Coyote Tricks: Fox Child

Well somehow being between jobs with time on my hand made writing worse not better so now that I’m gainfully employed again maybe I can get back on track.
This chapter is rated R for violence and adult situations.

Love Lost

“Done,” Yuki said. “Come take a look.”
Toshiro walked around the easel and looked at painting. It still had finishing touches to be done but it was remarkable likeness.
“You like?” Yuki asked.
“Yes,” Toshiro said looking deeply into her eyes. “It’s beautiful, just like you.”
She found her breath taken away as her Kitsune samurai pulled her into his arms and kissed her.

Fedual Era

Shippo had originally grumbled about being left on ‘guard duty’ while the others were out looking for the Oni but in actuality he was having a lot of fun playing with little Hanako. She found all his tricks and illusions funny. Kirara just looked on and purred. Then Hanako showed him the ‘Game Boy’.
“I’ve never heard of a mouse demon that shoots lightning but I like Vulpix,” he said after the latest game with her. “But a six tailed Kitsune should be more powerful than that.”

They all looked up as Yuriko entered the room.
“Hello, Yuriko.”
“Mommy!”
The two fox kits started to move towards her but Kirara jumped in front of them. The fire cat transformed into her giant form and growled at Yuriko.
“Kirara what’s wrong? It’s just Yuriko.” Shippo asked.

“Shippo! Hanako!” The voices of Kagome and Sango came from down the hall.
“Damn!” Yuriko said and putting her hands together summoned her magic.
“Foxfire!” Yuriko yelled and cast her attack at the Kirara. The magical fire couldn’t really harm a fire cat demon but it distracted her enough for Yuriko to jump past her and grab Shippo before leaping out the window.

Kagome and Sango rushed in a second later with Inuyasha and Miroku on their heels. Kirara had shaken off the foxfire attack and was growling at the window. Hanako was wailing in fear. Kagome ran over and picked her up.
“Mommy scared me!” Hanako cried. “She took Shippo!”
Kagome cuddled the crying child and looked at the others.
“Go after her. I’ll look after Hanako.”

Yuriko ran into the courtyard holding a struggling Shippo. Her path out the gate was blocked by the Abbott. He held a sutra scroll in his hand.
“Stop, foul demon and release the child,” he commanded.
Yuriko turned but Inuyasha, Miroku and Sango came up behind her.

“Inuyasha,” Miroku said, “the box is ready. We need to drive him out of Yuriko so I can capture him.”
Yuriko looked at the box in Miroku’s hands and laughed.
“You are too late Monkey Monk,” she said with Yamansu’s voice. Her eyes turned bright red and wave of demonic energy surged around him. Yuriko began transforming before their eyes growing and changing into Yamanasu’s form.
“Yuriko is no more, there is only Yamanasu!”

“Yuriko!” Kit yelled entering the courtyard in time to see the transformation begin.
“What’s happening?” Kagome asked.
“He’s gained enough energy to recreate his body,” Miroku answered.
“Then we need to knock him out of there now,” Inuyasha started forward only to have Miroku stop him.
“It’s too late for that now,” Miroku said gravely.
“Is he right, is Yuriko gone?” Kagome asked tears in her eyes.
“I don’t know,” Miroku said.

“NOO!” Kit yelled and charged the semi-transparent giant bare handed. Yamanasu swatted him away easily sending him crashing into a nearby wall. Sango ran to his side.

“What about your trap?” Inuyasha asked Miroku.
Miroku looked at the small box he held in his hand. “Right now, they are both half way between the spirit and physical forms. If I use it now it will trap him but there will be no hope of rescuing Yuriko. If he completes the transformation he will be physical again, my spirit trap will not work.”

“Hahaha,” Yamanasu laughed holding the struggling child Shippo before him. “Soon I will be whole again and will take my revenge on you all. I’ll start with this one.”
Yamanasu’s finger tightened around the little Kitsune.
“Foxfi…” Shippo started to say but was cut off as the air was squeezed from his lungs.

“Shippo!” Inuyasha cried pulling out his sword. “Damn it, I can’t attack without hitting Shippo!”
Miroku took the lid off the box. “There is only one way.”
He pointed the open end of the box at Yamanasu.
“Spirit Return!” He cried and the glyph inside the box glowed. Spirit energies started pulling at the giant frame of Yamanasu.
“What! NOOO!” The giant cried as he was sucked into the box dropping the Kitsune.
Miroku slammed the lid on the box and sealed it with a sutra. Kagome ran to Shippo’s side.

“Shippo! Sango he is not breathing.”
Kit ripped free of the Demon Exterminator’s grip and bound to Shippo’s side pushing Kagome aside.
“You will not take another one I love!” he said bending over the Kitsune and laying his hands on him. A bright glow surrounded his body and flowed down his arms into the Kitsune.

“What is he doing?” Kagome asked.
“He is transferring his own life energy to Shippo,” Miroku said. No one had noticed that he had become fully human again as they watched Kit. “It’s very dangerous; if Shippo is too far gone they will both die.”

Kit would gladly die at this point if it saved the little Kitsune. He had already lost one life mate today. He would not lose the other he loved as a life mate, if he had any say in it. Shippo’s little body jerked and he sucked in a gasp of air. The little Kitsune started coughing as Kit collapsed next to him.

Foxfur: That’s so sad. I wonder what the others make of the Kit saying he loved Shippo?
