Sleeping Together
Chapter 22:
Kagome felt Sesshomaru stop outside her door. Kagome sat up and tried to stop crying.
(You can come in.) Sesshomaru stepped into the room and took in her tear streaked face, puffy nose and eyes. He walked over and sat on the bed with her.
“I’m sorry about running away from you like that. I’m just really emotional today.” Sesshomaru nodded.
“You are comfortable with me?” Kagome nodded wiping at her eyes. “You care for me?” Kagome nodded again. “Stay with me. Be with me.”
“I’m not leaving the palace anytime soon.” Sesshomaru shook his head.
“I don’t know what has been happening to me. It is like I need you to be near me. My soul cries out when you are not.” Kagome smiled and held out her hand. Sesshomaru placed his hand in hers and gripped it.
“I care a lot about you Sesshomaru. I think about you all the time. I like being with you and near you. I know that I feel safe around you and these feelings are never going to go away. Can you say the same?” Sesshomaru looked at her and then down at the floor. Kagome crawled over to him and laid her head on his shoulder. He wrapped his arm around her.
“My beast is telling me that he wants you and no other. He says that we are meant to be. I want you as well, but am unsure if this will last. You are human. You will not live forever.” Kagome smiled and looked up at him.
“That book that I got from you, the one about mikos, has some interesting information that you may find valuable.” Sesshomaru looked questioningly at her.
“According to that book, mikos who have their mark change after they mate a demon. They become demons themselves but still retain their miko powers.” Sesshomaru’s eyes grew bigger for a moment as he took in the information. His face then schooled back to his mask. He sat in silence taking in and processing the information. Kagome just rested her head once again on his shoulder and waited.
“After we mate, you will be demon.” Kagome snuggled into his shoulder in response. “How many mikos have gone through the transformation?”
“There was only one that was written in the book. She mated before she obtained her mark. After she got it she turned into a demon. She killed herself shortly after the transformation.” Sesshomaru stayed quiet for several minutes. Kagome began to drift to sleep against his shoulder.
“Kagome, stay with me tonight.” She snapped her head up and studied his face. His mask was down and she saw what he was always hiding. He was sad and longing for something. Kagome’s heart broke at the sight but she had to ask.
“Why?”
“I just want to be next to you.” Kagome smiled and nodded.
“Okay. I’ll stay with you tonight.” Sesshomaru swung her up into his arms and strode out of the room. He carried her down the hall to the last room. The doors were carved with dog demons in their true forms. Sesshomaru kicked the door open. Kagome looked around. The room was done in the family colors: White and black with red and navy blue accents. There was a painting on one of the walls. It had two demons in it. They seemed to be a couple. The man looked a lot like Sesshomaru including the stripes and crescent moon. Sesshomaru placed her on her feet in front of the picture.
“My parents. I’ll send Mika in to help you dress.” He turned and left the room. Kagome walked around a little, getting a feel for the room. It smelled heavily of Sesshomaru. Kagome felt more at home in this room than anywhere else in the palace. It made her feel uncomfortable to know that she was so safe in this room. She felt that it didn’t matter what happened and she would always be safe with Sesshomaru. Kagome wasn’t ready to commit the rest of her life to him yet.
Mika entered the room and brought a sleeping kimono with her. She helped Kagome dress for bed and took her kimono with her when she left. A few minutes latter Sesshomaru entered the room again. He was wearing a sleeping kimono as well. It was strange for Kagome to see him in anything but his usual attire. Sesshomaru walked up to her and held out his hand. She looked at it for a moment before taking his hand. Sesshomaru led her to the bed and sat down on it.
“I’m not going to pressure you Kagome.” Kagome shook her head.
“It’s okay. I want to.” Kagome sat on the edge of the bed with him. He put his arm around her. She leaned up against him and closed her eyes. After a few minutes Kagome was asleep. Sesshomaru chuckled and laid her down on the bed. He crawled in behind her and wrapped his arm around her waist. Kagome snuggled back into him. A few minutes latter Sesshomaru was asleep.
Kagome stirred and snuggled deeper into her warmth. She felt the sun coming through the window and didn’t want to get up. Sesshomaru tightened his arm around her. A knock came at the door and Sesshomaru was wide awake instantly. Sitting up he looked down at Kagome. She started to stir and opened her eyes.
“Good morning Kagome. Stay in bed, I have things that need to be taken care of.” Sesshomaru got out of bed and opened the door. Mika came into the room and bowed.
“I’m sorry for disturbing you this early. There is a guest here for Lady Kagome. They are waiting in the audience chamber.” Kagome sat up and thought for a moment.
“All of my friends are already here. I know no one else in this era so who could it be?” Kagome slid out of bed and reached for a robe.
“A priestess is here for you but would not give me her name my lady.” Kagome froze and stared wide eyed at Mika. After a moment she straightened, her face hard.
“Mika, help me dress please. I require a priestess kimono in Sesshomaru’s colors. Bring them here.” Mika bowed and left the room. Kagome turned toward Sesshomaru and smiled bitterly. “I do not know who this could be.” Sesshomaru nodded and strode into his closet.
Mika came back with the requested clothing and Kagome was dressed as quickly as possible. Sesshomaru came out of the closet with his usual attire on and swords hanging from his sash. Kagome motioned Mika back and closed her eyes. She let her energy build around her. Then she concentrated her energy at her back and right hand. She felt her ebony bow form under her fingertips and her quiver settle on her back. Kagome opened her eyes and nodded toward Sesshomaru.
“Mika, Please inform Inuyasha, Sango, Miroku and Shippo that they need to be in the courtyard.” Mika bowed and scuttled out of the room. Kagome walked up to Sesshomaru and laid her head on his chest. His armor shifted.
“Your armor is not on properly. Put your arms up please.” Sesshomaru raised his arms slightly. Kagome tightened each strap for the chest plate. Kagome placed her hands on the armor and they both glowed blue for a moment. Sesshomaru raised his brow at her setting his hands on her shoulders.
“It’s for spiritual powers. Just in case really.” Sesshomaru nodded. Kagome grabbed his hand and led him out of the room. Once out of the room Sesshomaru took the lead and Kagome followed one step behind. They paused just outside the audience chamber. Kagome smiled up at Sesshomaru before steeling her features. Kagome stepped into the room and looked at the woman standing in the room.
“Who are you?” The woman turned around and looked at Kagome.
“Hello. It’s been a long time Kagome.”
Kagome felt Sesshomaru stop outside her door. Kagome sat up and tried to stop crying.
