Jino and Confrontations
Chapter 21:
Kagome didn’t see Inuyasha for the rest of the night and went to bed early. Kagome woke and dressed alone. She made it to Sesshomaru’s study and knocked.
“Enter.” Kagome entered the room and stood for a moment in awe. Inuyasha sat in the room with Sesshomaru. Inuyasha wasn’t wearing his fire-rat kimono. Instead he was dressed in a dark blue kimono with white accents identical to Sesshomaru’s. The obi was black and his sword was tucked in it. Sesshomaru looked up from a scroll and cocked an eyebrow.
“I’m just here to find a book. Don’t let me interrupt anything.”
Kagome went to the book case and started looking through titles. She found one that looked interesting and picked it up. The title read ‘Mating Rituals.’ Kagome blushed and opened the book and started flipping through it. There were mating practices of all different types of demons. Near the middle of the book were dog demons. Kagome stopped at read a few lines before snapping the book closed and placing it back on the shelve. She heard Sesshomaru and Inuyasha start talking behind her and tried to ignore them. She continued looking through the titles before settling on one to read: Inu Youkai. She settled into some pillows and opened the book. After the first few pages she was caught up in the story of Sesshomaru’s family.
Hours went by before she was snapped from her reading.
(Kagome.) Her head snapped up and looked right at Sesshomaru.
“Yes?” Inuyasha chuckled.
“Took you long enough. We’ve been calling your name for five minutes now.” Kagome glared at Inuyasha and turned her attention back to Sesshomaru.
“What did you need?”
“Inuyasha says that you can sing.” Kagome nodded. “I wish to hear you sing.” Kagome blushed and carefully closed the book and set it aside. She tried to think of a song to sing and none came to mind right away.
“I’m sorry. I can’t think of anything to sing right now.” Inuyasha laughed which made Kagome glare at him again.
“What about that one song you like to sing. I swear I could sing it I’ve heard it so many times.” Kagome took a deep breath and let it out slowly. She closed her eyes and concentrated on not making a fool of herself in front of Sesshomaru.
*When I was just a little girl,
My mama used to tuck me into bed,
And read me a story,
It always was about a princess in distress,
And how a guy would save her,
And end up with the glory,
I lie in bed and think about the person that I wanted to be,
Then one day I realized the fairy tail life wasn’t for me.*
Kagome slowly opened her eyes and looked up at Sesshomaru. He was sitting there just looking at her. There was no expression on his face.
(Well?)
(Amazing.) Kagome blushed and looked down at her hands.
“See, what did I tell you?” Inuyasha clapped his hands together and waited for a response from Sesshomaru.
“Yes, you did. She sings amazingly.” Kagome quickly opened her book and got lost in the story again.
The rest of the morning and afternoon pasted uneventfully. Sesshomaru requested lunch be brought to the study for the three of them. Kagome never put down her book and ate what was put in front of her with out thinking. Before she knew it Rin was at the door asking if they were going to attend supper in the dinning hall. Kagome rose gracefully from her seat and walked to the dinning hall with her nose still buried between the pages. As she entered the hall she bumped into someone, dropping her book.
“Oh, I’m so sorry.” Kagome bent and picked up her book before looking at the person she bumped into. Standing in front of her was a dragon demon. He was wearing a black kimono and black full body armor. He had green hair and deep green eyes.
“Watch where you’re going, ningen.” Kagome bowed and walked around him to the table. Kagome sat down and opened her book again, ignoring the rude demon. She heard Sesshomaru enter the room with Koga a few minutes latter and put the book down. Sesshomaru walked to the table and waited for everyone else to be seated.
“We have another lord with us; Lord Jino of the Southern Lands.” The dragon demon stood and bowed to Sesshomaru before sitting down again. “Jino, this is my daughter Rin, my intended Lady Kagome, her son-”
“Your intended is a ningen? Following in your father’s footsteps I see.” Kagome’s face flushed in anger. Sesshomaru continued on with introductions as if he hadn’t been interrupted.
“This is her son Shippo, my brother Inuyasha, Lord Koga, Sango the demon slayer, and Miroku the Monk.” Sesshomaru sat and servants began to serve the food.
“Not only have you fallen for a ningen, you let that filthy half-breed back into the palace. My, my Sesshomaru, how far you have fallen.” Jino stood from the table and left the dinning hall. Kagome looked to Sesshomaru and sighed.
(This is not going to work out very well, is it?) Sesshomaru shook his head. Kagome sighed and started to eat. The rest of dinner pasted without incident. Kagome and Sesshomaru went walking in the garden after dinner.
“Have you changed you mind?” Kagome looked up at Sesshomaru and smiled sweetly.
“No. I’ve been thinking about it a lot, but I haven’t changed my mind yet.” Sesshomaru stopped them beneath a cheery tree.
“I want you to be my mate.” Kagome laid her head against his chest.
“I know. It’s just not enough.” Sesshomaru wrapped his arms around her. He tilted her head up to look at her face.
“I care for you.” Kagome’s eye’s filled with tears.
“Do you love me?” Sesshomaru’s face turned to stone. Kagome let the tears start to fall. “I see. I have to go.” Kagome tried to pull away but Sesshomaru tightened his grip on her. She looked questioning at him. He lowered his mouth to hers and gently swept them together. Kagome looked up at him wide eyed.
(What are you doing?) Sesshomaru pulled away a little.
“You feel something for me. Your body craves mine.” Kagome turned her head away.
“Yes, I feel something for you. It’s not enough for me. I won’t put myself into a relationship that is only one sided.” Kagome pushed away from him and ran for the palace. She quickly made it to her room and collapsed on her bed crying.
