bad boy

Part 2 of 12

by: kittie le sabre

Kagome stood under the shower, letting the hot spray beat into the cold numbness that was protecting her from the strain of confusion and pain she felt. Shouldn’t she be happy that she was free? Able to go back to her Hojo and the Elite without anyone knowing what happened?

She had called Sango earlier, concerned over what had occurred with Miroku, but the other girl wasn’t answering her phone. Rin had left several messages on Kagome’s voice mail, begging her to call her ASAP. But she’d gotten back so very late, Rin would be asleep by now.

What had this freedom cost her? Or Inuyasha? Was she ready to admit her feelings? That she had reveled in the things he’d done to her? That made her one sick puppy then.

True, he had never actually harmed her except on a psychological level. But hadn’t she longed for someone to dominate the force of her own will? Hojo wasn’t capable of that.

Inuyasha’s confessions had reached her. She was forced to see him, to understand his pain and why he’d been driven to the point of harming himself and others. To learn more about youaki and hanyou, she was forced to face the reality that a ‘half-breed’ did not fit into either the human or the youaki world. Nazuna’s betrayal had ruined his innocence and his trust. She had callously thrown his love away.

It didn’t excuse what he’d done to her, or the other girls, but it forced Kagome to see that he wasn’t a bastard just because he could be one; that his bitterness had come from a source.

When she’d gotten out of the SUV, Kagome had staggered into Kaede’s waiting arms. She was bone tired; physically drained and emotionally sore. The housekeeper had suggested a shower and some hot tea. Funny, those very things had started off her adventurous evening with Inuyasha and the others.

It was time to focus on her miko abilities. She had a responsibility now.

Leaving the shower, she wrapped a towel around herself, wandering back into her room. No sooner had she crossed the threshold, that she immediately bumped into a very warm and solid wall.

With her heart pounding in her throat, Kagome looked up and fell into a pair of piecing eyes in a piquant face of cruel beauty. Wild dark curls lay tousled on a pair of broad shoulders beneath a black T-shirt. A vicious smirk failed to mar the sensuous perfection of his mouth.

Whatever he was, it was not human. The smirk intensified, and she knew then he could read her thoughts.

“Kagome,” he murmured, brimming with dark amusement. He grasped her upper arms when she tried to take a step back.

“Release me,” the girl ordered, focusing her energy until a luminous pink aura began to radiant from her. Right now, she was more angry at herself for not sensing him earlier. “I don’t know who you are, but you have NO right to be here!”

“I’m a friend,” the ‘demon’ stated, unperturbed by the threat of purification. “I’m here to help.”

“ ‘Help’? I seriously doubt that. Youkai and ningen have opposing ideas of ‘help’.”

“Very well then. I’ll give you some thinking space to prove I’m no threat.”

Kagome suppressed her sigh of relief when he let her go and moved away. She didn’t appreciate him sitting on her bed, but at least he wasn’t close or physically restraining her. All things considered, she was pretty calm. Purification had its uses.

“I am Deimos. I was once a god; now I am the Lord of Terror.” Deimos narrowed his eyes at her. He saw no reason to hide who or what he was from this young miko. He might be a debased god, but he refused to allow her to categorize him as a youkai.

Kagome’s eyes widened. She vaguely recalled a story about a girl named Minako who’d been involved with someone called Deimos. The details eluded her, but she found herself wondering if the two were related.

“I am… familiar with Minako, yes, but she is none of your concern. In fact, your purity reminds me of her,” Deimos said, unabashed about her knowing that he could read her every thought.

Kagome was fast losing patience. It was almost five in the morning! She was exhausted! She was grateful that she was being allowed to stay home after her ordeal. Ji-chan had insisted on putting ofuda outside her door. Souta had made her a snack and brought it upstairs to share with her. She’d been looking forward to being alone. This unwelcome interruption was the last straw.

“Why don’t you say what you need to and leave?”

Deimos’ sable eyebrow lifted at this, as he crossed his black leather clad legs and pulled a cigarette case literally of out thin air. He removed a silk-rolled cigarette, and then put it away with a menacing curl of his lips at her glare.

“It’s a vice I’ve recently acquired from your kind and you’re being a prat about it,” he commented. “Come over here. I won’t bite.”

Kagome hesitated before cautiously moving towards him. She noticed that his shadow on the wall appeared to be quite demonic. There were even horns protruding out his head and wings on his back. Interesting.

She sat down on a nearby cushion, waiting, feeling outside of herself. Now was not the time to think of Inuyasha.

“Don’t worry about him. He’s not off the hook with you yet,” Deimos quipped, dismissing her stunned expression. “Kagome, everyone at Midoriko High School is in danger. The youkai world is teetering on the edge of chaos. Naraku is the cause. And the fact that you have something that he desperately wants.”

“What?”

“Let’s just say that he craves power and that you are the source of it.”

“Then I have a right to know what that is!” Kagome was tired of his games and she rose, ready to demand that he leave or she would have to force him to.

Before she could react, Deimos had gotten to his feet. For a moment, she could see his true form. Horns, wings, the claws on his feet and the mottled color on the bottom half of his body. She shrieked as the bath towel was callously snatched away from her, and she was left naked. Faster than the speed of thought, Deimos struck out, and caught her in the side with razor sharp claws. The abrupt, sharp pain made her dizzy for several moments as the splash of warm blood welled up. She could hear his voice again, and she was almost unconscious.

“You’ll survive this, young one, never fear. It’s better this way. Naraku would have butchered and killed you.”

Kagome surrendered herself to the lull of the soothing words and the comforting darkness cocooning her.

Suddenly the door was flung open, and she could hear Kaede’s voice chanting prayers and demanding that Deimos depart.

“Begone, Dark One! You are not welcome here! You’ll not have her, or what you’ve come for!”

“This isn’t over, old hag!” Deimos snapped in a voice like thunder that echoed with elemental force in the insignificant space of the bedroom.

When she finally awoke the sun was streaming through the windows. Kagome noticed that Kaede was dozing in a chair and that her torso had been bandaged up. There was something around her neck on a necklace. When she looked down, she saw that it was the Shikon no Tama.

“What in the hell are you doing here?” Karran was shocked at the appearance of the woman standing before her.

“I’ve got nothing to lose,” Ayame stated, “and everything to gain by what’s in that envelope.”

“I don’t see how,” Karran returned, narrowing her eyes. Being with The Assassins, she’d never cared for The Wolves. After lowering herself to becoming involved with The Spiders, she could go no lower. Well…perhaps she was making too many assumptions.

“My money is good. I need what’s in that package to prove to Ko- to prove my point that some things aren’t always as innocent as they appear.” Ayame had a fierce look of determination on her face. She reached into her messenger bag and pulled out an envelope, shoving it towards Karran.

Karran didn’t utter another word but took the envelope, aware that it wasn’t the money Naraku was after, but the opportunity to gain the upper hand over this ookami youkai. Ayame was the most resistant to working with, and for The Spiders, and as Kouga’s second, that could not be allowed to continue. The Spider’s Leader valued her influence over Kouga, Ginta and Hakkaku. For too long she had resisted becoming caught in his web.

Naraku had finally found a chink in Ayame’s armor and was exploiting her weakness. Some time in the future, this would cost Ayame, but she had obviously been willing to pay the price. With Naraku, it was never just about money.

“Whatever the reason you’re doing this for, it had better be worth it. It won’t just end with the money; that’s only just part of Naraku’s price,” Karran murmured, stabbing out her cigarette.

Ayame’s jaw was stubbornly set as she took the package from Karran. She briskly nodded, bowed and thanked her, walking away without another word. Karran shrugged, and pulled out her cell phone and dialed.

After five rings, Naraku picked up with a curt, “Yes?”

“It’s done.”

“Excellent. Meet me at my place by midnight and we can complete our negotiations. Akago wants to ‘see’ you.” The line clicked off abruptly when he hung up.

Karran hissed in anger. How dare he? Did he think he was going to offer her up to that teenaged pervert as a free piece of ass! She was an Assassin!

No, she had been an Assassin. Now she was just anyone’s meat. Sesshoumaru had made that clear when he’d used her to replace Thompson Jennifer.

If she was going to be used, then she’d best gain the most out of the situation. She’d fuck Akago if she had to, but she would demand that Kagura be killed. If she couldn’t have Sesshoumaru, her rival wouldn’t have him either. No matter how often he’d denied it, she knew how much Kagura wanted Sesshoumaru.

Karran found herself wondering what was in the package that Ayame wanted so desperately. Like her, she’d been willing to sell her soul to Naraku to get it, and of course it involved a man. She’d keep her eyes open in the meantime, maybe at some point, it could all be turned to her advantage.

Ayame leaned against her bike, adjusting the earpiece of her cell phone as she waited for Koga to pick up after the third ring. He impatiently snarled into the phone.

“Why aren’t you fucking here yet, Ayame? The meeting is over and you’re late!”

“I had an emergency, Koga. Calm down before you fly off at me. There’s something really important that you need to know.”

“I don’t think so. I’m fining your ass for insubordination and for missing this meeting. The race is coming up, and I don’t want Inu-kuso and crew winning again!”

“I wouldn’t be in a hurry to screw over my lieutenant if I were you, Boss.”

That gave the leader of The Wolves pause. Ayame never issued a threat lightly.

“What ya got for me, Ayame?”

“It’s about Kagome.”

“Meet me in 20 minutes at my place.”

Ayame’s grin was as unpleasant as it was feral when she hung up.

Tsubaki checked the wards for the millionth time.

She was camped out in the middle of nowhere, but the RV she’d acquired was reinforced with black wards to keep her hidden. She wasn’t taking any chances.

The RV had every luxury she could think of, including a hot tub. She had called in a few favors to get that. The only draw back was in having to resign from her position as principle on such short notice with the superintendent, Toutou-sai, arriving tomorrow.

She gritted her teeth in rage at what her affiliation with Naraku and his vile cousin, had cost her. Fortunately, she had an emergency escape plan in the event that they betrayed her. There was never any question that they would not.

That asshole Sesshoumaru had never responded to her request for protection. She had offered them her services but little had come of it. When things were more in her favor, she would make certain that he regretted his actions.

The black miko sank down into the plush black chair, picking up the wine glass and sipping the rich Merlot. She set the glass down and then casually lifted her hookah to take a few puffs from the high-end opium she’d brought along to relieve the stress. Several minutes later, she was drowsily floating along the strains of Sibelius when the lights began to flicker.

Startled, she sat up, fighting to clear her head and to focus on any threat. When nothing else occurred, she relaxed until she gradually fell into an almost unnatural slumber.

She never saw the black feather that had drifted into her lap.

Deimos peered down at her with a mocking smirk upon his fine mouth. He normally didn’t occupy himself in matters that involved what he viewed as lesser beings (such as youkai), but thwarting Naraku and his ilk could prove interesting. Especially with the knowledge he’s acquired from his ‘guests.’

Kikyou had provided with hours of entertainment and useful information. She had cleverly bargained with him. Her price had been the dark miko.

Sensing his presence, Tsubaki started awake; her eyes opened, widening at the sight of the tall male staring down at her.

“Hello, Tsubaki-san,” the Lord of Terror purred, delighting in her confusion and upset.

Tsubaki attempted to rise, but was unable to do so. Her lips started moving to utter the curse, but Deimos snickered and then openly laughed at her, halting her. She didn’t bother hiding the confusion on her face.

“Who are you?”

“What you should be asking yourself is why I’m here,” he suggested, moving away from the bed. “Get dressed. You’ve a… busy night ahead of you.”

“So you work for Naraku!” she spat angrily, discovering that she was able to sit up. He released her long enough for her to get out of the chair.

Deimos sneered, “Do I appear to be anyone’s handyman? I don’t work for anyone, you foolish slut.”

The dark miko turned away. She could still feel the full force of his power radiating from him and knew that this was no one to cross. But his insults rubbed her pride raw. She was not some menial domestic to serve his whims.

“What would you have me say, Deimos-sama? It appears that I’ve trespassed beyond the point of an apology. All I can offer you is a curse since I’m beyond redemption.”

“The longer I’m in your presence, the more you piss me off. Playtime is over.”

There was a frigid burst of wind and the again the flickering of the lights. Tsubaki became only aware of Deimos chilly displeasure, then swirling darkness.

When she became cognizant again, she was able to ascertain that she was in a room with concrete walls and floors, lying naked and secured to a cold stone slab. There were no windows and it was dimly lit. Her neck and shoulders were bound so that she could not turn her head. The sound of shoes striking the hard floor came from the far left, but she was unable to turn her head.

The person came closer, and Tsubaki was finally able to get an excellent view of the new arrival. She was dressed in a form-fitting black jumpsuit with tall boots. In her right hand, she lightly brandished a miniature cat-of-nine-tails. The woman tapped it against her thigh as she studied the kuro miko.

“You don’t know who I am, do you?” the woman retorted, frowning. “It’s truly sad when the principal of a school doesn’t recognize one of her own students.”

Tsubaki remained silent. There was no point in replying. It was obvious that she was to be tortured. The bitch would soon discover that she was no novice. Let her try her best.

The mocking, scornful laughter of the woman made her look at her.

“It’s won’t be that easy, Tsubaki. I’ve waited a long, long time for my revenge.” The woman smirked. “Everything is not as it seems.” She moved closer to her enemy until she was hovering above her with the raised whip, lifting it until it was almost touching Tsubaki’s face.

“Tell me what you see.”

Tsubaki reluctantly studied the whip. At first, it appeared to be leather strips, but the longer she stared at it, the more she realized that the tails were moving, wriggling around! The tiny ends became more distinguished, and she could see the demonic heads and venomous fangs and glowing crimson eyes.

“Now you do understand,” the young woman cooed, flicking the youkai whip.

The miniature noko youkai sank their point needle-sharp teeth into the miko’s skin, the tips penetrating, ejecting the toxins into her nervous system, heightening her agony. Tsubaki writhed and there was no pleasure in the scourging. The poison drained her power slowly until there was nothing left of her energy.

Her tormentor was whispering harshly into her ear, “Now, you vile bitch, this is only just the beginning.”
*~*~*~*~*~*

Naraku was done biding his time.

He’s removed the obstacles that were hindering the progress of his search for the Shikon no Tama. Now he’d just received a tidbit of news that he could no longer ignore.

Someone had issued a challenge to him. He could never ignore a challenge.

That call had come through on his private line in the middle of the night.

“Where did you get this number?” Naraku had snarled at the person on the opposite end. He gestured for one of his Spider underlings to make the necessary preparations to rook the call from his cell phone. No one fucked with him and got away with it.

“Don’t bother trying to find me, Naraku,” the husky voice had mocked. “I’m beyond the reach of technology. The multi-universe is a large place. As a servant of Chaos, it’s quite easy to bend the Laws of Science.”

Naraku was ready to hang up, since more than a hint of truth layered the interloper’s words. But the caller’s next words caused every hair on his entire body to stand up. By the time the stranger had finished speaking, Naraku was lying naked on his bed, arching his back and thrusting his hips as he attempted to relieve the towering erection that the conversation had inspired. This brought new meaning to the term ‘phone sex’.

His hand slid up and down; kneading his thickly veined turgid flesh as the male’s words flooded his mind:

“I have a proposition for you, Naraku. Cancel this upcoming race. The stakes are higher now. I have what you want. All you have to do is race against me. If you win, I will hand over the Shikon Jewel. And yes, I DO know where it is. Don’t doubt me for instant. “

“What do I get if you lose?”

Naraku, you and The Spiders will become my devoted slaves for all eternity. I will own you all body and soul.

“You have to offer me two things for me to agree to this.”

“And what might that be?” The voice was indulgent and abundant with scornful amusement. It was the obvious that the man was confident and had never lost a wager.

“Your name. And proof that you know where the Jewel is.”

There was a pause before the cold laughter cut across the lines of the phone.

“My name is Deimos. Kagome Higurashi. I will contact you in several days.”

Naraku allowed the visions of possessing the Shikon No Tama to overtake him as he violently climaxed, while imagining the power that would be at his full disposal. How he would turn the ningen plane into his own empire where demons suborned humanity. And everyone, and everything would be HIS slave. Including that one called Deimos.

“Lord of Terror, indeed,” Naraku scoffed, dismissing the challenger but not the reward. He needed more information on this unknown opponent.

Stepping over the congealing puddle of blood, and the dismembered remains of Onigumo, Naraku walked to his desk to call his secretary. He needed to get the remainder of his house in order; best he start with The Wolves. Namely a pretty redhead who had become more than useful in obtaining what he needed.

Recommended Reading (Media Miner and AFF.net):

“The Snare” by Nokomarie: This is the sequel to “Dogs In Tokyo”. The main premise of this story involves Miroku’s erstwhile drunken mentor, Mushin, and some youaki he’s pissed off. Sesshoumaru and Rin’s changing-unresolved relationship potential, Jaken’s new vices; interspersed with newlyweds Kagome and Inuyasha, appearances by Sango, Miroku and the Higurashi clan, are all woven into the story. This author has a gift for historic detail, contemporary Japan, black comedy and series continuation. Her OCs are brilliant and she is ab fab when it comes to action.

“Pretty Brown Eyes,” by InuGrrrl: An AU fic featuring Rin x Sesshoumaru, co-starring Kagome/Inuyasha and Miroku/Sango. Co-appearances include: Koga, Shiori, and Bankotsu. The age-old story of Miss Nice-Poor-Girl (with a chip on her shoulder) meeting Mr. Rich and Sexy and Lethal (who feels that he owns the world, cuz he does!) I adore her depictions and everything is so very hip and modern in her stories. Her citrus blazes (she doesn’t give herself enuff credit!). A very prolific writer with loads of awesome fics. Currently, she is one of my favorite reads- I ADORE her Inu-Kag AU fics. She takes the chemistry between them to new levels.

“Love Is What Keeps Us” by TassanBurrfoot: This author does a different spin with a Rin & Shippou combo. It works. Very original, superb OCs and lots of angst and insightfulness in her writing. Her sequel, “Tomo’s Girl” deserves five stars. Please review this author. She deserves more praise for her efforts, and tell her I sent you! Lots of peeps don’t give fics with OCs their due, and I think that sucks, since some characters that are created prove to be extremely well done.

“Suki and Tsukuyomaru: A Love Story” by WhisperingWolf: I didn’t know what to expect, since no seems to have approached a story about Shiori’s parents, but I’m glad this writer did. This author creatively starts at the beginning, from the moment of the couple’s meeting to Tsukuyomaru’s death. A good writer and the pacing worked for me. Please check it out.

A/N: I do plan on writing a darkly erotic sequel involving Rin and Sess. It won’t be as long as “bb” though. “bb” is coming to the true zenith of the story which involves Naraku. So thanks for the reviews and please hang tight. Everyone thanks again for the kind words of support about my family tragedy this year.
