Reunions
Chapter Twenty-Three
"Yusuke!" Keiko ran out the cave and launched herself in his arms. His arms tightened around her, holding her close. "I knew you'd come for me."
Kagome smiled at the two, it was good to see them together. She wasn't sure if Rin still had her crush on Yusuke or not. The next reunion caused her heart to shatter.
The small girl came out, "Kuzuma." She ran across the distance and threw herself in his arms.
Kagome had to lower her head when she saw the look on his face and his arms go around her. No matter what had happened between them earlier it hadn't changed anything. The look of love and adoration had crossed his face. Her heart twisted as the image refused to leave her mind. Once more she was having to watch the man she loved hold the woman he wanted. The realization didn't stun her, she'd known it was coming. One thing she was always sure of and that was her heart. She was happy that they'd been able to find the girls but it saddened her at the same time.
She could never wish harm on an innocent person, it wasn't the girl's fault. She'd known about the girl from the start. If anything was to blame it was her foolish heart that seemed to set it's sight on the unattainable. Tears sprank in her eyes as the girl stood on her tiptoes and placed a kiss on his mouth. It seemed to shock everyone that watched.
"If we are done with the reunions, I think we need to have a talk. I'm assuming you are after Kanna after all." Kouga looked over at Kagome and lifted an eyebrow. He was positive it was the big guy's scent lingering on her yet the other female had just kissed him. The man hadn't pulled away from it either, he'd accepted it. He saw the hurt cross Kagome's face, he was more than happy to help her forget him.
"Yeah I guess we are now." Kagome tried to snap out of it, now wasn't the time. She kept her eyes of the couple and stared at Kouga instead. "Seems she is after Rin and I now."
"You do realize he will come for her when he realizes she is alive." Kouga looked over at the girl held tight against the fox's chest. "He will not be pleased with you fox."
"You speak as if I care."
"A friendly warning nothing more. I suggest we all get some sleep and discuss our plan of action in the morning." He crossed his arms over his chest.
"What makes you think we would willingly work with you?" Hiei sneered at him.
"Unless you know the location of Kanna's fortress, you have no choice but to." He smiled at the man's scowl. "Thought so. I will show you all where you can sleep, I'll give the couples their own private chambers."
Kagome tossed on the fur not being able to sleep, her mind too busy. Kouga had put her next to the cave with Rin and Youko. She'd been suprised to hear that he had claimed the girl. Did it mean he would stop pursuing her now? Hopefully it would, she didn't want to see Rin hurt. No need for anyone else to end up with a broken heart. She was sure the girl would get over her crush on Yusuke eventually. Also Rin was the type to take having a youkai mate seriously. After being raised by Sesshoumaru she had to know what it meant.
She needed to go for a walk and get some fresh air. Her heart clenched when she looked over to see Kuwabara walking into the cave that Yukina was in. Tears filled her eyes as she turned away. Her walk took her a few feet before she collided into a hard chest.
Her head snapped up to see Youko looking down at her with a confused look on his face. "Sorry, wasn't looking where I was going."
He looked down at her tears and the sad look in her eyes. Pity filled him at seeing her anguish. If he hadn't already changed his mind about trying to bed her, seeing her like this would have. "Do you feel for him that strongly?"
The question caught her off guard, was it that easy to see? The tears stung her eyes and rolled out on their own. She gasped when his arms went around her pulling her against his chest. At first the thought to pull out of them came to mind. But his touch wasn't sexual, he seemed to be trying to comfort her. Needing someone to cry on she returned the embrace and let the tears come. Soon her tears stopped and she quieted down. Neither noticed that they were being watched.
His hand grabbed her chin forcing her to look up at him, "Don't give up just yet."
She tried to smile, "Easier said then done." She eyed him warily. "You aren't being nice to try and get any are you? Cause you can forget it, ain't happening."
"No, I have taken Rin as my mate. I will seek no other."
"Oh okay. Why did you claim her?" She was curious.
"My reasons are my own." He would say no more, he released her chin. He smirked inwardly at her confused look. Should he tell her that even as he held her in his arms, his body had failed to respond to the soft curves?
She pulled back from him, "Fine, thanks but I'm going to head to bed. Need to put a ward up before Kouga gets any ideas." She heard his laughter as she walked away.
