Just for the night

As the sun dropped from
the sky, the little pack scattered around. Sango was safely tucked in the lap of
Sesshoumaru, Rin slept with Kanna and Shippou inside the hut. Kagome and
Inuyasha had moved to sit on a wide branch. Kagura sat outside Kaede’s hut but
was accompanied by Miroku.

Kagura sniffed the air,
it had traces of miasma in it and she frowned. The battle was near and she
feared the moment she would face her former master and creator. It was possible
she would loose her life in the battle, but she would do anything to keep her
big little sister safe – anything.

Kagura-san, what are you
thinking about? asked Miroku with concerned voice.

-         
We need to have Sesshoumaru-sama
and Inuyasha-sama here now, she said.

-         
Why is that?

-         
The battle with Naraku is near;
I can smell his miasma stench.

-         
Already??

-         
Yes, please – get the brothers;
make sure they put their mates in a safe place.

-         
O-ok Kagura-san.

Miroku hurried away
towards Inuyasha’s nesting place and whistled a low tune; he did not want Kagome
to wake up. The hanyou was soon on his feet and carried his mate to Kaede’s hut
and laid her down on a futon. Kaede looked suspicious at him but he just shook
his head and motioned the old miko to meet him outside. And just as they got
out, Sesshoumaru came with Sango and he did the same and they all met out of
hearing range of the sleeping women.

He is coming, said Kagura with
dark voice and sniffed the air to confirm her suspicion for the tenth time.

-         
Yes, I can feel it too, said
Miroku. If I am not mistaken he will be here within a few hours.

-         
Then we must move from the
village. Inuyasha do you have the jewel? asked Sesshoumaru.

-         
Yes, he will be going after
this, said Inuyasha and held up the uncompleted jewel before their eyes.

-         
Let us move so we do not let the
village come to any harm, or their people, said Kagura and began walking away
from the small village with a rather brisk pace.

-         
Are you sure you want to do this
Kagura-san, you could stay with the children and Kagome and Sango, said Miroku
with a low voice.

-         
No, I want to make him pay for
what he did to Kanna, growled Kagura with bitterness.

-         
What about you?

-         
I do not care what happens to
me, I will make him suffer. She is just a child even if she is older than me.

-         
I care, said Miroku and stopped
the wind youkai by taking her hand into his.

Inuyasha and Sesshoumaru
continued their walk, passing the two and nodded their consent towards the monk.

-         
W-what do you mean Miroku-sama?
Kagura felt like she was babbling.

-         
I do not know how it happened,
but when I saw your feather in the sky and the blood that dripped from you I
felt like my heart would burst with something… I did not know then what it was,
but I think I do know. I don’t want you to get hurt Kagura-san, because you have
captured my heart as well as your own, Miroku said and moved his cursed hand to
stroke her blushing cheek.

I will not ask you to stand
down, I know you want to defeat him as much as I do, but still, I do not want
you to get hurt either.

Miroku…

Kagura felt tears drop
from her red eyes and she leaned her face into his touch. “How can he be like
this… he his so sweet and caring.” she thought and let him close the
distance between them and hug her.

What I really wanted to tell you
Kagura-san is… I think I have fallen for you. I love you.

-         
H-how?? I have fought you
countless times… she whispered.

-         
I don’t know and I don’t care,
all I know is that I love you and if you will accept me – I would gladly be your
mate, and we can give Kanna the pleasure of having both a mother and a father,
said Miroku and inhaled her breezy scent.

Kagura went silent; his
proposal was more than tempting, just the thought of giving her little sister
the possibility to have parents…

Let us fight the bastard first
and if I survive I will be your mate Miroku, I will very much like to have you
as my husband, she said and kissed him lightly on his lips.

You have made me one happy man
Kagura, my love, he said.

But please promise me one thing…

Of course, I will take her in as
my daughter, said Miroku and brushed the tears from Kagura’s face.

They kissed shyly and
walked off to meet their enemy, hand in hand.
