Chapter Twenty
The small creek ran slowly along its banks, flowing freely into a small pond. Her reflection could be seen as if looking into a mirror. Kimi looked at herself but it wasn't her. It was her face but she looked shorter somehow and her clothes were definitely something she would not wear. They resembled the ones she'd seen the old lady Kaede wearing on their first day to the feudal era. Birds were flying over head but they seemed out of place. No sound thats what was missing, the birds made no sound nor did the water as it rushed along the current. 'I'm dreaming,' she thought to herself. She was about to explore the area when someone began to appear before her. He came out of no where as if she had conjured him out of thin air.
"Who are you? What do you want?"
He didn't answer just made his way slowly to her. "Do you not remember me?"
"Hell No, am I suppose to?" She took a step back hoping to put some distance between them. He was actually kind of cute in a rugged looking way, in that Viggo kind of way. (Think Aragon) His long red hair blew behind, weird considering there was no wind. A growl began to drift her way and as far as she was concerned anyone growling at her wasn't a good sign. She took off not sure where she was going.
His first thought had been, 'Why didn't she remember him?' Then he remembered what Lin had told him, she had been reincarnated. He would force her soul to remember itself. A growl escaped his throat as he thought of how he'd lost her to begin with. He saw her take off when his growl reached her. He caught her pulling her roughly against his back, "You will not leave me again. You will remember, you will see who you once were." He placed his hands on each side of her head.
Kagome grabbed the tylenol out of her back and pulled out two of the pills. Michiko stood beside her and Kouga took up a spot beside Gercha. She wasn't sure what was wrong, she'd been told that her daughter was long in coming out the water. But she shouldn't have gotten a high fever in that short of time. Something was nagging at the back of her mind, she reached down to try to wake the girl up and felt it. A strange stirring just barely above the surface of her skin, "Do you feel that?"
Michiko wasn't sure what her mother was referring to. Gercha however did and sat down beside Lady Kagome. Extending her hands over the girl, the hair on her arms began to stand on end. "Magic, some sort of magic is being used. I have never felt anything like it before. I don't think you will be able to wake her."
"Then what the hell do we do?" This came from Kouga. He'd been standing back trying not to let his concern show. He felt his hair also begining to stand up, magic was starting to ooze from the girl. He was about to suggest they call for the medicine woman when she started to thrash around fighting off some unseen attackers. Her loud scream pierced the cave causing his ears to ring, "Nooooooooooo."
Kimi watched the scenery pass her eyes, it was like watching a movie from within her own body. She was watching the same demon that had confronted her, speaking and handing her a rose. Her hand reached out to accept it of their own accord. Then she knew she was watching her former life being played out. Images of the demon were everywhere along with mixed feelings swirling around her. No, it wasn't her. She fought against his hold, she didn't want to see anymore but he held firm. The image of death soon consumed her. People were being slaughtered all around her and she watched as she notched a bow trying to stop the demons charging her. She screamed as she actually felt something pierce her chest and heard herself screaming. 'I'm dying, someone help me.'
She was released and fell to the ground upon her knees, her hand flew to her chest to make sure there wasn't a hole where her heart should be. "Why would you show me that? You sick bastard."
"So you know who you are and to whom you belong." He bent down on one knee placing a hand under her chin forcing her to look up at him. She looked exactly the same to him, nothing had changed except her eyes. Instead of the pale brown they had once been they now shone a dark blue. Very vibrant, full of life, and he wanted her even more. He felt her face start to fade out in his hands. "Not yet," but her image started to disappear and he was left alone.
He woke up in his cave, chest heaving and sweat pouring down his face. "What the hell happened Lin? Why did you cut us off?"
"Sorry master, I held out as long as I could without harming the girl. See for yourself, " she stirred the image in the water giving him a view of the girl now laying in a pool of sweat. "Her body tempature was getting too high so I had to release her. Didn't think you wanted the girl harmed, my lord. Were you able to awaken her soul?"
Kagome was on the verge of hysterics when Kimi started thrashing about and screaming. She was saying something about not wanting to die and then nothing. A few minutes later her tempature started to drop and returned to normal. Gercha felt the girl's forehead, "Whatever magic was at work is gone. Kouga have someone fetch me some water so that we may clean her up and get her dressed."
Kouga stomped out leaving the three staring at his retreating back. "What crawled up his ass?" Michiko watched him walk away but she'd seen the anger in his eyes. He was probably still pissed about his people being attacked. She just shrugged her shoulders. And she was sure it didn't help with him knowing that her mother was now taken. She bent down on her knees and grabbed her sister's hand.
Kimi felt someone grab her hand and she tried to open her eyes, "Momma." Every one heard her whisper and ran to her side. They asked how she was feeling. "Okay, I guess but a little sore. Could use something for my headache though." She brought herself to a sitting position and downed the pills that were handed to her.
"Do you remember anything my lady? You seemed to be dreamin." Gercha asked as Kouga walked back in to deposit the water beside them.
She held her head down staring at her lap, "Nothing, I don't remember anything." But she did, she remembered everything. Her heart ached at the thought. She wasn't sure how she felt about the man from her past life. But there was no doubt how she felt about the wolf demon now standing over her. She couldn't bring herself to admit to them that yet another man wanted her because she looked liked their long lost first love.
Kimi sat upon her now favorite cliff and thought to herself. Earlier everyone had left so she could clean herself up and get some rest. After laying for an hour and not being able to sleep she decided to get up and get some fresh air. Minutes later she was sitting on her cliff over looking the valley once again lost in thought. Part of her wanted to run away, to go back to the well and leap through. If she was back in her own time then this Kuroyama guy had to stop looking for her right. To her it didn't matter if she was the reincarnation of some priestess he had wanted. That had been her former life, she was now Kimi and no one else. She would not fill someone else's place. When she ended up with a man it would be someone that would love her for herself, who she was now. Not because she was a reincarnation and not because she looked like someone else. She was second to no one! Finding that not only was Kouga's first love alive but her mother had been a crushing blow to her heart. She couldn't find it in herself to feel any resentment towards either one. It had all happened before she was born. Nor would she allow it to change who she was, to allow it would be untrue to herself. She would accept the fact and go on. Loving them both would give her the strength she needed.
Michiko had been walking around with her headset on softly humming to herself checking the local wolf boys out. She found some that weren't too bad on the eye but as soon as she started checking them out she'd start comparing them with that arrogant dog demon. She spotted her sister sitting on a cliff lost in thought. She plopped down beside her and sighed, "This place is kind of dull."
Kimi looked up at her and smiled, "Its not too bad. The demons here are kind of nice as long as they don't think of you as lunch."
"That is gross, you didn't have to go there." She took off her headset and placed it in her lap. "We need to livin this place up some I think. Wanna do a duet with me, I got the perfect song."
"You gotta be kidding me the last time I broke out in song you'd have thought I grew another head at the stares I got. Can't imagine if we both started yapping our gums." She leaned back on her hands letting the wind blow through her hair.
"Come on don't be a spoil sport, I'm not asking you to get up and start dancing." she remembered her little situation just a few days ago. She snapped an ear piece off the one side and placed the remaining ear with headset on top of Kimi's head. She leaned back on one hand, while the one holding her own piece flipped through to the song she wanted. She pulled Kimi to her feet and pressed play.
The girls began to dance as the music came on.
*Song is Invincible by Pat Benetar*
"This bloody road remains a mystery
This sudden darkness fills the air
What are we waiting for
Won't anybody help us
What are we waiting for
We cannot afford to be innocent
Stand up and face the enemy
Its a do or die situation
We will be invincible"
They started swinging an arm in the air.
"This shattered dream you cannot justify
We're gonna scream until we're satisfied
What are we running for
We've got the right to be angry
What are we running for
When theres nowhere we can run to anymore
We cannot afford to be innocent
Stand up and face the enemy
Its a do or die situation
We will be invincible
And with the power of conviction
There is no sacrafice
Its a do or die situation
We will be invincible"
"Wont anybody help us
What are we running for
When theres nowhere
Nowhere we can run to anymore
We cannot afford to be innocent
Stand up and face the enemy
Its a do or die situation
We will be invincible
And with the power of conviction there is no sacrafice
Its a do or die situation, we will be invincible"
Michiko threw her head up, "Yeah yeah, oh yeah yeah,
Stand up and face the enemy, yeah yeah,
Its a do or die situation
We will be invincible
We cannot afford to be innocent
Stand up and face the enemy
Its a do or die situation
We will be invincible."
They burst out in laughter, when they heard gasps and awes coming from all around them. Michiko thought to give them something else to watch. She bowed down as low as the earpiece would allow. "May I have the pleasure of this dance my lady."
Kimi knew what her sister was getting at, "I would be honored good sir." She placed her hand in her sisters and placed the other hand upon her shoulder and they began to dance.
Kagome had been sitting with Sesshomaru inside Kouga's den trying to figure out what to do. They thought the best thing would be to hunt down the demon and kill him. "Is there a way he could have found out about the jewel shard Kimi carries and hasn't realized the fact Michiko has the other?"
"Its possible he can sense one and not the other. Either way we will have to keep a close watch on the girl." Inuyasha grabbed her hand trying to reassure her that her daughter would be safe.
"What is that noise?" Sesshomaru commented when he heard the girl's start singing.
"I'd say Mich is trying to cheer up Kimi, from the sound of it," she giggled trying to imagine the looks passing across the wolf demons. Her two were definitely a pair of trouble. "I'll go see to them."
She walked out the cave as they finished their song and proceeded to dance. She had to laugh at their antics but if she didn't stop it soon a riot would break out. She'd seen this type of dancing off Michiko's favorite movie, 'Save the Last Dance.' It wasn't something to be done infront of a bunch of male demons especially since nethier girl was marked. "Okay girls," she walked up to them. She placed her hand on Kimi's cheek. "How are you feeling?"
"I'm okay, feeling a lot better now. Actually I was wanting to go for a walk would that be okay?"
"I don't think you should go off all alone dear. Not after what happened earlier today, you are in danger. Let me get someone to walk with you. I'm sure Inuyasha would gladly go if not I can ask Kouga to go with you."
The thought of being alone with Kouga was just too much for her. "Never mind, I'll pass. Can't Michiko go with me? I'll even take Socks with me, us three did just fine earlier by ourselves." As if on cue the wolf walked up to sit beside his master.
Kagome didn't particularly care for her daughter's choice of a pet. "Umm, I guess that would be fine. But don't wander too far and yell if you get into anyone trouble." She watched the three walk away with a heavy heart. Maybe it would be best if she sent them back home. Somehow she didn't think they would agree to it. She turned around to come face to face with Kouga's smiling face. "Hi, Kouga."
"Kagome, I brought these for you," he held some flowers in his hand. "It was hard to find them, I had to head south a good ways but anything for you Kagome." He had decided to take a run and clear his head. He'd come upon an open field with a few remaining flowers yet to be killed by the frost. His first instinct had been to pick them for Kimi. He mentally slapped himself for the thought and thought of Kagome. She would like the flowers. So he'd picked them and headed back to find her standing alone.
Kimi and Mich had just rounded the bend when Kimi realised she'd forgotten her katana and told them to wait while she ran back to get it. She rounded the bend to find Kouga standing with his back facing her. Only took her a second before she caught sight of her mom taking something out of his hands. Looked like flowers! He was giving her flowers, she felt her heart jerk at the sight. Her weapon was in his cave which meant she'd have to walk right by them. She didn't wanna hear him talking to her mom, his intent was obvious. Instead she turned on her heel and returned the way she came.
Michiko was suprised when Kimi returned only a minute later without anything in hand. "Forget something?"
"No, I just realised it was in Kouga's den and it sounded like the two brothers were in a heated discussion and I didn't want to interrupt. You have yours, so we should be fine. Come on lets get out of here." Kimi kept marching trying to stay a few feet ahead of her sister, so she couldn't see the tears that threatened to fall. "Theres a trail over here that leads into the valley."
