A/N: Chapter twenty is a long one, but it has a double dose of smuttery. Enjoy!

Of Foxes and Demon Hordes

By Sarga

Kagome sighed in contentment as she enjoyed sleeping in with her lover, revelling in that rare experience that was excess time. Miroku's arms were warm and comforting, she could almost stay there all day, except for one nagging thing that broke in on Kagome's consciousness...

Footsteps. Tiny, pattering footsteps were drawing nearer.

Shippo's aura, clearer than she had ever perceived it before, drew closer. The 'sound' she had mistakenly thought she had heard was actually the thrum of his aura on the ground, 'astral footsteps' so to speak. He was only half way between Kaede's hut and Miroku's... but he was still drawing closer and neither Kagome nor Miroku were in any shape to be able to disguise their recent activities.

“Miroku!” Kagome hissed sharply, fighting with the sheets to stay vertical in her urgency to at least find something to wear.

“Mmmnnnph!” Miroku's emphatic response was punctuated by pulling Kagome back down and wrapping his arms over hers in a restricting embrace. “It is too early to be sitting up,” he muttered against her hair before leaning in to nuzzle her neck.

“Except for little fox demons.” Kagome pursed her lips in annoyance, feeling the child draw nearer.

“Well, we're not foxes, much to our benefit.”

“True,” Kagome calmly replied as she attempted to pry his arms from around her so she could get up and get clothed. “But there is one fox demon awake in the village.” Kagome felt Miroku's arms loosen as he woke up a little. “One who is more than half-way here.”

Miroku sat bolt-upright as full understanding and wakefulness hit him full-on. Finally freed, Kagome scrambled to her feet to try to find something – anything – to wear. Grabbing the only thing within reach, she shrugged into Miroku's inner robe and flung the outer robe at the still-naked monk.

“I hope you know that I'll be taking that back as soon as Shippo is out of our hair.” Miokru smirked as he slipped into his robe, enjoying the sight of Kagome's reddening cheeks.

Shippo reached Miroku's doorway just in time to see the monk tie his robe firmly closed. With wide eyes, the child looked between Miroku and Kagome and back again, his shock apparent.

“Ah... I... Inuyasha and Kagome never came back last night...” Shippo looked from Miroku to Kagome and back again. “Um, so Inuyasha's not around.” Shippo stared at Kagome in confusion. “I thought... Um... I'll be at Kaede's.”

Without waiting for a reply, Shippo turned tail and fled back the way he came.

“That could have gone worse,” Miroku chuckled as he pulled behind Kagome and began to loosen her hastily donned clothing. Kissing her neck, he slid his hands under the cloth and palmed her breast, loving the way she trembled as he caressed the soft flesh.

Miroku's motions were cut short with Kagome's sharp 'eep' and her hurried motions to close his robe over her once more. He didn't know why she was so jumpy, or for that matter, just how she had known Shippo was coming, but it didn't stop the pout from forming on his lips.

“Come now, surely Shippo isn't returning just yet?”

“Inuyasha's coming and he's not happy.”

Kagome didn't know why, but for some reason she could sense the auras of everyone in the village and a bit more beyond. Which is how she knew Inuyasha was approaching, fast and angry.

Sure enough, no sooner had Kagome retied Miroku's robe than the half-demon in question stomped in, all fire and brimstone.

“You!” Inuyasha pointed his finger at Kagome's nose, so close that she went cross-eyed trying to focus on the claw that was mere millimetres from her nose. “Stay the fuck away from me on the new moon! You got that?”

Kagome nodded, a little relieved that Inuyasha's anger wasn't completely directed at her. Some of his anger appeared to be toward himself. Inuyasha's human side was still not letting her go without a fight, a fight that the half-demon himself didn't seem to want to participate in for once.

“And you...” Inuyasha turned on his heel to face a bedraggled Miroku, a slight flare of his nostrils distracting whatever admonishment he had on the tip of his tongue. Turning away just as quickly, Inuyasha muttered under his breath just barely loudly enough for both humans to hear before stomping out the door. “Lucky bastard...”

“Uh... that was...” Kagome glanced sideways at Miroku as she shuffled toward her skirt and crumpled shirt.

“Unexpected?”

Kagome nodded, slipping off the robe and throwing it at the monk who was shifting closer when he thought she wasn't looking. Pulling on her skirt, Kagome was half-dressed by the time Miroku untangled himself from the mass of cloth. With a disappointed glance, Miroku stripped off his outer robe and followed Kagome's lead by getting dressed in the proper order.

Looks like Miroku would have to wait until dark for another round...

Kagome and Miroku trudged along behind 'Commandante Inuyasha' (as Kagome had secretly nicknamed him) while the half demon set an outrageous pace. With only a handful of shards left, Inuyasha had demanded they ask Koga for his shards – or more accurately, he had demanded they 'beat the shards out of the puny wolf shit' – so they had set out shortly after the pair had made an appearance at Kaede's.

Still in a mood, Inuyasha set his merciless pace that had the two humans huffing and puffing to keep up. Desperately missing Kirara, who had been too melancholy with grief to force into a beast-of-burden role, Kagome idly wondered if Hachi could be convinced to transport them part of the way.

It was early evening when Kagome felt the tingle of something vaguely familiar on the edge of her senses. All day she had been hyper-aware of every human, demon, animal and plant within range of her senses, senses that she had yet to stretch to their fullest extent. Now, the feeling was different. Unlike the steady dull pulsing of the forest plant-life, this aura was baser, almost like it was even less animate than the trees themselves. At the same time, its aura had staccato undulations almost as frantic as the the small forest creatures that fled from every flickering shadow. Unlike the ebb of life from a dying animal, the aura was steady. Unlike the aura of a plant, this was lively. It baffled the priestess.

“Inuyasha... Do you sense anything in that direction?” Kagome asked tentatively. She was curious as to what could be the cause of the unfamiliar aura and even though it felt safe enough, it was still a new experience. It wouldn't do to walk into the masked aura of a feral demon because it 'felt fine'.

“Nuh-uh, we're not stopping for that!” Inuyasha replied tartly, sending shiver of annoyance down Kagome's spine. He hadn't answered her question and he had outright denied her perceived request... whatever it was a request for.

“Darn it, Inuyasha! I asked what it was, not whether we'd go to it! Now tell me what it is!”

“Eh?” Inuyasha looked back at Kagome, thinking he might have made a mistake. From the look of the girl, he belatedly realized it might just be an 'Inuyasha-shaped-hole-in-the-ground' type of mistake. Stealthily eyeing the ground for sharp objects to avoid, he carefully worded his reply. “It's a hotspring, wench.” Prepared for an intimate embrace with the ground, Inuyasha was stunned by Kagome's simple, response.

“Ah, that's what it is.”

Distractedly Kagome probed further outward looking for similar auras. There was one not too far ahead, almost directly on their current path.

“We'll stop at the one just ahead then,” Kagome offered amiably as she expanded her knowledge of auras.

Relieved that he had narrowly averted disaster, Inuyasha let this one slide. After all, it was almost dark. His concession had nothing at all to do with his narrow brush with a hole in the ground.

Nope. Nothing at all.

Miroku voice was choked as he lay halfway in the water. Kagome had her mouth wrapped sweetly around his hardened flesh and it was all he could do to breathe, let alone compliment her with words.

Kagome slipped one hand around his throbbing flesh as she bobbed in time with the soft pulse of the nearby trees' auras. The pace had Miroku on edge, unable to cum but too stimulated to be anything but putty in Kagome's hands.

Equally overwhelmed – although with the perception of countless auras rather than physical stimulation – Kagome revelled in the feel of her lover. His body was hard, weeping with joy from her touch. His aura was soft, flowing around her own, meshing with that of the spring in an expanding and contracting throb that was in time with his excited heartbeat.

Kagome could feel an underlying thrum in Miroku's aura, black-violet streaks throughout his underlying dark-purple tone. The streaks would come together as she stroked, an aural indication of his culminating pleasure. It was like a manual, every darting lick of her tongue almost experimentally testing his reaction.

With a salivating mouth, Kagome took him deep, loving the way his aura hummed in joy at the action. He was close and she would drag him – all of him – over the edge.

Undulating her tongue, Kagome pulled up Miroku's shaft and revelled at the feel of his thick length swelling with the nearness of his orgasm. In the 'piece de resistance', Kagome hummed a monotone tune that had Miroku exploding in her mouth. Sucking every last drop from his furiously throbbing head, the priestess made sure he rode every last wave of orgasm to the farthest edge.

Spent, Miroku leaned heavily on the rock at his back, sinking his lower body down under the soothing warm waters and wrapping his sex-weakened arms around his personal goddess. Letting her shift until she was seated with her back to his chest, Miroku kissed her bare shoulder.

“You are... amazing,” Miroku whispered in sincerity. Rarely had he been rendered speechless by a lover, but Kagome seemed to be breaking every part of him he thought had been so defined.

Kagome hummed in contentment as she shared a relaxing bath with her lover. It had been a long half-day's travel that day and would be an even longer day come morning. For now, they could forget all that and just... be.

It was late afternoon, the day was winding close to the end and Miroku couldn't be more grateful. His experience with Kagome the previous night had left him boneless in an amazingly refreshing way, but it did nothing for the raging hard-on he was left with in the morning and had been sporting off and on ever since. He needed Kagome desperately and was almost ready to fake an injury to get her within groping range...

No need, she had wandered of her own accord.

Kagome's yelp of indignation was followed by a giggle as she did a little groping of her own, squeezing his ass appreciatively. Not to be outdone, Miroku double-fisted, hauling her flush with his renewed hard-on. Kagome pressed her breasts against Miroku's chest suggestively, teasingly trailing her finger from his earlobe to his jaw until he shivered under her touch.

Inuyasha grumbled but didn't say anything overt, instead opting to focus on the road ahead. Yup, that was one well-packed dirt road. All full of rocks and everything!

Miroku leaned forward to kiss Kagome on the forehead. She was so in tune with his pleasure that she was shivering in time with his own pleasurable reaction...

Wait... Kagome wasn't shivering, she was shaking. In fear.

Kagome's eyes were wide as she felt a shift on the edge of her perception. There were thousands – perhaps thousands upon thousands – of angry, slavering demons. And they were getting closer.

Pushing away from Miroku, all humour lost, Kagome struggled to put to words the feeling of hostile demonic energies crawling over her skin with inhuman feelers.

“Demons. Thousands of them,” Kagome gasped, groping blindly for her bow and arrows. Feeling the weapon in her hands, some of her panic ebbed. Keeping their relative position in mind, she got her bearings just as Inuyasha caught the scent of them on the wind.

“Shit, this is bad. Get the fuck behind me and stay there!” Inuyasha barked out orders, hauling out Tetsusaiga to defend the two holy humans.

The roar of their demonic auras striking against the earth was thunderous to Kagome's perception. White astral noise was slowly being overshadowed by physical nose. Hundreds of wing-beats and thousands of footsteps became audible to more than just the priestess. The light of the late afternoon sun faded to near black as the swarm of bodies emerged from the forest to the west.

Inuyasha stood on the balls of his feet, ready to swing down attack after deadly attack to wipe out a hundred demons at a time.

Kagome forced herself to breathe evenly as she held her first arrow steady, waiting for the oncoming wave of attackers to step or fly within range.

Miroku pulled the beads from the wind tunnel and kept his fist clenched as he waited for the perfect moment to unleash his ultimate attack...

A/N: This ends on kind of a cliff-hanger, but that'll be dealt with in the next chapter, promise. :P
