Choukichi awoke to see Shippo sitting next to his bed. Shippo refused to leave his cousin and held his hand until he would wake. He would also be there for him when the whippings were completed.
“Why?”
Shippo asked softly in an angry and agonized voice.
“Because I love you too much Shippo…..”
Shippo snarled.
“You don’t do such a thing to someone you claim to love. You lied to me too. Your Father never knew you turned beta.”
Choukichi winced a bit.
“I couldn’t mate the woman he wanted me to. I tried, but every time I thought of you and I just couldn’t….I failed my family. I am shamed because I cannot fulfill my duty as a man. I deserve to die.”
Shippo pulled Choukichi into his arms.
“You could have talked to me. I would have listened. I really would have if you had given me the chance. Now they will punish you and I will be there to watch you suffer again.”
Choukichi nodded as tears came.
“You know if it wasn’t for Sven you would be dead right now.”
Shippo stated angrily as he felt Choukichi stiffen a bit at that name.
“You will always love him more than me won’t you?”
Shippo sighed and wiped off Choukichi’s tears.
“No, I will love you both the same since my demon claimed you. I still will not mate you until after I have finished my duties with Fuu. Even Sven knows that.’
“I treated you like a Lord Choukichi. You said I was cold, but I am not. You were supposed to be an Alpha so I treated you as one. You cannot go around blaming others for your assumptions. Had I known you were going to be a beta our relationship would be different.”
Choukichi nodded and tried to wipe away his tears.
Lin came in and looked down at his son with sad eyes.
“How is my son?”
Shippo looked up to Lord Lin.
“He is ready.”
Shippo helped Choukichi out of bed and he was to wear nothing except for his hakumas.
“You know how you will be punished Choukichi?”
Choukichi shook his head no.
“You will be flogged and then you will be healed. Then you will dress as a Lady from this point on. I strip you of your Lordship. You will be on constant watch for your own safety for many months until Shippo is able to take you as his mate. Then your fate is in his hands.”
Lin stated firmly.
“Father, will everyone watch my shame? Does anyone else know?”
Lin shook his head no to Choukichi. The only thing known was that now Choukichi was a beta and claimed so therefore he was to be left alone by any other Alpha who wished to claim him for now.
“I am sorry…….I am so sorry for the trouble I caused.”
Lin hugged his son. He loved Choukichi very much as he did all his children. It was hard to be so angry at someone and love them so much.
Letting go Shippo led Choukichi out to where Sven, Sesshoumaru, Inuyasha, and a few others stood waiting. There was a pole in the middle with two cuffs. There Choukichi was placed as the punishment commenced. He received a total of fifty lashes from the training master. It was not unusual for one to receive more since as a demon these would heal as soon as the lash came down. It was indeed a rather lienent punishment.
Choukichi did not cry out once although he did cry. He cried for his selfish act and for hurting those he loved. He thought about how Shippo could have just left him to suffer rather than claimed him. He was indeed lucky to have survived and have people around him that cared including Sven.
When it was done Shippo undid the cuffs and carried the broken man back to his chambers.
“Is all forgiven?”
Choukichi asked softly as Shippo tucked him in and then slid in between him and Sven.
“Yes.”
Silence filled the room for a moment.
“Thank you for saving my life Sven.”
Sven sat up and reached over to Choukichi.
“Come here Choukichi.”
Choukichi moved over for a minute and then was punched right in the jaw.
“DON’T YOU EVER SCARE ME LIKE THAT AGAIN! DON’T YOU KNOW WE LOVE YOU? IDIOT!”
After the jaw incident a teary eyed Sven hugged and kissed Choukichi who wasn’t sure what to think. Shippo just chuckled and pulled both of them down.
“To bed, both of you.”
Shippo growled as he wrapped his arms around Sven to calm him down and then gave Choukichi a kiss. It was time for sleep and they could go over the emotional issues later.
