Chapter Nineteen

Kimi and Michiko were down at the stream washing the blood out of their hair. The water had warmed up some but was still cold. After her reunion with her family all the other wolf demons had come out. Ginta, Hakaku and even Gercha had ran up the mountain to check to see if the rumors flying through the dens were true. Lady Kagome was back and not only that she seemed to be Lady Kimi's mother. They began to wonder if their leader would leave the girl they considered as one of them for the human woman he'd once claimed as his. Gercha assessed the situation quickly and decided to get Kimi out of there quickly. She ran up to her friend and embraced her.

"Thank the gods you are fine, Lady Kimi." Kagome and the other new comers stared as the woman wolf hugged and embraced the girl. "Come you and your sister need to wash up. I'm sure the men will be wanting to hold a meeting." She didn't leave any room for arguement as she propelled her friend away and down the mountain. The girl with the yellow hair followed as she hoped.


Twenty minutes later they were alone and doing just that. Kimi had told her sister of waking up and escaping, then Ginta and Hakaku finding her sometime later. About being brought back to the wolf den where she stayed till she was well enough to leave again. She left the part about Kouga out, for some reason she wanted to hold onto that secret a little bit longer.

Michiko filled her in about Sesshomaru, who was Inuyasha's older brother had joined them. The other three had left returning to protect their family. She saw Mich blush at the mention of Sesshomaru, "What's up?"

"What do you mean?"

"Don't play coy with me you aren't good at it. You like him don't you?" Kimi watched as her sister turned red.

"No, he's arrogant, stubborn, cocky, self-centered, and a total jerk."

"And you like him," Kimi didn't need an answer it was written all over her face. "That's great sis. He's really cute if a little bit on the pretty side."

Michiko had almost forgot, "Oh yeah guess what I found out." She started to jump up and down. "Remember that story that mom told us about how the guy we now know is Inuyasha used to get when another prince wanted the servant girl also. You will never guess who it is. It's the leader of this very same wolf tribe, think they said his name was Kouga. I believe that was him standing near us earlier." She heard her sister gasp. "I know how weird and we had believed that part was made up. If what I heard from Inuyasha means anything, he was really after mom the first time she was here."

Gercha had been standing not far from the two incase they needed anything. She heard the yellow haired one hand out the very information she herself had tried to keep away from Kimi. She knew Kimi would be upset, everyone in their clan knew what had occured between her and Kouga just the night before. She stepped forward so the girls could spot her. The yellow haired one spotted her and smiled. "My lady would you mind if I speak with Kimi alone?"

Michiko wasn't sure what was going on and looked over at her sister, upon seeing her nod she got dressed and made her way back up the mountain.

Kimi felt her heart crash to her feet, and everything that had been spoken came back to her. 'She was a human, she was gentle, kind, she looked like you, you resemble her, she had disappeared a long time ago. Disappeared not DEAD.' All the signs had been there but she'd been blind to see them. More thoughts ran through her head. She could hear Ginta's voice, "Kouga always went out of his way to see her. You resemble his first love the woman he had wanted to make his mate. Wolves mate for life. Sex is just a basic need." She placed her face in her hands and began to cry. She was in love with him, she knew that now. She was in love with a man that loved her mother.

Gercha saw her start to cry and without taking off her own clothes she stepped into the icy water. She drew her friend to her and cradled her head as she cried. All the wolves knew the situation but it wasn't their place to interfere. Kouga had taken the girl's innocence without marking her and now the woman he'd wanted as his mate was back. To make matters worse for Kimi it was her mother someone she loved dearly. She knew the girl could never hate her mother, which in truth would make the situation harder for the girl. Everyone had sensed the mark Lady Kagome now wore, the hanyou had already marked her but did that mean Kouga would give up his claim on her and try to find happiness with her daughter.

Kimi cried herself to sleep on the woman's shoulder. Gercha took the girl out of the water before she caught a chill. She grabbed the cloth the girl had been planning to dry herself off with and wrapped it about the girl best she could. She carried her up the mountain upon seeing none of her family nor the men outside she took the girl into her own den and layed her down so she could rest.

Inuyasha, Sesshomaru, Kagome, Kouga, Ginta, Hakaku and Nikato sat around a fire in Kouga's cave talking. Kagome had explained to them how her daughter been taken and how they had travelled to find her. They also spoke of the demon that called himself Kuroyama.

Ginta spoke up first, "Lady Kagome why would this demon be after Lady Kimi surely she did nothing to offend him if you all have recently come back to this time."

She slapped her hand together ready to spill the biggest bean of all, "Well the thing is Kimi has half the shikon jewel in her body."

"What?" this came from the four wolf demons. "Yeah we believe he is after the jewel half that she has." Kagome hadn't been sure how Kouga would react knowing the jewel was back.

Michiko was outside the cave when she heard her mother explain the situation. She stepped inside suprising every one by asking a question that was starting to plaque her. "Then why not me?" Kagome looked up at her daughter not sure what she meant. "When we were first attacked they didn't bother with me. And ever since then we had no problems. On the way here it was just us four, it would seem if he was after just the jewel, two demons would be an easier target than a whole mountain side filled with them. But he didn't target us he targeted where she was instead. Even when we were both on that mountain side they didn't want me, they were only after Kimi. Why focus on half of the jewel when you can have the whole damn thing?"

Kagome realised she was right. Sesshomaru spoke up then, "The girl, get the girl. When I first came upon Kouga a demon had charged towards us chanting, 'the jewel shard, give me your jewel shards.' But these demons didn't mention the jewel. They were chanting, 'The girl, get the girl.' They are after the girl herself not the jewel in her possession. So ask yourself, what does she have that Kuroyama would want."

Inuyasha didn't believe it, why else would the demon want the girl if not for the jewel half she had and stated such. "Of course he's after the jewel why else would anyone want the girl?" Four different growls filled the cave. They were about to threaten him with physical harm but didn't get the chance. The hanyou was on his back in seconds with Michiko's knee digging into his chest and her blade pointing into his throat. She had a hold of his hair, "I will only tell you this once, regardless of you being my mother's mate if you ever talk down about my sister again I will gladly remove your tongue."

Kagome gasped when she saw her daughter fly across the room. She had heard Inuyasha's comment and realised how it sounded too late. She knew her daughter's loved her and wanted her to be happy. That they would also accept any man she decided to be with. But they wouldn't stand by and let someone harm the other whether it be orally or physically. "Michiko, he didn't mean anything by it."

Inuyasha felt the blade cutting into his throat, he didn't want to strike the girl because she was Kagome's daughter. Hell he wasn't even sure he could get her off without her harming him in the process. The girl was fast, too fast for her own good. He could hear Kagome trying to talk her down. "Fine, but don't forget what I said."

Kouga and the others were dumbfounded at how quick the girl had been to defend her sister or how quick she was period. Sesshomaru was actually smiling, he'd seen the girl move as soon as the hanyou had closed his big mouth. She was faster than most half demons including his half brother. He could understand if a demon suddenly decided to go after this one. She was worthy of any mans attention. 'Even yours?' he asked himself. He refrained from answering.

Kouga glanced up at the yellow haired girl and asked, "Where is she?"

"I left her in the stream," she answered.

"You left her alone?" he stood up planning on heading down. "No, the same lady that took us down there was still there with her."
Kouga knew who she was referring to. Kagome ran up to him, "Do you know where she is, can you take me to her?" He walked out expecting Kagome to follow.

Gercha was watching over the girl as she slept and she began to worry as the girl's skin began to get clammy. She feared she'd stayed in the water too long. She sensed Kouga come in followed by Lady Kagome and the other girl. "Lady Kagome," she bowed to the miko.

Kagome saw her daughter sleeping upon some furs but her face seemed pale. She bent down and felt her forehead, "she's burning up. Mich, go get my bag and hurry."


Kuroyama cursed as he watched the image swirling around the water. Once again his minions had failed to retrieve the girl. And to make matters worse two more demons were added in the picture. He instantly recognised the Lord of the Western lands and knew that he was no easy opponent. Killing him would be almost impossible, it seemed he was once again being denied. He sat and watched while she bathed with another woman and was soon left alone with a female wolf demon. He watched as the girl cried and soon fell asleep. If he could not reach her physically just yet then he would reach her another way.

"Lin, I want you to invade her dreams. Use your power to connect us there." He layed upon his back.

"Are you sure master, I've never tried it upon a human before I'm not sure what effect it will have upon the girl."

"Do it."
