Chapter 22: A Second Chance Meeting

Kagome was frozen in place. He was a beautiful sight to behold.

Sesshomaru was in the middle of a practice area at the back of the shop, and was going through a set of complex kantas. He moved with fluid grace and precision, executing each move with an expert skill. He made the Kotou he had in hand sing. She walked forward slowly, so as to not distract him, and to get a better look.

The proprietor noticed her entrance and was about to walk over to her, when she caught his eye and shook her head slightly. He turned to look back at his only other customer. Normally he wouldn’t have allowed anyone to touch the antique sword that this gentleman had singing, but this man was no ordinary customer. His appreciation of a finely made sword was well known amongst collectors, that and his ability to wield them as if he were an ancient Samurai come to life. He sighed quietly in pleasure as the gentleman came to the end of his exercise.

Sesshomaru noticed the second that Kagome had stepped in the door, and when she became entranced in his movements. He smirked inwardly at the bemused expression on her face. He could smell her slight arousal from here. He slowed his movements and came to the end of his exercise. He placed the blade back into the sheath. It was a fine blade, and he was considering purchasing it. He glanced again at his mate. She started to walk toward him. She was poetry in motion, her hips swaying with each step she took forward, a beautiful smile on her face.

“That was wonderful.” She said quietly as she got closer to him.

He couldn’t help himself; he leaned down and captured her lips in a quick firm kiss. She tasted wonderful and he could taste her forever. He smirked at the spike in her arousal. He wrapped his free arm around her and turned them towards the proprietor.

He held the sword out to the proprietor in respect. “It is a beautiful sword, very well crafted.” He paused, waiting. Now was the part he normally enjoyed the best, the haggling. But he would pay, no questions, no haggling this time. The sword called to him, and he was going to heed the call.

The proprietor looked at the sword in his hands, and glanced back at the man in front of him. He looked at the beautiful woman held next to the man. He knew what he had to do.

He held the sword out in front of him and bowed. “I find that I am unable to sell you the sword; however I would be willing to trade.”

Sesshomaru was surprised to say the least. He glanced at Kagome; she was taking this in, but leaving the decision to him. He looked back at the proprietor who was still holding the blade out to him. He released Kagome to reach with both hands for the blade.

“Honorable Norito, what would you require to trade for this?”

“In my collection I have an Aikuchi of Flame. You are known to have the Aikuchi of Ice. I would like to unite the two daggers. Would this be an acceptable exchange?”

Sesshomaru flipped through his mental files regarding the aikuchi. They weren’t mystical items. They weren’t of youkai make; as a matter of fact they got their name from the two hilts. One was graced with diamonds and platinum, the other was made with rubies and red gold. They were the embodiment of cold and hot, not to mention finely made daggers.

It was an acceptable trade. He nodded.

“You honor me. Might I ask your full name, sir?” the proprietor asked.

“My name is Tasio, Sesshomaru Tasio. And this is my mate Kagome.” He introduced them both, wrapping his arm around her once more.

“Sess … Sesshomaru Tasio? Son of Lord Inu No Tasio?” the proprietor questioned, shocked. ‘Could he possibly be…?’

Sesshomaru tensed. “Yes, I am he. Why do you ask, sir?”

The proprietor bowed low. “Forgive me my Lord. I am Totosai, the maker of your other blade Tensaiga. How is the other fine blade my Lord?” he remained bowed.

“Totosai? You are still alive? You can stop bowing now. I heard a rumor several centuries ago that you had been killed. It is quite a concealing spell you have on, I was unable to recognize you.” He asked surprised.

He raised himself upright, and chuckled. “Ah yes, it was one of my better ideas. I had humans and demons searching me out to create blades like yours and Inu Yasha’s for many years. I tried to hide myself, but someone always seemed to find me. All I wanted was some peace, so I finally created the plan to have myself ‘killed’ by a customer in a fit of rage. Almost happened too, but I out smarted them and disappeared. No one from that era has survived, at least any but yourself that I have met. Does Inu Yasha still live?” he asked.

“As far as I am aware, none but I, Yasha, Koga the wolf, and Shippo the fox have survived. All others perished. There are some full demons left, but none as old as us, or you Totosai.” Sess glanced at his watch. “I hate to cut this reunion short, but there is somewhere we have to be.” He looked back at the old demon in front of him. “It is good to see you again. I will bring Inu Yasha around, as well as our blades and the Aikuchi of Ice. No one has touched either of our blades in a century or two, so I’m sure they could use your touch.”

“Hai. And if you would, please bring the Wolf and Fox, as well as your lovely mate. It would be nice to see you all again.” He chuckled. “That is, if you and your brother won’t destroy my shop.” He turned to Kagome and bowed low. “It is very nice to have met you my dear. The next time we meet, I will have a special blade made as a mating gift for you.”

Kagome smiled, enchanted. “Arigato, it was nice to meet you too Totosai. And I look forward to our next meeting.” She said as she bowed in respect.

* You didn’t have to bow you know. You are a higher class of demon to him. * Sakura informed her.

‘I know but he is older, and a friend to my mate, he deserves the respect.’ She responded.

“Come mate. We have to go. Totosai, until we meet again.” Sesshomaru said, nodding his head.

“Hai, until then” he returned, watching as the two left his store, and walked down the street. He walked over to the door and locked it, turning the sign over. He sighed as he walked to the back of his store to the back room.

He sat down as he waited for his pot of water to boil for his tea. “So strange that he would show up now, just when I had finally pulled that particular sword out of the back.” He said out loud to himself. “He was the original person whom that sword was created for.” He scratched his head. “Ah well, no use pondering over what the Kami’s have decided. I have to wonder about what type of blade I should make for the mate of the Lord of the Western Lands.”

And with that he made himself a pot of tea and sat down to sketch various designs and types of swords. None of them seemed to fit. He frowned, thinking about the curious woman at the Lords side. She seemed to have an inner light that shines very brightly. Almost like that one woman he had met once several centuries ago.

He started to reminisce. ‘She had been a miko to birth, very powerful and destined to be the protector of an equally powerful sacred object. She had fallen in love with a demon that loved her more than his own life as he gave it protecting her and the jewel from other demons. It was rumored that she hid the jewel in a shrine that he had built for her, and than passed away, never to reveal the hiding place.’

“I wonder what became of the object. Did it choose another protector? Does it even still exist? Never mind that!” he shook his head to clear it of the memories. “What type of blade should I forge for Kagome Tasio? She reminds me of that miko. Hmm …” he scratched his chin in thought. “I have an idea.” He muttered, as he started sketching quickly. He held up the finished sketch. “Perfect. Now, to get the one major item, I need a fang, a very special fang …”

Bad Phoenix! Another evil cliffie. I’m sure you can guess whose fang it is he wants.
