Unwanted Protection


Kagome felt a lump form in her throat suddenly. Surely Hiei had to be kidding. She rather tear the jewel out herself and hand it over than this.

Botan ran up to her, as close as the barrier would allow. "Thank goodness, you are okay. I feared the worse there for a second. Koenma will be here shortly, seeing that we are all here."

Kagome said nothing she turned her head and buried it into the small man's neck. She couldn't bear to look at them, not now. She let the barrier fall and sighed. She closed her eyes, she suddenly felt very tired. Maybe she'd wake up and this will all be a dream. It would be her fifteenth birthday once more, none of this would have happened. She would still be pure, her heart intact. Not shattered into three pieces.

Hiei sensed it the moment she fell asleep. Botan continued to talk while the others stared at him. Koronue took a step forward, "As much as I'm sure you both are enjoying it, you can put her down."

"Go to hell, keep your jealousy to yourself. The girl is out cold and I'll put her down when I'm ready." He didn't know the history between the three and he didn't care. No one told him what to do. His arms tightened around the girl causing both men to glare at him.

"Stop it all of you. This isn't the time for petty bickering." Koenma showed up. "I think you all can now understand the seriousness of the situation. Yusuke, I need to ask if the girl can stay at your place for the time being. I will send Botan and Kurama to go speak to the girl's family and to collect some of her things. I want you three to head to Yusuke's and see that she gets there safely. I'm also going to insist on twenty-four hour protection."

"What the hell does that mean?" Yusuke asked.

"I mean I want someone by her side at all times. There are a few exceptions when she needs personal time but other than that someone will be with her. See to it. I'll be back to check up on you later."


Kagome woke up to find a strange man staring at her. He had short brown hair, he was kind of cute. "Sucking that will cause your teeth to stick out."

"Yes, well it hasn't in the last two centuries. So I think I'm safe thank you. How do you feel?" He asked.

"Like shit, thank you." She rolled over in the bed. "Where am I?"

"You are at Yusuke's. I have informed your family of the situation and they know how to reach you. You will be staying here until we know what we are dealing with. I have ordered someone to be with you at all times."

"NO." She sat up in the bed. She'd be damned if she stood in the same room with them for more than two minutes. "I don't want your protection, I won't accept it. I'm leaving, don't try to stop me."

"Fine but do you realize what will happen if they get their hands on the jewel?"

"I don't care," She raised her voice. "Let them have the damn thing. I'm sick in tired of it. For over the last two years of my life, there has been nothing but this jewel. I didn't ask for this. I don't want this. Why can't I have a normal life like everyone else? Why Me?"

"I can't answer that."

"Shut up!" She threw the pillow at him, it bounced off his chest. "Take it out. You can have it then, take it. Hide it somewhere they can't find it. I don't want to see it ever again." She placed her head on her knees and began to cry. "I want to be rid of it."

He sat on the bed next to her, he wasn't good at comforting someone but the girl needed it. He hugged her as she cried. "We can't do that. Its not like last time. This time the jewel is next to your heart. If we try to remove it, you will die."

"I don't care please." She really didn't want to die but she was so tired. He held her until she layed back down.

"Get some more sleep, I have to be going. Someone will be in to sit with you."

"You mean babysit me."

"Yes that."
