If This Is Heaven, It Sucks

Misfortune Followed Us Home ch.22

Kagome awakened with a terrible headache.  She groaned as she raised her palms to her forehead.

“What happened,” she thought.  The only thing she remembered was falling into water. She struggled to open her eyes but her body refused to cooperate.

“Did I drown?” she asked, as she thought out loud.  “If I have then heaven sucks.” She rubbed her eyes trying to force them open.  An amused huff startled her.  She bolted up turning her head in all directions trying to find where the sound came from.

“Hello,” she called out.  Silence stretched before her and she lay back down.  Having grown accustomed to not being able to see, Kagome began to notice more about her surroundings.  Gone was the cold, hard ground.  Now she felt the firm but yielding softness of a mattress.  She sheets she hadn’t noticed before felt cool and smooth.  Somewhere food was cooking, the scent awakening her senses.  Her stomach rumbled loudly.  The sound echoed in the empty space of the room she inhabited.  She sighed heavily as she slapped her hands against the sheets.

“I’m bored,” she groaned. “I’m bored and hungry.”  “Where was everyone,” she asked mentally as she sat up again.

“Hello,” she called out.  She sat for a few more minutes in silence before she finally heard footsteps grow increasingly close to her location.  She flinched at the sound of the door sliding on the track as it opened.  The heavy footsteps continued until they stopped right before her.  She gasped as a firm hand grasped her hair.  She immediately began to struggle but the hand would not let go.  Tears tracked her face as she struggled to free herself.  One sharp tug and she ceased all movement breathing heavily, tears still coursing down her face.

“Stop this foolishness.”

“Why are you doing this,” Kagome asked, but her question was met with silence.  “Sesshoumaru?”

“Be still.”

She sat still counting her breaths as she tried to relax her body.  “What was going on, why couldn’t she see, and where was she,” all of these thoughts swirled in her mind.  She jerked as heat filled her face, covering her eyes.

“Be still.”

As she relaxed she realized the heat was some type cloth.  The pungent scent of herbs drifted to her nose and soon she drifted off to sleep.

When next she awoke, Kagome bolted upright in bed.  It seemed the rest of her memories returned and she gasped as she remembered the feeling of his fangs sinking into her skin.  She blushed as she recalled the feeling of his warm tongue passing over her flesh, coaxing out her life blood. Her breaths became labored and she flopped back down on the bed.  Something in Sesshoumaru had broken free, chased her.  He had said she must be his. Why? “Why me,” she thought as she looked at the ceiling. She bolted up again as she realized she could see.   The room was magnificent.  Cherry hardwood floors led to a tatami covered platform on which the bed lay.  The large bed she laid in was made of cherry wood.  A canopy, white silk curtains were tied at the four posts.  A turquoise blue cover was embroidered with pink flowers and laid on top of white silk sheets.  A large armoire rested against the wall, the front panel carved with the design of lotus flowers.  A vanity table lay next to the bed a small stool situated underneath.  Two doors led out of the room.  One to the right of where she was looked as though it led to the hallway, large, the panels was painted with the image of a flower covered meadow.  The other door, directly in front of her was a mystery.

Obviously Sesshoumaru had taken her to his home.  She attempted to stand, but her legs were numb for lying so long.  “How long have we been here,” she thought as she rubbed her legs trying to increase the circulation.  Soon the numb feeling went away and she stood and made her way to the hall door.  She was surprised when she tugged on the door and it refused to yield.  He had locked her in.  “How dare he,” she thought.  She paced in front of the door, her ire rising until she remembered the other door.  Racing over, she threw open the door and stormed through the opening.  Inside was an oasis like onsen.  Plush grass a vibrant green, sakura trees and Japanese maples dotted the area. Water lilies floated in the water as well as errant sakura petals.  The area was lovely and spoke only of peace and relaxation.  Kagome saw none of this as her eyes instantly locked on another door across the onsen.  She marched angrily across the field and pulled open the other door.  It led to another room much bigger and grander than the one she awoken in.  Deep mahogany furniture, navy and silver cloths, she saw these in a blur as she made her way to the large door painted with the image of an inu youkai rising into a moonlit sky.  She grasped the door with both hands and pulled it open.  She sighed in relief but before she could leave it slammed shut.  Frantically she pulled on the handle her aura rising and crackling in her fury. She looked up to see a striped hand holding the door closed.  She gasped as she felt him behind her.  His body heat affecting her in ways she wasn’t quite sure she desired.  His breath tickled her ear and her own temperature rose.

“Where are you going?”
