~*~Chapter 26—Hide and Seek Part 2~*~


“What do you mean she’s not with you!? Sango told me she went with you to treat that child! Are you saying she’s lying?” Inuyasha yells at Kaede, not caring for bad manners.

Kaede is at a loss. She did not know of Kagome’s plans to go home and never knew the lie Sango cooked up for Inuyasha. So she just stared mutely at the taijiya as the hanyou exploded.

“Sango! Where the fuck is Kagome!?”

Sango started twiddling her thumbs.

“I-uh, she—“

“What, dammit! Tell me what happened to her!” Inuyasha now growls, obviously in a panic.

‘She can be in danger or God knows what else! Stupid bitch,’

“Now, Inuyasha. Don’t overreact. Wait for Sango’s explanation first, will you?” The ever-calm houshi advised the hanyou.

“Overreact!? My mate’s out there somewhere in God knows where and I’m here sitting on my ass not protecting her! What if she’s caught or worse!?” Inuyasha continued to rail at them.

“She’s fine okay! She’s not off to ‘God knows where’! I’m sure of this or I wouldn’t have let her go,” Sango tried to reassure the hanyou.

“Then where is she?” Inuyasha asked as several possibilities flew in his mind.

‘Could it be… no, she wouldn’t have. She’d better not or I’ll…’

“Did she go to that wimpy wolf!? Or did that Kouga get her? I swear I’m going to tear that faggot from limb to limb when I…” Inuyasha cut off as he raced outside the hut to the direction of Kouga’s cave.

Sango hurriedly sprang to her feet and went after him, almost tripping on her yukata in her haste. Good thing Kirara’s there…

“Inuyasha! No, she didn’t go to Kouga’s! She didn’t leave you either… well, she did, but not for anyone else! She went home!” Sango shouted to the fast-moving hanyou, knowing he would hear her.

He suddenly stopped in mid-leap and pushed his foff off the tree to change directions.

“Why didn’t she tell me, for the love of Gods!? I would have gone with her. And why did you lie, Sango?”

“Gomen ne, Inuyasha. I just had to help Kagome-chan. She knew you wouldn’t have permitted her to go home on her own, so she sneaked away,”

‘What if she didn’t come back? What if she’s planning on staying away? Fuck!’ Inuyasha continually thought in his mind until he couldn’t think anymore. He focused all his attention on getting to the well and to his mate.

As they passed the hut, Sango yelled for help.

“Houshi-sama! Tasukete kureru!”

Kagome, Souta and Mrs. Higurashi finally went home. A message by the answering machine is left for them saying Jii-chan’s staying overnight at his friend’s house. It just might be as well, who knows what he’ll do when he learns that his granddaughter is bearing a demon child…

Kagome went straight to her room and extracted the small package from the shopping bags. She’s getting ready to go to the bathroom and use it when her mom knocked on her door.

“Kagome?”

“Come in, Mom,”

Mrs. Higurashi walks in and sees her daughter sitting down on her bed, clutching the test in her hands.

“Are you still getting ready to use that, dear?”

Kagome laughs nervously.

“Hai, Mama. My fingers are shaking so much,”

“It’s okay, baby. Mama’s here. Come on, let’s go,” Mrs. Higurashi said as she helped her daughter up and guided her to the bathroom.

“B-but Mama!” Kagome protested.

“No buts, Kagome. Besides, I won’t go inside the bath with you. I’ll wait outside the shower curtain,” Mrs. Higurashi winked at her daughter to reassure her somehow.

She ushered Kagome inside the bath and closed the door behind her. Then she started pacing back and forth in front of the door in her nervousness.

Finally, Kagome went out, a dazed expression still on her face.

“Well, baby?” Mrs. Higurashi asked with bated breath.

Kagome handed her mother the small plastic and Mrs. Higurashi glanced down on it.
Two blue lines appear clearly.

“It seems I’m going to have a baby,” Kagome said, still in a daze.

Mrs. Higurashi hugged her in excitement, yelling

“Congratulations! Inuyasha’s going to be a father!”

And exactly the thoughts of the would-be father’s wrath made the would-be mother cringe…

Inuyasha finally reached the well, with Sango and Miroku ridon Kon Kirara following right behind him. The two hit the ground just as Inuyasha screeched on a stop. The reason is standing right before the well.

“Get the Hell out of my way, Fluffy. Or else,” Inuyasha said menacingly as he his hand went for the Tetsusaiga’s hilt.

“You are not going after your mate, hanyou,” Sesshomaru told him.

“You can’t fucking stop me!” Inuyasha growled as he made a leap towards the well.

Sessomaru blocked him.

“I had a… request to keep you here, Inuyasha. I’m given permission to use force to subdue you. ou’rou’re not going anywhere,” Sesshomaru said calmly.

“Who gave you that shit!? And when did you bother with fucking requests anyway?” Inuyasha tries again but Sesshomaru pushes him back. Sango and Miroku now block him too.

“Don’t tell me she told you to fight me too!? Give me a break,” Inuyasha said in frustration.

Sango nodded guiltily.

“She doesn’t want you to follow just yet, Inuyasha. She just has to… do something in her time to make sure. She’ll be back tomorrow afternoon,”

“The hell with that! What does she need to make sure of anyway? Is she sick? That’s it, I’m gone,”

“Hiraikotsu!”

Inuyasha had to flip backwards to evade Sango’s attack, then before he could recover, Sesshomaru is right in front of his face and holds him by his throat.

“What the fuck are you doing, ‘Nii-san?! I thought we’re okay now!”

“We are. It just so happened that my little sister-in-law asked for me to do this. Don’t struggle too hard, Inuyasha. I might hurt you,” Sesshomaru warned as he lifted Inuyasha up.

“Get those poison hands of yours away from me! I have to go, can’t you see? She needs me,” Inuyasha now pleads with his whole company while struggling to be free of Sesshomaru.

Fluffy slams him back to a tree in retaliation while calling to Miroku.

“Houshi,” Sesshomaru said over his shoulder.

Miroku nods while cautiously moving close to Inuyasha and putting a ward on his chest. The hanyou suddenly found he couldn’t move at all…

“Oi, Miroku! Get this shit away from me!”

“Hush, Inuyasha. And stop worrying about your mate. I do believe Kagome-sama would have asked you to go with her if she really needed you,” Mirouku wisely advised.

“And Kagome-chan’s not sick either, Inuyasha. So you can stop worrying about it either,” Sango added.

The hanyou now slumps in defeat, knowing he can’t do anything. Sesshomaru stands back up to his full height and addresses the two humans.

“Go back now to the hut, and take care of Rin for me. I’ll go watch over my brother,” Sesshomaru ordered. The two had no choice but to obey.

“Oi! Don’t leave me with Fluffy here!” Inuyasha yelled at the top of his lungs.

“Doushite, hanyou? Afraid I might hurt you?” Sesshomaru asked dryly.

“No, that you’d rape me,” Inuyasha replied sarcastically.

“Watch it, Inuyasha. I’m this close to hitting you while you can’t hit back,” Sesshomaru warned him coldly, watching him through slit-golden eyes.

“Gomen, ‘Nii-san,” Inuyasha mumbled. Sesshomaru nods.

“Get some rest. Before you know it, your woman will be tiring you out again tomorrow,” Sesshomaru told him before disappearing into the foliage.

Inuyasha’s whole focus is on the well, as though staring at it would bring his mate back.

‘Please come back, Kagome. Return here with me,’ Inuyasha pleaded silently in his head, hoping his words would reach his mate before closing his eyes to sleep…

Kagome couldn’t sleep at the very same time. She knew she should be tired after the the excitement she got in that one day. And tomorrow, they’ll leave early to see the doctor…

But thoughts of her impending pregnancy kept her awake. That, and the thought of her hanyou.

‘Will he be angry? I know he will when he finds out I’ve run away from him. But still…’ Kagome thought as she worried her lower lip with her teeth.

‘I know it isn’t part of our plans. After all, I was the one who even suggested the concept of birth control to him. And he even thought I was taking all those round pills. But I just can’t. Whenever I think of my having his child—it fills me with so much warmth and contentment, knowing I made something with him. That I’ll always have a part of him in that way. Even if and when he goes with Kikyou to Hell, I’ll have our baby to care for and love as I loved him—even more so. And whenever I picture in my mind what our child would look like… he would always appear like his father. If we’re going to have a girl, well then, I suppose I’d like her to look a little bit like me. A miniature Kagome and Inuyasha… if we’re lucky enough. For now, having our baby is all that matters. I just wish their dad would still be there to at least see them born…’ Kagome thinks with a trickle of dread and trepidation in her bones.

She puts both hands to her still flat stomach, as though embracing the child within her.

“I wonder how your father will take the news,” Kagome said with a smile, as though talking to their child before falling into a dreamless slumber…
