Chapter Twenty-Two


"Can I hold her?" Kagome asked.

"Sure but I'm sure Hiei would let you hold his snake." Tar grinned at Kagome's blush. They were on the roof courtesy of Hiei, who'd left a few minutes ago. "Careful of the scratch."

"Okay," Kagome picked the snake up. "Feels weird but smooth, she seems friendly."

"Yep. So what happened between you and Hiei last night? You two looked comfy this morning when I walked by."

"Uh, um. I. right. okay. Nothing." Kagome tried to change the subject. "So how did rooming with Yusuke go?"

"Nice try. Baby says you stink like Hiei. So what happened, tell me and I'll tell you."

"You go first and I don't stink like Hiei. We didn't do that."

"We did." Tar waited for Kagome's outburst.

"What? Are you serious? You slept with him?"

Tar told her everything that happened not leaving out any of the details, details made the story. "Now, I'm not sure what to do. So your turn."

"Okay. We didn't go all the way but he went down on me."

"Awesome, now I can ask you if he's good with his tongue." She laughed. "Come on Kagome, don't make that face. Mai would eat this up you know. After that bet we made, we end up being the ones doing naughty shit. At least you know Hiei kind of likes you, Yusuke can't stand me. Some pair we are."

Kagome knew exactly what she meant. "Yeah, we are the ones getting lucky and in the end Mai will be the one being happy. Yusuke acts like he can't stand being in the same room with you. I got the feeling Hiei is attracted to me but that is it. He doesn't strike me as the type to fall in love. Or to settle down for that matter."

"Well you will always have me Gome. Til the end, it's a promise."

"Thanks, same here." Kagome looked up into the sky. After returning home and having to say goodbye to her old friends she'd never imagined herself here. She had a new life, a new male interest, new friends, and a new best friend. Life was quickly getting complicated for her. Luckily Hiei had stopped last night, she didn't think she could have stopped him. She really hadn't wanted him to, it had been nice and new. "So what should we do?"

"You or me? I think you have it easier. You just need to decide if you are willing to take a chance of getting hurt. I'm fucked!"

"Well you were last night at least." Kagome giggled. "Did it hurt?"

"At first but then it was amazing. You know he was actually nice to me, even tender with me. Of course it was before reality came and gave him a hard bite on the ass."

"Are you going to tell Keiko?"

"Nope. I feel kind of guilty but I don't want to be a bitch either. It's their relationship, if he tells her fine but I won't be the one to mess it up." Tar heard yelling coming from inside the apartment. "From the sound of it, he might have just told her."


Yusuke tried to calm Keiko down. She was wanting to stay here while he was here. He knew Kurama wouldn't go for it, to say the least. It meant rearranging the sleeping situation again. Kurama nor Hiei would want to give up their chances with the two girls. If Keiko stayed one of the two men would be out of a bed or both without their women. Then again he could always tell Taree to sleep outside.

"Why can't I stay Yusuke? Kurama was more than willing to let me stay last night. I wanna stay with you," She stomped her foot.

Kagome and Taree walked inside the living room, Kagome smiled. "Sorry we were heading to the kitchen."

Taree heard her and sighed. It was obvious what the problem was. If Keiko stayed then they'd have to go back to there old sleeping arrangements which would interfere with the two couples. Yusuke knew it so did she, but if she gave up her spot in the room with Yusuke where would she sleep? The girl looked on the verge of tears so Tar spoke, "She can stay, I'll find somewhere to sleep. Kagome and Hiei can take our room, you two can share the couch. That way it works out for everyone." She left the two and walked into the kitchen.

Kurama and Hiei stared at her as she sat down at the table. Was the girl that soft hearted? It had to bother her, why would she offer to make it possible for Keiko to stay. "Where will you sleep Taree?" Kurama asked.

"If you have any spare blankets, I can just sleep in the kitchen. Hopefully, they won't get too loud. I'll be fine, I'm no stranger to the floor. I know you both want to share a room with Kagome and Mai, and they want to spend some time together." The snake slithered to wrap around her neck. "I'll have Baby with me."

"That is digusting." Hiei watched the serpant turn towards him, it's tongue flickering.

"She is not. Kagome likes her," She smirked. "Since you won't let her play with your snake."

Kagome kicked her under the table. "I can't believe you just said that."

"She is more thank welcome to it."

Kurama almost choked on his water, "Okay, we really didn't need to hear that Hiei." He wasn't sure who was the bigger fool, Hiei or Yusuke. He could hear the arguement still raging in the living room, okay Yusuke was the bigger idiot. He was trying to talk Keiko out of staying here with him. Why didn't the boy just admit that he wanted Tar to share his bed? Why deny the fact that he wanted the girl? Why continue with his sham of a relationship with Keiko? Surely after being with Tar he could see the difference between the two.

Mai had been asleep last night, so she hadn't heard the sounds coming out the other room. Kurama had heard it all, Yusuke had more than enjoyed himself. How could he not want to do it again?

"I'm going to take a nap. Kagome will you watch Baby for me?"

"Sure," Kagome took the snake from her. "This is a snake I don't mind holding."

Night came much too soon for Kagome and Taree. Kurama brought down some blankets and a pillow placing them on the table for the girl. Mai and Kurama left leaving the two girls alone at the table. Kagome was sipping on a cup of tea while Taree ate an apple. Neither wanted to go to bed yet.

Kagome was staying up for two reasons. The most important was because Hiei was waiting upstairs for her. She was delaying it for as long as she could. Then the second was for Tar. She knew Yusuke and Keiko were laying on the couch bed watching television. They knew she was still in the kitchen and would need to walk past them to go upstairs. So it stopped them from doing anything for now.

"You can go Kagome, you don't have to stay for me."

"Don't be silly, I'm finishing up my tea." Kagome smiled at her.

"You've been finishing your tea for the last hour. The cup must have a black hole in it. Go to bed, I'll be fine."

"Okay, I'll see you in the morning. If you need me, don't hesitate to come up."

"Yes mommy, have fun." Taree watched her leave, she suddenly envied her friend. Baby was sleeping in her lap, unaware of her new owner's inner turmoil. She suddenly wanted to kick herself for offering to sleep in here. She hadn't realized how good she could hear everything coming from the living room. If they did anything, she'd hear it unless she was passed out. Then again last night Yusuke had been pretty loud. If he moaned like that with her surely he was even louder with the woman he was in love with.
Disappointment and sorrow filled her when she heard the television go off.

A few minutes later, "Not now Keiko, the kitchen light is still on, she's still up."

Taree got up and fixed her pallet on the floor, Mai had gone to get her night light. She flicked it on, putting Baby in the box bed she'd made. She hit the switch and climbed under the covers. Silence filled the room for several minutes, she settled down waiting for sleep to claim her.

"Please Yusuke!"

'Bloody Hell.' She turned over and tried not to listen. The distinct sound of moving around could be heard. What sounded like a male moan was heard. 'Now I know how much last night meant to him. He'd probably imagined it was her, which would explain how he acted. I'm lucky he didn't actually call me Keiko.' Fuck this, she got up grabbing the top blanket. She'd sleep outside in the dark before she layed here and listened to him bone her.

She tiptoed to the laundry room located off the kitchen. The backdoor was located inside the small room. She had to feel for the lock, it was cold under her fingers. It squeeked as it slid open, she opened the door without making any noise. It shut quietly behind her. Once outside she looked around, the back light was on which she was thankful for. There was a small patio, yay two lawnchairs also. She hopped down in one, this would do for now.
