The Light in My Darkness

Sesshomaru had smelled the lie the second it had left the boy's lips and prepared himself to interfere if needed, but he had a hunch as to what was going on and knew deep down that the taijiya would never hurt Rin. So he simply stayed hidden, aura masked, and watched. Rin's scent kept changing, which Sesshomaru found a bit disturbing. From fear, hurt, anger, to aroused, Rin finally settled. That last one hit him hard and he decided to go back into the forest for a while. Not that it bothered him but he knew that Rin would consider this an invasion of her privacy, something that she did value on occasion. They would have to discuss her future in length when he went to see her this evening. It had occurred to him that Rin might want to stay in the village and become a wife and mother but Sesshomaru had hoped that when the time came, she would want to travel with him again. Many who knew of their bond had come to the conclusion that he meant to mate her when she was old enough but he had found that idea appalling. His feelings for her were no more that that of a companion or of a father to a daughter. When her sixteenth birthday had come and gone without a youkai mating ceremony, many of those rumours disapeared. 

"Sesshomaru-sama? Sesshomaru-sama?"

Sesshomaru heard the kappa calling him but as usual chose to ignore him and continued walking into the forest. That was when he felt it. A burst of youki. Having been masked very well, he almost missed it but few were powerful enough to decieve him. He would deal with it, as it could be a potential threat to Rin, then he would move on. After following the scent a bit deeper into the forest, Sesshomaru landed in an empty clearing. He could feel the demonic presence and let out a growl of irritation when the demon stayed hidden. Taking a whiff to decifer where the demon was located he caught a trace of something else. Human. "Hn. Hanyou coward." He raised his right hand infront of his chest and prepared to release his poisen whip as his clawes glowed green with poision. Suddenly a light flew out of the shadows to land at his feet. Keeping his senses alert to anything that might move he crouched low to pick it up in his opposite hand. It was a small round crystal with the light glowing from the center. Something about it felt familiar but he couldn't quite place it. One thing he did know, the crystal was drawing on his youki, becoming brighter with every second it touched his skin. "Trying to steal my demonic energy will not save you from death." Again there was no answer. Bored, Sesshomaru once again raised his hand to attack but the intruder had already lept out of the shadows, coming to land behind him. Tuning quickly to take the Hanyou's head off, he felt a blade slice into his thigh and he slowed. Had his attackers intention been his demise, he woud have been killed just then. Instead, he had come out of it with a scratch. Though how Sesshomaru had managed to end up in a position of disadvantage, he didn't know. He hadn't even felt the thing move. 

Pulling his whip back, he drew Bakusaiga. "Show yourself or you will be dead before drawing your next breath." He threw the now brightly glowing crystal into the shadows and what he saw had his hands shaking and Bakusaiga fell to the ground as he stared int the ocean blue of eyes that he had thought to never see again. 

"Hello Sesshomaru."

"Sakura..."
