Can it really be?

24

Two days later they were
on the road again, travelling towards the old temple where Carmilla had found a
new nesting place, breeding vampires like they were flies on a hot pile of dung.
Cordelia's family and friends had provided them with the information they
needed. The problem was that the mountains where the old temple lay were harsh
terrain. They could only manage to get a few kilometres every day. D had to give
up his horse; it was not suitable for the journey into the mountains.

Every night they camped D
made love to Sango. She was knew it was something about his love making that
made her wonder, it was like he was desperate, like it was the last time they
ever were going to touch each other in that way. She asked him about it and he
just shrugged it off, like she was imagining things. But her gut feeling had
never been wrong before and it hurt her that he did not tell her what was
bothering him.

D admitted that Sango's
ability to sense things was remarkable, he was hiding something from her but he
did not attend to tell her. He hadg agg ago a vision of his ending and it was
not a very pleasant one. And he knew that his last moments on earth were moments
of fighting against Carmilla. And this could very well be his last journey.
Although he hated the fact that he had gotten his heart lost in it as well as he
had gained one. "And if she gets pregnant, I am leaving her alone to fight
for herself and our child."
He wanted to kill something, he hated the fact
and he wished that he could turn around and walk out from the mountains to
settle down with Sango, to create a family with her. But he couldn't, his fate
was to fight against vampires and he would die fighting them.

After six more days of
travelling Sango awoke during midday, and she awoke with a smile on her lips.
She was feeling more happy than she had ever had felt. It was like a bubble
ready to burst with stars and flowers. "Why am I feeling like this?" she
asked herself right before she got nauseas and rushed out of their bedding with
lightning speed.

D felt her leave his side
and the next second he heard a hurling sound. "What"¦ what?" he got up and
saw Sango on her knees with her head in a nearby bush. He ran over to her and
put his arms around her shoulders.

-

Sango, what is wrong? Are you sick? he asked very worried.

-

No, I just got ill for a moment, it is better now, she
whispered with rough voice. She had a pretty good clue to why, but she was not
ready to tell him anything, not just yet. "“ Can you please give me some water?

-

Of course, he said and hurried to obey her wishes.

He gave her the container
with water and she drank from it greedily. She gurgled the first couples of
times to wash out the foul taste in her mouth. She smiled weakly and rose to her
feet.

-

Thank you love, she said.

-

Sango, you are hiding something from me, he stated.

-

I am?

He nodded, trying to look
firm, but he got tackled to the ground and soon he had Sango straddling his
stomach. Her eyes, her face, her whole appearance seem to glow with an angelic
aura.

-

Well, I am not sure yet, but morning sickness usually is a
sign for something very special, said Sango with a conspiratorial smile.

-

What?

-

You do not have a clue?

-

No. What?

-

I would have thought that a man with your long life span
would have picked up information on how the female body works.

-

Sango could you please stop talking in riddles and tell me
what the hell you are talking about? he snarled and curled up his lips to show
off his fangs.

-

I think I might be pregnant"¦

-

P-pregnant?

-

Yes, pregnant, as in "“ you and I are going to have a baby,
smiled Sango.

-

A baby?

-

Are you not happy?

-

O-of course I am happy"¦ a baby?? he stuttered, not able to
quite process her words.

-

Yeah, we did it..

Sango crushed into
c
chest and sighed happily. She was beyond happy; she had thought she would go
through life without knowing her own child. Although, was it not a bit early for
morning sickness? Perhaps the dunpeal life made the pregnancy shorter. "Yeah,
that would be great."
She thought as she saw a mental image of her self
wobbling around heavy with his child.

D was happy as well, even
if his happiness was overshadowed by the fact that he probably never would see
the child. But he was happy, both for him and for Sango's sake. He would not
disappear from the world without a single trace of his existent.

-

Thank you Sango, he said with his face buried into her black
hair.

-

Thank you my love, it was you who gave her to me, said Sango
and sighed again.

-

Her?

-

Mmm, I am sure it will be a girl. A baby D-girl, giggled
Sango.

-

I trust your instincts love, said D and tried to cough away a
soft laugh.

-

You better, because I have never been wrong before.

They lay like that for a
few more minutes, just taking in the new information, the new life. He, half
living, half undead had been part of making life. He smiled, it felt good. No,
good was not word enough to describe the feeling that threatened to burst inside
his chest.

Sango heard the content
soft growling rising in his chest and she smiled. She looked at him and smiled.

-

So, how far are we from the temple? She asked.

-

My guess is three or four days.

-

D"¦ I am a bit worried. This is going to easy "“ if she is
spawning a hells army of vampires, shouldn't they be lurking around the
mountains to protect her?

-

I agree with Lady Sango D, this is going to easy, said Lefty
and spoke for the very first time in days.

-

Like we are walking right into a trap, said D and nodded.

-

What do we do?

-

Continue to travel. Carmilla must be destroyed so that we can
free those poor souls from their vampiric imprisonment.

Sango agreed and so did
Lefty. The face inside D's hand went back to his sleepy state as they got ready
to travel the last kilometres into the mountains.
