The Past To Hate

Chapter Twenty-Two

A yell woke everyone in the camp up. The sun was coming up over the horizon, dawn breaking in the day. Kouga was standing over Kagome who had woken up to find a glaring wolf demon. The young girl couldn't remember getting back into bed the night before. She had passed out, right after. A blush spread across her face remembering that part.

Kouga was screaming, "Who the fuck touched my Kagome?" He bent down. Sure enough she had been marked and she reeked of dog. 'Inuyasha!' He turned on the hanyou laying on the tree branch just now begining to open his eyes.

Leiko got up slowly. She was still tired and was debating if Kouga should get hurt. "What the fuck are you screaming about? I'm tired and your big mouth is waking everyone up dammit."

"Kagome, is what I'm talking about. She fucking stinks of dog. Someone claimed my fucking woman. I'm going to kill the fucking bastard. I can't believe this fucking shit."

"If I hear fuck come out of your mouth one more time, I'm going to purify your tongue off. Shut up, your embarassing the poor girl." Leiko walked over, bending down to comfort the girl. She could smell the tears, her embarassment was causing. "It's okay, Kagome. Wanna go for a walk with me?"

"Like hell she is." Inuyasha was storming over. He looked as pissed as Kouga. He stopped in front of the girls and glared down. He sniffed the air to make sure. Leiko was pushed aside as he bent down to pick the girl up by her arms. Leiko landed with a 'Umph' on her ass. He was holding the girl up trying to get her to look him in the eye, her face stayed down. "How could you let him touch you? Sesshomaru of all people. What about us? What about me? I thought we'd always be together. You were mine."

"Fuck you dogshit, she was mine."

Inuyasha let go of the girl, who stayed silent. He turned on Kouga. "I'm tired of you, wimpy wolf." He punched Kouga in the face, knocking him back.

Leiko felt the tears start to sting and pulled herself together. Of course Inuyasha didn't remember marking her. She'd seen his eyes go red and the markings appear on his cheeks. His youkai blood had taken over, for only a few seconds but it was enough. She had been marked, claimed and because of who he was he didn't remember. She had decided to cover up any signs of his scent on her. If he realized what he'd done while he had no control, he'd be very upset.

Kagome was standing there crying. Poor girl. Leiko got up from where she'd been casually tossed aside. "Come with me Kagome. They are both just upset cause they lost you to someone better." She propelled the girl away. Sango and Miroku went to try and break the two men apart.

They sat on a fallen log not far from the camp. Leiko held the girl while she cried, she herself felt like crying. Now, was not the time for her to express sorrow. "Its okay."

"What am I going to do? I betrayed Inuyasha with his brother."

"You did no such thing. Don't you ever think that. Listen no one can dictate how you feel, believe me." If she'd had her way, she would be in love with Sesshomaru not his idiot brother. "Do you care for Sesshomaru?"

"Yes."

"Do you love him?"

"I don't know, its confusing." Kagome looked up finally.

"Well, describe how he makes you feel."

"Nervous, whenever he's around I get this funny feeling in my stomach. I think about him. Lately I've been thinking about him a lot. I know I love Inuyasha but I feel something for Sesshomaru."

"I think you are in love with Sesshomaru but you love Inuyasha. There is a difference in both loves. You must be with the one that will make you happy. Above all you make sure you are happy. Sometimes in life you have to be selfish. The only one that can secure your happiness is you. If Inuyasha loves you and is truly your friend he will accept it if you wanna be with Sesshomaru."

"But Sesshomaru hates humans."

"Does he now." She laughed loud at that comment. "We both know that isn't true. He loves me, he loves Rin, and I believe he is in love with you."

"I don't know." Kagome sighed. It was all just too confusing. But she belonged to the cold Lord now. He sure wasn't cold last night. He'd made her feel things she'd never felt before. "What about Kouga?"

"I'm going to head back and give him a quick kick in the ass. One for his foul mouth and another for waking me up."

"Oh that reminds me, where did you go last night? Right before Sesshomaru took me from camp I noticed both you and Inuyasha were gone."

"Um, I went for a walk. Inuyasha came to fetch me." She felt bad for lying to the girl but she knew Inuyasha didn't want anyone to know.

"Oh, think we should head back?" Kagome stood up. "Can you do me a favor though? I know I usually ride with Inuyasha but can you perhaps carry me today at least. I know it will be asking a lot but I need some time alone."

"Okay, I guess I could."

They stepped back into camp, Inuyasha and Kouga was still cursing at each other while the others prepared to leave for the day. Kagome blushed when everyone looked at her. She started fidgeting under the scrutiny.

"Stop staring!" Leiko walked over to Sango. "As soon you two are ready we are leaving. If those two want to stand there and bicker then fine. Kagome will ride with me today."

"Right." Sango smacked Miroku who was giving Kagome as questionable look. "Stop."

The two men continued to bicker once again, not paying attention to everyone else. "This shit wouldn't have happened if you would have just stepped aside and let me take her." Kouga shoved Inuyasha once more.

"Hn... she didn't want you, she wanted me."

Sango nodded to Leiko after picking up Shippo and jumping on Kirara with the houshi. Leiko made sure Kagome had grabbed her bow. Soon they were off, Kagome once more in front of her. Neither girl spoke both lost in lost.


They traveled for a few hours. Kouga and Inuyasha were running down below keeping up with those in the sky. Leiko stopped in midflight looking down. She could sense something menacing. An arrow soared through the air, heading straight for her and Kagome. She dodged out the way in time. Then another one was coming, her hand came out breaking it in two. Did that stupid bitch really think she was capable of killing them.

Sango called out, "Are you two okay? Where are they coming from?"

"Here come get Kagome." She dived and tossed the girl for Kirara to catch. Seeing Kagome no longer in danger she turned in time to stop another arrow. "What the hell is she doing?" Another came up to catch her in the chest.

"Leiko," Kagome screamed at seeing her hit by the arrow.

Leiko flew down to land near the dead priestess, landing on her knees on purpose. Kikyo stood there with her bow ready. "I see it will take more than one to bring you down."

"What makes you think you can kill me?" She reached up and grabbed the arrow. It disappeared under her touch. She stood up unharmed and very pissed. "Why did you attack us?" The dead woman only smiled. "I should destroy you."

Inuyasha and the others joined them. "Kikyo."

"Inuyasha, you are safe." She ran and threw her arms around him. "When I saw that thing making off with my reincarnation I feared the worst."

"They say you attacked them."

"I was trying to save the girl. I would never hurt Kagome."

"You lying sack of dirt. You meant to take both of us out." Leiko was beyond pissed. "I think you were aiming for Kagome and I just happened to make it convenient by being the one carrying her. I should kill you, regardless. Simply because you had the balls to try and attack me. I think you need to learn your place." Her hand began to glow.

"You aren't touching her." Inuyasha put himself between the two women. "I want let you hurt Kikyo. It was an honest mistake, she was trying to save Kagome."

"And you are a fool if you believe it. Then again you are a big idiot aren't you. You would protect her after everything she has done. Kagome has told me of Kikyo trying to kill her before yet you can't believe that she would try it again."

"Shut up, you don't know anything." Inuyasha drew Tetsusaiga, the fang formed in his hands. "I swear I'll kill you. I promised Kikyo I'd protect her."

"Why because she died. Because you feel guilty. You had nothing to do with her death. The only ones to blame are Kikyo and Naraku. You had nothing to do with it." Leiko stated.

"It was my fault, she died because of her love for me."

"Fool. Kikyo caused her own downfall, if anything she should feel guilty for bringing you down with her. She was the guardian of the jewel. She knew of those that would seek its power, human and youkai alike. She was no miko in training, she knew what she was doing. But against all logic she took in a bandit that was evil. She would have been able to sense his evil, yet she kept someone like that around. Knowing the jewel was close, under her care. She knew the risks yet took them. Her own stupidity caused her death. You didn't kill her, all you did was try to steal the jewel. Kikyo should blame herself and Naraku, the only thing you are guilty of is loving a selfish bitch."

"You're wrong, I owe Kikyo."

"Really, then what do you owe me?" Leiko didn't want to say it but it had to be said. "I died for you once. I wasn't tricked nor did I loose my faith in you causing in you to be pinned to a tree. I willingly gave my life for yours. If anyone has a right to be resentful it is me. You are willing to give up your life after I died to save it. Yet I come back all I want is for you to be happy and safe while Kikyo wants to drag you to hell when all this is over. I died alone because I loved you enough to want you to live. If Kikyo really loved you would she want you to die with her?" She picked Kagome off of Kirara. Before taking to the sky once more she left her warning. "You may want that bitch, but I will only state this once. Kagome shouldn't be the one to suffer because she is too cold to care about anyone besides herself. If I so much as think she is trying to harm Kagome, I will hunt her down and destroy her. If you try to stop me you will die too."

No one spoke, as they left. Kirara jumped back into the air and Kouga took off. He really didn't like the way that woman smelled. Inuyasha was left with Kikyo.

"You believe me don't you Inuyasha."

"Of course, don't worry she was just mad. She will get over it. Her and Kagome are close, she is just worried." Inuyasha stated. His eyes followed them until they could no longer be seen.

"What did she mean? She said she died for you once. Then how does she still live?"

"I don't want to talk about it now. I need to catch up with them before they get too far ahead."

"Wait," She leaned up and kissed him. Her tongue slid over his mouth seeking entrance.

He pushed her back. "I gotta go Kikyo." He ran off leaving her there.
