CHAPTER 22: LEAVING A HOUSE FOR A HOME
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Thirty minutes later, they arrived at Sesshoumaru’s home. Home? No, Kagome shook her head in awe, it was a palace, like the ones in fairy tales. It was hidden deep within the mountains of Tokyo, far from the busy bustle of the city. However, there was an aura around the palace that was a little eerie to Kagome. It seemed to overwhelm her, and yet it strangely reminded her of her fiancée, strong, unbending, cold, and unwelcoming, but there was an ethereal beauty that captivated her.
Sesshoumaru parked the car, got out and went to help Kagome out. She had been strangely quiet after she was attacked, it irritated him. Plus the fact, that he could still smell the lingering odor of that fucking bastard that dared touch her. He was a half-breed, of that Sesshoumaru was certain, but he did not recognize the scent. However, he would find out as much as he could about the asshole.
Kagome exited the car and followed behind Sesshoumaru wordlessly. She just took in the atmosphere around her. In the evening dusk, Kagome noticed a beautiful garden a couple yards away that seemed to steal her breath. Yet, her sight traveled around the grounds again and found that it would be easy to lose oneself here. Nervously, Kagome started to play with the ring on her left hand. It began to pulse. No, it had to be her imagination.
Sesshoumaru turned slightly to glance back at Kagome. “You will stop this insidious moping, at once!”
That snapped Kagome out of her revelry and made her forget all about the ring on her finger. “Excuse me? Who said I was moping? Jerk! I was thinking! I…”
Sesshoumaru covered her mouth with his hand silencing her ranting. Kagome then opted instead to give him a scathing look. “Raise your voice at me again and you will not like the consequences Kagome.” He threatened.
In response, she snorted then mumbled something against his hand.
Kagome’s breath was hot against his cold hand and it stirred something within him. He liked her fire. Kagome wasn’t afraid to speak her mind to him, when others did. She was refreshing. Sesshoumaru slowly took his hand away from her mouth. “What was that, dear?” He mocked.
“I told you it wasn’t always going to be easy.” Kagome said, matching his glare.
Then with a blink of an eye, he picked Kagome and raced like the wind into his home.
Kagome held on for dear life, as she swore they were moving faster the speed of light.
Sesshoumaru’s presence in the manor was not made known to the rest of the occupants. He wanted it that way. Sesshoumaru had to take care of his fiancée and the smell coming from her. It was sickening mixture of lilacs and that bastard’s scent, yet it was making Sesshoumaru nauseous. He had a new goal right now, remove the offensive odor. Sesshoumaru made his way to a known destination. The bathroom.
As he came upon his private chamber, the doors opened on there own accord to let the Master of the house in. It was an enchanted door that had been in the family for generations. It only allowed entrance to the Lord and Lady of the manor.
Kagome’s mouth fell open in disbelief, well, when she finally had the courage to crack open her eyes and take a look around. They were in the largest bathroom in the world, she thought in disbelief. It was bigger then her entire apartment, maybe even bigger. In the middle of the floor was an under ground bathing pool, not tub, but pool. The size of an Olympic swimming pool. Kagome could see the steam rising from the clear water, and the scent of spice and rosewood mingled in the air. Candles gave a light romantic glow to the gold-beige colored wall in the bathroom.
Sesshoumaru stopped at the edge of the water, and looked down at Kagome. He smiled at what he was going to do next.
Kagome thought she saw something flash through Sesshoumaru’s eyes that mirrored briefly on laughter and mischief. Yet, the next thing she knew, her fiancée’s hand disentangle her hands from around his neck and smirked.
“Kagome?”
She didn’t answer him.
“Your defiance will cost you.” With that he dropped her clothes and all in the bathing pool.
*SPLASH*
Kagome felt warm water encircle her entire body just seconds after she realized that gravity was bringing her down. ‘Sesshoumaru!’ She screamed in her thoughts. ‘You evil, no good, conniving, rude, arrogant,….’ Kagome felt her body sinking farther down into the depth of the pool and realized that cursing Sesshoumaru right now wasn’t a priority.
‘Sink or swim, Kags? Which one is it going to be?’
‘Neither,’ she replied to the voice. The lack of air must have made her a little delusional, as she made a half baked decision to scare Sesshoumaru. She smiled into the pristine water. Kagome remembered all the years of swim team practice in her younger days. She could hold her breath under water for over two minutes, and if Sesshoumaru didn’t get worried by then, well she would start swimming to the top and give him hell.
Sesshoumaru watched the small figure sank deeper and deeper in the water. The pool was twenty feet deep and that foolish woman hadn’t started swimming to the surface yet.
Kagome figured it had been about a minute that she had been under the water. She could see his figure now looking a little concerned, as he leaned over the edge of the bathing pool. If Kagome could have laughed, she would have.
‘Damnit! Weak humans!’ He cursed himself. ‘I bet she can’t even swim.’ Sesshoumaru was mad at himself for putting her endanger involuntarily, however; it was just one more reminder that humans are weak pathetic creatures. He shed his business jacket and tossed it to the ground while grabbing the bottom of his shirt and pulled it over his head. Next, went the shoes and socks. Sesshoumaru was going to take off the rest of his clothes before diving into the water to save her, but a loud surge of bubbles from the bottom of the water got his attention.
Kagome was becoming impatient, so she decided to give that famous last burst of air from her lungs to hopefully increase his frenzied panic, or at least, that was what she wanted.
‘Alright, Kags?! What are you going to do once he comes to save you?’ The voiced asked trying to reason with her.
‘You mean, if he decides to come after me,’ she answered back dryly. ‘Then I will swim away from him. Thus, making him realize I was toying with him all along. It’s called payback, duh!’
Sesshoumaru drove into the water.
Kagome sensed the intrusion in the water from above and knew he finally decided to save her. ‘About freakin’ time,’ she thought heatedly. Her senses became one with the water, as Kagome moved through the water, fast and graceful.
Sesshoumaru didn’t see her move for a while, but then if he had blinked he would have missed it, or rather he. ‘Damn her insolence!’ Sesshoumaru growled, yet as he watched her, he notice that she was swimming away from him. Sesshoumaru gave chase.
Kagome swore she had a greater lead over Sesshoumaru when she glanced back over her shoulder. Her gray-blue eyes saw him speeding like a bullet in the water towards her. ‘Uh,oh!’ Kagome began to pick up the pace of her strokes and refocused her attention. She could see the steps and railing that would lead to freedom from the pool. ‘Almost there,’ she said. Her hand met the railing as she hauled herself up out of the water. ‘Air!’ Kagome breathed it in greedily.
Sesshoumaru caught up to Kagome in a matter of seconds, and saw that she was pulling herself out of the water. ‘I think not!’ His hand grabbed for her slender ankle, and once he had a good hold on her, he unceremoniously yanked her back into the water.
“Argh!” Kagome went back under. She turned violently in the water and came face to face with Sesshoumaru. He let go of her ankle and sent her a look that would have made the weak of heart faint. That is, if she wasn’t just as mad at him.
Sesshoumaru watched her through his heated gaze. He observed Kagome’s figure suspended animation in the water. Raven tresses fanned out around her, with arms stubbornly crosses over her chest. Ruby lips in a firm line of displeasure, and silver blue eyes that seem too glowed. Next, Sesshoumaru seem to notice how her clothes were clinging to her curves.
Kagome grew weary of him just starring at her, so she tried to get out of the pool again. But Kagome was stopped when Sesshoumaru drew her to his chest. Kagome began to think Sesshoumaru was just toying with her. Just like she had done to him. ‘Great Kags! You always have to pick fights with someone, and then never finish them.’ She swallowed.
He heard, and that caused a smile cross his face. Sesshoumaru, then, within a blink of an eye hauled Kagome over his shoulder and jumped from the water. He landed gracefully on the titled floor.
