Dream of Acceptance

AN: I'd like to thank everyone for the reviews. I think I'm going to keep it a Rin/Hiei pairing in the end. I already got everything worked out in my mind how I want it to go. To change at this late in the story would really burn my brain cells. And I'm a natural blonde so I gotta be careful. I think after spending centuries with both Kouga and Naoko, Rin's personality would only let her see them as members of her family not a love interest. If she had my personality NO, cause I'd rape both of them. Sorry if this disappoints anyone.

Running Away


Rin was laying on her bed when she heard the door open. She knew it was her Lord without turning around. He stepped to the side of the bed looking down at her.

"Rin, I want you to consider Naoko's offer."

"No."

"He is my second in command, very acceptable, and he cares for you. He would make a fine mate for you. Having you claimed would help with the situation with Kado. He may cease his attempts to take you, if you are claimed by another." He tried to reason with her.

"I don't care."

"Don't be foolish Rin. The fire youkai will never take you as his mate, he stated as much when he backed off. I am sorry if that hurts you. Be reasonable for once, take Naoko as your mate." He took a deep breath. "If need be I will order you to do so."

She snapped her head around. "And if I still don't."

"You know the punishment for those that disobey me. I will leave you now." He walked out the room. He hoped he wasn't pushing too hard. Most likely the girl would see through his threat. Anyone who disobeyed him was banished from his lands. Of course he'd never send her away. She knew that but he wanted her to be safe.

Rin placed her head back down. Naoko or banishment. Would her lord really send her away if she chose not to mate with his second in command? Yes, he would. He didn't show mercy to anyone that went against him. Of course she'd never gone against his wishes before. Yet could she give in and be with someone she wasn't in love with? No, it would crush her. She sat on her bed and wondered what to do. Leave she would leave. Problem solved.

Ayame came in hours later to bring her dinner. She tried talking to her but all she got was silence. She left the tray on the nightstand and walked out. Even Shizuru came in to check on her, Rin was asleep this time.

Rin woke up to find that night had fallen and everything was quiet. She got out of bed and got dressed. She put on some thick cotton pants and a thick sweater, she grabbed her cloak also. She looked to see the dinner Ayame sent her was still there. She wrapped the apple and bread up in the cloth napkin. She took a few bites of the meat and headed out the door.

Glancing both ways to make sure no one was moving about she headed down the hall. At the end of a hall sat a statue of a bird, she pulled on the beak. The stone began to move to reveal a path, known only to the family it led out into the back of the estates. There was no way to close it from inside, so she had to leave it open. By the time they woke up it would be too late. She lit the torch that was hanging on the wall. She would need it, so she pulled it off the wall. She quickly made her way through the tunnel. A sigh escaped her, when she spotted the exit. She hit the switch and it opened.

The night air hit her causing her to gasp. It was still snowing slightly and it was cold. She closed the door behind her, not wanting to leave it open and endanger those inside. She decided to go east, wouldn't do well to walk out by the front gate, then the guards would see her. The snow crunched under her feet as she ran, she didn't stop running until she hit the edge of the estate. Giving one quick glance back she left.

Six hours later Yusuke got up needing to take a serious piss. He walked out the door and paused. He felt a cold draft from somewhere. He turned around and came face to face with the damn statue. "Fuck!" He screamed loud enough to wake up several people.

Kurama came out in just his boxers. "What is it Yusuke?"

"I think I pissed my pants thats what. What the hell is that thing?"

Kurama looked over at the statue, "I looks like a secret passage of some sort. Someone may have sneaked inside, we need to wake the others now."

Several minutes later, Kuronue and Kagome was standing out in the hall. Hiei, Kuwabara and Kouga joined them, all looking at the stone bird. Sesshoumaru and Ayame came walking up with Kurama.

"Which one of you opened it?" Sesshoumaru asked.

"It was open when I got up to take a leak, maybe someone came in during the night."

"Impossible the only ones that know of its existence besides me is Ayame and Ri..." He turned on his heels and ran for her door. He swung it open to find the room cold and empty.

Ayame was standing behind him, "She's gone, why would she leave?"

"It is my doing." He turned around and went back to the statue. He closed it, he turned to find his mate right in his face.

"What the hell did you do?"

"Gave her an option. She took me at my word."

"What option was that dear?" She fisted her hands at her sides.

"Accept Naoko or banishment." The fist popped him in the mouth. "I guess I deserve that."

"Damn right, now go find her."

Rin could no longer feel her feet but dawn was slowly approaching. She was tired and her thighs were going numb as well. She spotted a cave in the distance. With any luck it was empty, she approached it cautiously. Her feet felt like blocks of ice as she stepped forward.

Her heart stopped when she heard growling. She took a step back, so much for finding shelter. Several wolves came forward at smelling the intruder. She turned and took off running. Pain shot up her legs as she ran, her numb limbs protested. The wolves were growling as they came closer. Her heart beat wildly, she didn't wanna be killed by wolves again. One jumped on her back knocking her down. She felt her chest land on the ground. The wolf grabbed ahold of her long hair pulling on it.

It was suddenly knocked aside taking a few strands of her hair with it. "Ouch." She heard the others yelping behind her. She felt arms grabbing her waist, pulling her up against a warm chest. Hiei picked her up and walked into the cave the wolves were kind enough to vacate. He needed to get her warm.

He sat inside bringing her into his lap. Rin felt a warm hand taking off her shoes and rubbing her feet. The circulation was slowly coming back into her limbs. He worked his way up her legs, raising his own temperature, letting the heat warm her. She snuggled against his chest wanting to sleep.

His hand came up to stroke her face. He looked down at the woman no taller than himself. Her long dark hair fell to her waist, his fingers came up to run through the thick mass. She lifted her face up to look at him, he gazed down. He suddenly realized he loved her. He took in every line of her face. The large brown eyes, the small nose to her lush pink lips. He brought his mouth down to place a light kiss over hers.

Rin returned the kiss, her hand reached up to cup his neck. She pulled him to her, she brought her tongue out to lick his lips. He opened his mouth for her, letting her take control. They kissed for several minutes before he pulled back, he lowered his head to her neck licking the warm flesh. Rin felt that heat pool between her legs as he licked and sucked on her neck. She jumped in his arms when she felt him sink his teeth into her tender flesh. She was about to ask him why did he have to go and bite her; instead he placed his wrist to her mouth. She felt something warm run over her teeth and tongue. It quickly filled her mouth and she had no choice but to swallow. It tasted nasty, it left a metallic after taste on her tongue.

"Gross," She shoved his hand away. "Why did you do that?"

"Hn." He watched as his mark closed up on her neck, he was pleased that even with her healing abilities it still left the marks. "You now belong to me. They are coming." He put her shoes back on and lifted her up.

As soon as they exited the cave Sesshoumaru showed up along with Naoko. Rin felt the arms holding her tighten as they approached.

"You shouldn't have ran Rin." Sesshoumaru stopped in front of the girl, he looked down at her. "I see. It is out of my hands."

"You little son a bitch." Naoko stepped forward, an angry look on his face. "What kind of coward are you? Deny me the right to fight for her and claim her behind my back."

"I did no such thing."

"Like hell you didn't. I will not let the insult slide. You owe me, you will meet me in battle. I will kill you for this."

"Fine. You will have your fight but it will wait until tomorrow."

"Don't think so, we will stand off as soon as we get back."

Hiei looked at Sesshoumaru. "If we are to fight then it will be a fair fight, it will have to wait until tomorrow."

Sesshoumaru nodded his head. "Very well, take her back to the estate we will follow behind you." The fire youkai left with Rin in his arms.

"Why give him a day to run?"

"He will not run. If he wanted to be dishonorable he could have taken you up on your offer. He drank from Rin when he marked her, theres a good chance her blood has the same effect as Kado's. If he were to fight you anytime soon, he would have a great advantage. Hence he insisted on the wait. I believe he didn't accept the first challenge because he was in denail."

"And now?"

"He accepted something that I had to centuries ago."

"What's that?"

Sesshoumaru walked off but left his words. "That he loved her."
