Betrayal

Betrayal

Kurama watched over his friend until he woke up. He was confused at first seeing the red head sitting in front of him. He merely stared at him.

"Glad to have you back, partner."

"Holy shit, is that you fox?"

For the next few hours he informed Koronue of what happened. How he was presumed dead and Hiei finding both pieces of the stone. Of all the years that had passed, of Kurama having to seek refuge in the human world. He told Koronue of his helping out Yusuke. Of Hiei. Koronue listened intently.

"You've been through a lot since I've been gone. Mind if I ask where the pendant is?"

"It is whole again and I plan on destroying it." Kurama said. He saw his friend flinch at the hatred in his voice.

"No, I want it."

"You don't understand," Kurama didn't know how to tell his friend that the girl had faked her own death and was still alive somehow.

"Understand what, she gave it to me. It is all I have left. It also saved my life, I want it back."

"That is precisely why you will not get it back. Better yet I should go give it back to her." Kurama let it slip without thinking.

"What did you just say?" Koronue looked at him.

"Koronue, I'm not sure how to tell you this." He told his friend of his suspicions.

"I don't believe you, if she was alive she wouldn't have hid herself from me."

"Why? Did she ever tell you she had feelings for you? She used you, think about it. We both saw her relationship with the hanyou. He had chosen that dead woman over her. She used you to get back at him. You were just lucky that the pendant happened to be what it was. And I assure you, you aren't the only man she has played. There are some even in this time." His thoughts went back to the foolish boy named Hojo. He left out the fact that the girl had been ready to sleep with him as well. "If you don't believe me then when you are well enough I will take you to see for yourself. I do not lie. It has been over five hundred years and she still walks. We both know how many years she had to find you if she cared."

"Very well, give me the pendant. If what you say is true then I will give it back to her myself."

Kagome was walking outside, gramps had asked her to go to the storage shed to fetch a box. It had been almost a week since she'd given Hiei the pendant. The fire demon hadn't returned to tell her anything nor had she heard anything. A painful ache was in her heart. As much as it would make her happy to know he was alive and well, it would change nothing. Neither man loved her. And in different ways she loved them both.

She rummaged through the many boxes looking for the one he wanted it. She gave up, it just wasn't in here. She walked out the shed yelling, "I can't find it gramps." Her heart dropped at seeing Koronue and Youko standing there looking at her. It had worked, he was back. She wanted to throw herself into his arms but the look on his face stopped her.

His matched Youko's, anger and bitterness filled his eyes. She spoke, "Koronue." Did he blame her for his death?

"You are alive. I didn't want to believe it, you are suppose to be dead."

She stopped at his words. Why did he sound so mad at finding her alive? Secretly she'd been hoping he'd be happy to find her alive and well. He seemed to hate her as much as Youko/Shuichi. Had Shuichi told him of their relationship? Was that why he was so angry. She felt guilt at that thought.

He saw the guilty look on her face. So it all was true. He took the pendant and threw it at her feet. "Take it back, I want nothing to do with you."

He leapt off and Youko followed him. She bent down and started to cry when she picked up the pendant.
