the detective cry. His jagan flew open and he laughed outloud. "I'll be damned."

Everyone turned to glare at him. Hiei continued to laugh. Kurama sent him a look which made him laugh harder. "Stop your tears you two. Thats one hell of a woman you have there Yurameshi. Come on lets go fetch them."

Kagome jumped to her feet and ran after the little fire demon. He'd said them which meant both were alive.

Sango felt like going to sleep for days on end. It had been one hell of a day. Keiko was still sitting beside her and started talking to her. "Why did that one guy run?"

Sango ran her fingers through her hair which was mostly out of her ponytail. "My bad hair day?" She pulled the ribbon out letting the rest of her hair down. Dust fell on her shoulders. "Great."

"We both need a bath I think." Keiko looked around. "Do you think Yusuke will come look for us?"

"Don't worry I'm sure he'll find you." It hurt her to say the words.

"You're right. He'll come for us. Hiei should be able to find us." Keiko smiled when the small demon appeared not far away. "See told you so."

Sango looked up to see Hiei walking towards them. Yusuke came running from behind him. Keiko saw him and got to her feet. Sango made herself stay put. He wasn't hers. No matter how much she wanted to run into his arms, she had no right. Keiko ran into his arms and he embraced her. The girl sighed and guessed she should be happy. 'Okay so I'm an idiot. I risked my life to save the life of my rival in love.'

Kagome was next to enter the clearing. She spotted her friend sitting down, "Sango." She ran over and hugged the girl. "I thought you were dead. Don't ever do something like that again. I know I have a few grey hairs now." Sango returned the embrace. Tears slid down her face. She knew Kagome cried because she was happy to see her. Her tears fell for a different reason, it was time for her to say goodbye once again.

The others arrived. Jin smiled when he saw both girls alive if a little dirty. "Hmph. That is one hell of a woman."

Keiko held onto him. He hadn't said anything, she looked up into his face. He was just looking down at her. She reached up and kissed him on his mouth. Everyone watched as the girl kissed the detective, a couple days ago it wouldn't have shocked them. A few days ago the boy didn't have a mate. Not to mention his mate was sitting not too far away getting a front row seat.

Sango turned her eyes away and spoke to Kurama. "Contact Koenma please, we are done here and I wish to go home."
