Threat

Kagome sank to her knees and screamed. It was official she was damned. For the past two weeks she'd done nothing but cry. Both of them had walked away from her and she couldn't blame them. What they must think of her. Youko, hell Kurama as his friends called him, must have been angered when she let him kiss her. She had been willing to be with him. It was probably why he called her a whore. She'd slept with his friend and had been willing to also give herself to him. Koronue must feel betrayed knowing she'd been willing to give herself to another man so easy.

To make matters worse she was just trying to have herself a nice long pity party. It had been rudely interrupted my some ugly pathetic excuse of a youkai. He tore threw her window demanding the jewel. She'd ran out her room and outside to the storage shed. After realizing that she was the one with it, he came after her. She shot him as he came running across the yard. She really didn't need this shit.

Her party was once again interrupted by a girl this time. She appeared out of nowhere riding on an oar. "Who the fuck are you? Samantha gone wild?"

"I'm Botan, ferry girl to the dead."

"Well, I'm not dead, he is. So go away."

"I know that silly." The blue haired girl smiled at her like she didn't have a care in the world.

"What the hell are you so happy about? People shouldn't be able to smile like that. It isn't natural for someone to be that happy."

Botan sighed. Koenma had informed her that the girl probably wouldn't be too happy after hearing the news but she'd yet been given the news. "Oh dear. Kagome Higurashi I've come to speak to you on behalf of Lord Koenma ruler of spirit world."

"Yeah, so."

"I'm not sure how to say this but there is a new threat to the human world and demon world. Koenma also fears that you will become involved regardless. So he has sent me here to bring you to a conference he is having."

"Why should I care either way?" Kagome had already done her part at saving the world.

"Well, there is rumor of them coming for the shikon jewel."

"You just had to say that didn't you." Kagome thought about jumping off a high building at that moment. Well at least this time she was aware of the stakes and the jewel was whole. Of course if they wanted it they'd have to remove it from her body once more. Why couldn't the damn thing find someone else to live in. She should start charging it rent. "Fine."

"Great come with me, oh you might want to put some clothes on first."


Kurama sat on the desk next to Koronue who was standing next to him taking everything in. Botan had come to fetch the fox, informing him that Koenma wanted him at once. She said there was no room for arguement. The meeting was manditory for all of them. So Hiei was there as well as Yusuke. Koronue had come on his own, just to tag along and help his friend.

Koenma walked into room in his teenage form. Yusuke looked at him and laughed. "What are you all decked out for?"

"For your information, we will have company in a little while." Koenma sat down in his chair. "But before Botan gets here I believe a few things need to be explained. First this new threat, I will be rehiring all off you. This situation isn't to be taken lightly. We tried not to interfere five hundred years ago and it had almost been disasterous."

"What now?" Yusuke asked.

"Well to make a long story short. Centuries ago a powerful priestess named Midoriko fought against some youkai, knowing she would soon perish. She did something that would effect centuries to come. She sealed her soul with the remaining demons, therfore the jewel of four souls was born. Or rather the shikon no tama. It has other names as well. Demons and humans alike fought over it for a long time. To get to the point a handful of people managed to destroy a powerful hanyou that had most of the jewel. Fifty years before that it was burnt with the miko that had been in charge with its care. Needless to say the jewel choose its own protector. It chose a guardian to see to its care. Fifty years after it was burnt, for reasons I won't go into right now. It was once again back, it was shattered. The group killed the hanyou that eventually collected all of it but one shard. The guardian had the final piece. During the final battle she managed to complete the jewel and purify it. It was then returned to her body where it now rests."

Kurama spoke then, "Kagome is the Guardian right."

"Yes a Kagome Higurashi. She is indeed its guardian."

"Wait a damn minute," Yusuke remembered the girl Kurama had fought with. "Are you telling me that girl I saw the other day was there five hundred years ago seriously."

"Yes," three people answered.

"How the hell does a human live that long, is the jewel that powerful."

Koenma raised an eyebrow. "What the devil are you rambling on about? The girl isn't even eighteen yet."

"WHAT?" Kurama looked up at that comment.

"Why are you so suprised. Its simple really. When the girl turned fifteen she was pulled into the ancient well on her family's shrine. It is the Well of Time. She was the one who brought the jewel back to the fuedal era fifty years after it had been destroyed. It was she who shattered it. Before she realized she could use the well to return home the damage had been done so she stayed to complete the jewel. After it was completed and purified, she returned to this era where she belonged. Like I said simple." Koenma sat back in his chair catching his breath. "Now, we've heard rumors of this new threat seeking the jewel. The girl has just been attacked so we decided to take action. We won't have what happened centuries ago happen again. She was lucky to have survived last time it was torn from her body. Once corrupted only she can cleanse the jewel."

"Hnn." Hiei looked at the man. "So we are suppose to do?"

"You three or should I say four will see to her safety, until we find out what we are dealing with. I can NOT stress how important this is. Botan should be arriving soon with the girl."
