Chapter 25 Unions and Reunions

Chapter 25 Unions and Reunions
Kagome slowly woke from a deep sleep feeling the fog as it lifted from her mind. Looking around she found herself in Sesshomaru’s bed; she smiled as she recalled the events of the previous night. After traveling uneventfully for the last three days they had finally made it home, Sesshomaru having grown tired of the slow pace had summoned Ah-Un for the children and summoned his youkai cloud for them. When they had reached the palace somewhere before dawn she had been so exhausted she could not bring herself to walk the few paces to the doors connecting their rooms and had instead joined him in his large futon.
She let the feelings of love and warmth wash over her as she remembered how he had held her when they collapsed into slumber. She also felt a nudge of irritation in knowing that she would not be able to love him or the children freely until that bastard Naraku was dead. She let her feet hit the floor as she pulled the covers back, first things first she was going to take a bath and enjoy it! Her skin crawled at the thought that she still smelled like the evil hanyou who had held her captive. Sliding the screen back she walked into her own room and grabbed everything she needed, gripping up the towel hung on the hook by her door she let herself out onto the terrace that held the warmth she was craving. She stripped the Haori that Sesshomaru had slipped on her and stepped into the hot springs. Letting the water slide over her she sank up to her nose. Taking one last breath she slipped completely under water and stayed there for a moment. Thoughts raced through her mind one by one as she slowly surfaced once again, tears began to well when she thought of how Naraku had seemed to try to devour her with his hands and eyes. No she would not think on it, she refused to allow herself to cower in fear of him. The next time they battled he would find she was not so easily beaten this time around. Letting out a heavy sigh she closed her eyes and rested against the side of the springs, this really was heavenly to her aching muscles.
She smelled him before she felt the water move and was hard pressed to keep the smile from her lips when he stealthily made his way to her. When she felt he was almost close enough to grab her she opened her eyes and let the different colored orbs fall upon one of the most beautiful sights she had ever seen. Truly she would never get tired of gazing into such warm golden eyes. When she had first seen him she had thought that his eyes were the same color as his half brothers but now looking into them she realized how very different his were. They were more of a honey color next to Inuyasha’s yellowish gold, and like the substance they so resembled she couldn’t help but feel his heart was just as sweet. She didn’t move just gazed in wonder at the magnificent form before her and watched as his fingers made their way to her lips. She smiled when she felt the feather soft graze and instantly found herself surrounded by strong arms. “ Kami I thought I had lost you! I didn’t know what I was going to do, not just you but the children who have come to mean so much to me as well. It was like a hole had opened in my existence and I couldn’t fill it…I will never let you go! You mean too much to this humbled Sesshomaru before you, I will keep you with me always…Kagome koi please say you will be my mate and the Lady of the western lands. Say you will be a Mother to Rin and Shippo as well as my pups…please say yes.” Her heart skipped its beat as his words sunk in, she loved him, she loved the kits, and by Kami she wanted his pups! She felt her face heat as she thought of how they would go about making those pups, but she had to make sure Naraku was dead first. “Yes Sesshomaru I will be your mate, but give me just a little more time before we make it official please?” Seeing the trepidation in her gaze he pulled back a little assuming she was still afraid of being so intimate. He was a fool to not have guarded her better; if he had she would never have been through that. Smiling down at her he couldn’t help but thank the Kami’s that she was his. “ I will give you a fortnight on the time we announce it, and I will give you as much time as you need to overcome your fears. I will not take you until you are ready for me to do so.” She almost giggled when he said the last, oh if he only knew the dirty thoughts I have been having about him he would not say that! But maybe it was better he thought that was the reason she wanted time. She knew in her heart if he guessed the real reason was so she could sneak off and put an end to the demon whose existence she had cursed for so long he would never let her out of his sight. So she lowered her head and her pink cheeks to gaze at the steam instead.
His heart beat wildly against the soft cheek pressed to his chest, he could not believe he would be able to love the wonderful woman in his arms for the rest of his life. Without thinking he brought his head down to nuzzle her hair, this would be his mate, she would bear his pups. More important was that he loved her with every fiber of his being. He would never let her go, and no one would ever hurt her again.
Making her way to the training dojo Kagome stopped outside the room Inuyasha had been assigned. She heard him speaking to someone when she raised her fist to knock, laughter started and she heard a thump before the door opened to reveal Tasuki. His smile was so reminiscent of the man she loved she had to blink before she realized it was not Sesshomaru. “ I am sorry to interrupt but I came to ask Inuyasha to spar with me.” Smiling he stepped back to allow her entry into the room, once inside she saw him face down on the ground where his uncle had apparently left him. She heard laughter again behind her when Inuyasha lifted his head from the floor. “Trust me Kagome you did not interrupt my uncle was just leaving!” She could not stop the smile or the giggle that erupted at seeing him back to his old ways. “Is it just that you are afraid I will tell the young lady here the antics of your misspent youth dear nephew? I know you don’t want her to know about the time you chased your cousin…mmmmff!” Having Inuyasha’s hand covering his mouth kept him from finishing his statement but it did not keep the laughter from his eyes.
Kagome could only chuckle as she was pulled out the door and down the hall towards the training dojo. “You can slow down I don’t think he is following. It would have been interesting to hear the rest of that story though.” He stopped just inside the dojo when he faced her; puzzled she saw the serious look in his eye before he spoke. “ Kagome I need to know what happened to you. Why did my brother go into a rage when he saw Kotaru had you?” He watched the myriad of emotions cross her face before she adopted the same frozen visage that he had seen his brother with more than once. “ I will not speak of it yet.” He heard the quiet conviction in her voice when she walked towards her swords leaning in the corner. “ If you can best me in this friendly battle then maybe I will divulge it to you.” When she turned back around he saw the power that seemed to radiate from her aura and wash about her in waves. She would be a challenge for him but he was confident enough in what his brother taught him that he felt he had a chance in winning.
Grasping the hilt of his own sword he prepared himself for her attack. He knew it would come swiftly, his brother had told him how she had grown as proficient as Sesshomaru with a sword. One thing was for certain; to win this battle it would take everything he had. Squaring his shoulders he raised the Tessaiga and narrowed his eyes letting her make the first move, he would know what it was that the bastard Kotaru had done to her.
Kagome didn’t give Inuyasha the chance to attack before she was on him, swinging her first blade in and feigned a thrust while bringing her second blade in from the left. He barely had enough time to block with his arm shield before she was on him again. On and on they went back and forth not giving an inch; Inuyasha was beginning to feel the strain in his back and watched as Kagome’s visage never changed from the cold mask he was sure she had learned from his brother. “ When did you stop confiding in me Kagome? I thought that we could at least be close as siblings if nothing else. I want to know when something bothers you, I don’t want to be left in the dark.” He saw the mask crack and when he brought his sword around to twist hers from her hand was when he saw the twin tears making their way down her face. Dropping her other blade her knees hit the floor as the sobs began to wrack her slight frame, Inuyasha set his blade down and sank down beside her shaking form and wrapped his arms around her. He felt his heart crack at the sound of the pain filled cries that seem to come from her very soul. One thing was for sure, this Kotaru character was lucky he was dead because if he were standing in front of Inuyasha in this instant he would not have hesitated to break him into pieces.
After a little while Kagome sniffled and dried her eyes, pulling away from Inuyasha she let out a long sigh. “ You win Inuyasha I will tell you what happened. Slowly she stood and walked to the window, staring at nothing in particular she felt the ice surround her heart once again as she told her tale.
He had not moved from the training room floor while he listened to what that teme had done to Kagome, no wonder the red had tinged his brother’s eyes, if it had been him he would not have been able to keep his demon blood at bay when he saw Kotaru lay hands on her again. His heart hurt for her his most beloved friend; he wished he could erase away the pain. He stood up and walked over to where stood now silent. “Kagome you must know that it was not your fault, he would not have stopped… while I can’t take away your pain know that you are now the strongest woman I know because of what he did to you. You will overcome this and be your old self once more, just give your heart and spirit time to heal.” With this said he hugged her before he left the room, leaving Kagome awash in her thoughts.
