Chapter 20:
Kagome stood in shock under her barrier as Inuyasha walked around it attacking it every so often. Kagome snapped out of it when she felt Sesshomaru pushing on her walls. She strengthened them before facing Inuyasha.
“What is your problem Inuyasha!” Inuyasha threw his head back and laughed.
“My problem? I told you to stay away from me. I told you that the best thing that you could do was to never cross my path again. I don’t have a problem, but apparently you have a death wish.” Inuyasha lunged at the barrier again and Kagome let it drop. Inuyasha, expecting to the hit it, fell to the ground short of Kagome.
“I haven’t done anything wrong! If you want to kill me then that’s fine, I can’t change that but I just saved your life! If I hadn’t come when I did, Kikyo would have sent you to hell.” Inuyasha stood from his face plant and stared at her.
“You left me.”
“I left you? I told you that I wanted you to come with me. I told you that I wasn’t sure if I wanted to go with Sesshomaru. You left me no choice when YOU left ME! Inuyasha, I know that I can’t love you the way you want me to. I know that I’ll never be able to feel the same way you are, but you’re the closest thing I have to family in this era.” Inuyasha hung his head and his ears went flat on his head.
“What about Sesshomaru?” Kagome smiled and stepped closer to him.
“Sesshomaru is your brother. He cares about you a great deal.” Inuyasha laughed and shook his head.
“I won’t believe that until I hear it from his own mouth.”
“That can be arranged. He wants you to come home Inuyasha.” Inuyasha looked shocked. Kagome opened her link to Sesshomaru and let him see Inuyasha.
(He wants to hear you say it. He needs it to be you that asks him home.)
“I don’t believe that. He would never want me to go back there. Not ever.”
(I see. I will be there in the hour.) Kagome felt Sesshomaru snap the link closed and sighed.
“Sesshomaru will be here within the hour to tell you himself.” Kagome gestured toward the God Tree and sat against its trunk. Inuyasha settled next to her and relaxed. Several minutes pasted in silence.
“I missed you.” Inuyasha turned his head toward Kagome and raised a brow and her. “It hasn’t been the same without you around. You’re like my brother.” Inuyasha pulled her into his embrace.
“I missed you too Kagome.” They sat like that until Kagome felt Sesshomaru drawing near. She sat up straight and looked to the west. A few moments latter Sesshomaru appeared from the trees. Kagome smiled at him and stood. Sesshomaru was at her side in a second and gently grabbed her arm. Kagome looked down and saw that she had been bleeding. Sesshomaru bent down and gently ran his tongue over the wound and it sealed itself in seconds.
“Thanks you Sesshomaru.” Kagome felt Inuyasha stir behind her and pulled from Sesshomaru’s grasp. Sesshomaru and Inuyasha stared at each other for a long moment. Finally Sesshomaru broke the silence.
“Inuyasha.”
“Sesshomaru.”
“Otouto.”
“Aniki.” Sesshomaru held his hand out and slit his palm open. Inuyasha did the same thing. They clasped hands and they flashed green for a moment. Kagome looked on and saw a crescent moon appear on the back on Inuyasha’s hand. Sesshomaru pulled Kagome close to him and wrapped his arms around her. Kagome relaxed against his chest and closed her eyes.
“I’ll have to announce you to the council at the ball, otouto.” Inuyasha just nodded. “Come let us return.” Kagome whistled and Kilala appeared again. Sesshomaru picked her up and placed her on the neko’s back. Sesshomaru took off on his cloud and Inuyasha and Kagome followed. Kagome reached for Sesshomaru and he opened for her.
(What happened?)
(We came to an agreement.)
(What kind of agreement involves blood and your mark appearing on his hand?)
(We agreed to be brothers. He agreed to come home.)
Kagome smiled and sat in silence for the rest of the trip. Before she realized it they had arrived back at the palace. Sango, Rin and Shippo greeted them at the front gate. Sango held back as Shippo ran to Kagome and hugged her. Rin ran to Sesshomaru and buried her face in his pants. Sesshomaru reached down and laid his hand on her head.
“Rin.” She looked up at him. “I want you to meet someone. This is my otouto, Inuyasha. Introduce yourself.” Rin stepped from behind Sesshomaru and bowed to Inuyasha.
“Oi, Inuyasha-sama. My name is Rin, daughter to Sesshomaru.” Rin ducked back behind Sesshomaru again when she was done.
“Oi, Rin.” Inuyasha looked around and sighed. “Nothing’s changed. I still get my old room?” Sesshomaru nodded.
“No one has used the room since you left.” Inuyasha stalked off into the palace. Kagome watched him walk off and sighed. Every thing was how it was supposed to be. Now if only she could make it to the ball…
