I Need A Hero

Chapter 21: I Need A Hero.

Kagome watched Sesshomaru’s face closely, seeing his eyes flare slightly before settling back into their amber coolness.

“What’s wrong?” she whispered quietly, not wanting to alert the rest of the room. Miroku and Koga were looking at him somewhat expectantly.

Inu Yasha and Sango appeared to be oblivious still.

Sesshomaru smiled at his friends and said, “I will have to finish this sometime later. I’ll be back next weekend.”

Koga nodded, knowing that he would find out later, and pulled Miroku around to challenge him for that rematch.

The two started their new game, fully intending on finding out what was going on later.

Kagome was impatient and followed Sesshomaru out of the house.

“What is it? What is going on? Who was that?” The questions flowed out of her mouth before she stopped and waited on her answers.

Sesshomaru only gave her a strained smile as he slid into his black Lexus. Kagome was not one to stand for not being answered. She jumped into the passenger seat and buckled her belt, giving him a stern look.

“I feel like I need to know.” She gave him the only explanation that she had at that moment. Something was pushing her into that car that she could not put a finger on. She followed her gut instinct and got into the car, intent on going with him.

Sesshomaru sighed. He was scared to bring her along. He was just about to argue with her when he surprised himself with cranking the car and pulling out.

The drive was silent.

Kagome watched as they pulled into a parking complex near some stores and some apartment buildings. The place wasn’t one of the nicer areas, but it wasn’t one of the more dangerous areas either.

She followed the dog demon into a decent apartment building. The place looked well cared for with a nice color of paint and a neutral, colored filled flat carpet that was clean.

They walked to the elevator and went the fourth floor.

She followed him to one of the apartments, a few down away from the elevator. It was on the opposite side of the street they had walked in from.

He knocked, and a woman’s voice answered.

Kagura finally heard the knock she had been waiting on. For the first time since making that call, she got out of the chair and walked to the door, trying to figure out a way to check with it still safe.

She pulled up a chair from the table and laid it against the door and opened the door partially to see who was there and what they wanted. Can’t be too careful when you were on your own.

“Hello,” she called as she cracked the door.

A relieved breath left her when she heard the deep baritone come through the opening.

She quickly moved the chair and threw the door open.

“Hey. You came. Sorry, he broke the safety chain when he smashed his way in here,” her words tripped out of her mouth.

Sesshomaru nodded and watched as her face lit up with surprise when she heard Kagome’s heart filled hello.

“I jumped in the car with him. I don’t know why, but I have a very strong feeling that this involves me or is about me and that I am supposed to be here. I usually listen to it because it tends to be right.” Her talkative nature that normally set people at ease humored Kagura. How long had it been since she had been able to enjoy just being one of the girls and talking and having a real tried and true friend?

Her nerves eased as she allowed Kagome’s chatter to fill her and surround her.

She guided her two guests through the kitchen and into the living room.

Sesshomaru continued to ignore his vibrating phone. He knew who that would be. His phone had been going off since he had left Inu Yasha’s house.

He looked around the house and noted the bit of mess here and there and the broken chain hanging from the slide on the door.

He watched as Kagura and Kagome began to talk as they walked through the living room and down a hallway. They paused in front of a door before turning back, and instead of sitting in the living room, they came back to the kitchen.

Kagome was still chattering away, amazingly getting Kagura to do the same. They were talking about Kanna. Kagome was getting the wind witch to tell her all about raising her little girl.

Sesshomaru continued to watch as chairs were put back to rights and coffee was put on. Papers were stacked neatly back and some were put back onto the fridge with magnets.

In no time, the apartment was back to what it must have originally have looked like. All except for the safety chain.

“I am going to get a new one of these,” he said, pointing towards the door. He knew he could find some extra wood easily and another chain would be easy to just go to the door and get. All he had to do right now was make sure they would be safe until he got back. “Do not let anyone else in. Just stay here, and I will yell through the door rather than knock. Stay in the kitchen so you can hear me and keep your phone near you.”

Sesshomaru stepped out into the hallway and stayed until he heard the click of the lock.

Naraku grinned to himself when he saw the tall, fair dog demon leaving the apartment. He knew who was in there. He just had to get them out somehow.

He felt almost ecstatic. Now, he knew that the miko had enough power to get open the lock that stood in between him and the power that he wanted.

He began to plot how he would be able to at least get them to open the door.

Inu Yasha was cussing as Koga drove. Miroku and Sango were in the back seat, just watching the show for the most part as the wolf demon tried to settle down the hanyou.

“How could you have just let her go? Huh? Both of you were standing there with Sesshomaru. I thought she was just seeing him out. But, no… She had to go with him. She had better be alright or else…” His rant continued with more threats, making it very clear that he was very worried about his mate.

Inu Yasha pulled his cell out and called his brother yet again.

Sesshomaru made it back to the apartment in record time. His youkai wouldn’t let him do any less. He had two females and a pup to take care of.

He got to the door and loudly said that he was back and to open the door.

No response.

He pushed gently on the door and growled when it just fell flat down, revealing the destroyed apartment.

A/N: Thanks you guys for reading. I hope you are enjoying reading this as much as I am writing it.

Lord of the Flames: Thanks so much for reviewing Rell. You know that I always love hearing from you. I’ll talk to you later. Love ya. PS. So sorry for not writing you a special thank you. I will have to make it up to you… somehow…

Madmiko: There will be more of an explanation about when Naraku made his decision and why he didn’t just keep Kagome in my next chapter (which hopefully won’t be that long). There is a hint at the explanation in this chapter as to why he wants her, but not the whole reason. Good question. She has a hard choice. I always love hearing from you, so continue to leave reviews. I love to hear what you suggest.

Danny’s Girl: Hey. Yup, I think we are finally seeing part of what Naraku wants. And, he is scary. I like him like that. I promise that you all will start to understand more and more over the next chapter or so. I had to promise to make extra cookies, and he doesn’t usually share them. LOL. I love hearing from you too.
