Chapter 2

Chapter 2

A/N: I promised to finish this in a week, and I will hold strong! Hopefully. XD. Even though I’m not getting many hits, and no reviews, I still love this story to death! Also, I thought about it, and I’m making Artemis 35 so it all fits into place! Ok, Hiei, Kurama, and Yusuke will make a few appearances in this story, just not Kuwabara, because I dislike him with a passion.

Oh, and I changed my mind on the pairings. And this is a romance fic, so I won’t write most of the fight scenes, only a few. I want to try to focus on the important events. Sorry if that bothers you, I’m just not good at fighting scenes.

“Called away?” Kurama asked suspiciously as he watched his lover pack from the doorway to the bedroom. “By the team?”

Artemis sighed and looked to the fox. “No. It is a family issue that I must attend to. I apologize.” He then looked down at his bag, frowning. “I do not know when I will be back and for that I also apologize.” He smiled when he felt Kurama come up behind him to envelop him in a hug.

“I love you,” The older man whispered. “I will wait for you. You aren’t talking about years, right?”

Frustrated, Artemis turned in the red haired mans arms. “I do not know,” He said, wrapping his own arms around his lovers neck, “I will miss you…I love you too. So much.” He tilted his head back and stood on his toes to place a gentle kiss on the other mans lips.

“So, you’re gay?”

Both men parted each other’s grip hastily and look at Beckett, who was in the doorway, a frown on his face. Artemis blushed and cleared his throat. “I…you see…”

The blonde glared and march over to his brother, punching him lightly on the arm. “That’s for not trusting me! You’re my fucking family. I don’t give a shit what you are as long as you tell me, asshole!”

Artemis stood shocked for a second before pulling his younger brother in for a hug. “God, I’m so relieved.” He whispered before pulling away and smacking him in the back of the head. “That was for cussing. You know mum hates it!”

Beckett rolled his eyes. “Come on, Myles and Elise are ready to go.”

Kurama gave Artemis a strange look, but decided against asking. Obviously it was something important to Artemis and that was all he needed to know. “Have a safe trip.” He said softly, giving one last kiss. “What do I tell Quantico?”

“I have already spoken to them.” Artemis blushed. “I am taking my vacation days.” With that, Artemis let Beckett lead him, Myles, and Elise to where Miko-sama was waiting in the woods.

“Is everyone ready?” She asked as Aneko took her spot next to the youngest Fowl. Once she was satisfied, she nodded and turned away. He delicate hand rose into the air and a black portal opened before them. “Go. This portal will lead you to the stadium. You must make haste, and tell no one that it was I who sent you. You are merely mercenaries and Elise is your leader.”

“Question.” Artemis spoke. “I didn’t know that Yusuke was a demon. I was told he was human.”

“Yusuke is a half demon.” Miko-sama corrected. “Demon blood cannot be over powered by human blood. Because of this, the child of a half demon and human will always be a half demon. However, the child of a half demon and demon will lose its human half completely.” She glared at him. “Satisfied?”

“Never.” Artemis said in a smug voice before stepping through the portal, followed by his brothers, Aneko, and lastly, Elise. They were met by a demon on the other side, which appeared to be that of a feline nature.

“This is Kirara.” Aneko spoke, walking to the humanoid cat demon. “She was a pet of my ancestors and was graced with this form by Miko-sama.” Aneko smiled and hugged the feline friend. “It is always a pleasure.”

Kirara hugged her friend in return and smiled at the others after they parted. “The Fowl siblings and Yusuke’s daughter. You will make a perfect team.” She pushed a stray lock of blonde hair behind her ear. “I am to be your sixth. In case of injury. I will also be training you. Please, follow me.”

As they walked, a thought struck Artemis. “You ancestors,” He spoke softly to Aneko, “They were the demon slayer and monk, weren’t they?”

Aneko nodded. “Yes. But no one here can know that, or the fact that I, myself, am a demon slayer.”

The man nodded and walked in silence, trying to think. “Kirara-sama,” Once he had her attention, he continued. “Are you familiar with elemental magic?” At her nod he smiled. “Can fairy magic be used to create elemental magic?”

She seemed to ponder it. “Yes. I have known many fairies to use elemental magic. I’m assuming you are the boy with the fairy magic inside you then?”

“Your assumptions are correct.” Artemis ignored the hungry stares of the many demons around him as they walked down the Maikia street. There were many different types of demons surrounding them, most could not be identified as a single type. It appeared that they were in some type of market place. In the distance, Artemis could see a giant stadium reaching up into the sky. It seemed as if the demons were not expecting to see humans enter the tournament.

A group started to walk towards them, and Artemis instantly recognized the demons. “Kirara,” Sesshoumaru drawled in a bored tone. “who are these…humans?”

The young cat demon – young in demon years anyway – smiled at her long time friends. “Hey guys!” She spoke in her native tongue, not knowing it would give her no privacy, “This is the team I’ve put together to beat your asses. And they’re not all human! One has fairy magic, and another is a half demon. Yusuke Urameshi’s daughter.”

“Hm.” Sesshoumaru looked over the group with sharp eyes before returning his gaze to the cat, “And why, pretell, did you feel the need to invite them to a demons tournament?”

“Well,” Kirara seemed to think about it, “They were there and I was bored.” She then turned to look at Inuyasha, who was sulking behind his brother. “How is Miko-sama?”

The half demon froze, then glared at the cat. “Keh. How the hell should I know? And even if I did know, I don’t fucking care.” He growled, then turned around, “I’ll be in the hotel room if you guys need me. We still have to find a sixth.” He reminded them before storming off.
Kirara sighed. “He still can’t get over her, huh?”

“Inuyasha has a way of letting his human emotions rule over him. You will not see this Sesshoumaru ever falling in love.” The stoic demon said with a roll of the eyes. “Make sure your humans do not become demon food.” He warned before leading his team away.

“Sorry about that. Nothing too serious. Come on, let’s go check into the hotel.” Kirara said, one of her fox ears twitching nervously. “No one get nabbed by a hungry demon, alrighty?”

Artemis laid awake in the bed, staring at the ceiling. So far, he had been here for over a month now. Kirara had taught him to do a few things with his magic that had impressed him. For instance, he could create any type of element in the form of any type of weapon. It had taken a lot of magic out of him and soon he would need to go replenish his sources back on earth. He sighed, standing from his bed, and walked to the window sill. Outside, he could see the three Maikia moons. One red, one blue, the last green. Even though they were all in crescent shaped, the forest was still illuminated beautifully. He sighed when he found ruby eyes looking at him from a tree. “Hiei, is that you?”

The being stepped forward from the shadows and revealed himself as the fire/ice apparition. “The fox sent me to look for you.” The small demon admitted.

Artemis sighed once more and opened his window. He was not at all surprised When Hiei appeared sitting on his bed. “You shouldn’t have come here. I could get in trouble.” He sounded like a father reprimanding a child.

Scoffing, Hiei spoke quietly, “I figured you would want me to send a message back for you.”

After thinking for a second, Artemis pulled out a piece of paper and a pen and sat at his desk, writing the letter he would have Hiei bring back. After the demon left again, he sighed. He missed his fox. He hadn’t gone more than a week without him before. It was hard, going without the person you loved. Artemis only hoped it would get better, and fast. A yawn tore through his throat and he finally laid back in his bed, going to sleep.

They awoke before the deep purple moon was in the sky. Each one had gotten used to this. Kirara led the rag tag group into the woods and once they were all seated, she began. “Today,” She spoke, twirling fire in her hands, “we will slip into two teams. Boy vs. girls. The rules are simple. You have to use you special abilities. Beckett, Myles, this means your ki. Remember what Elise and I taught you?”

Beckett was first to be able to use is spirit energy. It was the first time ever he had been able to do something before his twin. The blonde smiled and pulled his hair out of its bun; he then closed his eyes and weaved the energy between his fingers. After a moment, a whip of glowing green energy appeared. “Like this?”

Kirara nodded. “Very good Beckett. Myles?”

The teen shrugged casually. It was harder for him to call upon his energy. It took a full minute for the red glow to appeared at his finger tips. “Satisfied?” He growled.

“Hardly. And Artemis? How is your magic doing?” The cat asked, turning to the eldest son.

“Low. I’ll have to go back to the human world tomorrow during the full moon.” He commented with closed eyes. After a moment, a ball of water appeared in his hands. However, the strain was making him sweat and pant.

They trained for a few hours. Beckett using his whip, Myles throwing knives packed with energy that exploded on contact, and Artemis using his water magic. The girls won. They were well trained and were not easily hit with any type of weapon. It was Aneko that took down the twins, using her sword to draw them in close and making their weapons unusable. However, it took a joint effort to beat Artemis, as his magic would heal his wounds automatically. He only was defeated after the magic dried up. He was escorted by Aneko to the human realm after their battle.

“Terra.” He breathed. He was greeted by friendly faces of fairies all danced around him. Aneko stuck closely to his side. “Doodah Day.” Artemis smiled as he spotted the pixie. “How is Holly?”

The pixie and Holly had been wed for 10 years now. “She’s great! She’s also around here somewhere. Who is your lady friend?”

“A friend of the people. She is my escort. Aneko, this is Doodah Day.” Artemis introduced.

The woman nodded to the fairy a bit nervously. “How do you do?” She said in a shaky voice. “Artemis, you have to hurry. We need to get back to Maikia.”

“Yes, of course. Excuse us.” He nodded to his friend and walked to the old oak tree. After finding an acorn his sighed. “Alright. Let’s go. We have to be at least 100 miles away before I can plant it again.”

The demon slayer nodded and opened a portal, then followed Artemis through. Immediately, he recognized the area; the back yard of Kurama’s mothers house. It was the perfect place. He bent down slowly and said his rites. After a moment, he groaned as the magic came back to him full force, running through his veins and making is body throb and buzz with power. He fell to his knees and hugged himself. “Thank you for this gift,” He breathe, blue sparks falling from his hair and dancing around his body. “I will use it well.”

The stadium was deafening around them. Cries of ‘kill the humans!’ were heard from every corner. “Don’t worry,” Kirara said quietly. “You are entered in the tournament. I would be against the rules if anyone not fighting tried to kill you. Besides, I’m positive you would be able to beat them anyway.” She paused and looked around the group. “Artemis, you are the smartest therefore you are the team leader. Your team name is Team Fowl.”

Artemis nodded. “Your terms are acceptable.”

“Alright. The team across the arena is Team Ookami. They are a pack of wolf demons. Their leader is a female by the name of Phoebe. She is a ruthless killer. Do not underestimate her because she is a female.” Kirara paused, looking at the demon across from her. “She also loves the taste of human meat.”

Nodding, the eldest Fowl stepped forward into the arena. He looked around him and was surprised to find Miko-sama sitting in the stands. Next to her, the spirit detectives and Minerva. He was shocked to say the least, but he merely nodded to them and turned to the judge. Once Phoebe was opposite side, the man judge nodded and spoke into the mike.

“Demons of all ages, welcome to the first round of the Usagi Tournament! The first battle will be between the humans and half demon of Team Fowl, and the wolf demons of Team Ookami!” Once the judge mentioned the wolf demons, the crowd erupted into cheers. “I will flip a coin. Team Ookami will call heads of tails. If right, they get to decide what type of battle it will be. If they call it wrong, Team Fowl will decide. Ready?” The judge flipped the coin and it flew high into the air.

“Tails.” The female wolf growled, lashing her tail back and forth. The call was right. The demon smirked smugly. “One on one battles will be fine. Fight to the death. First team to win three fights wins.”

There was a pause as the judge listened to his mike. “Alright. Those terms will stand!” Quickly the judge stepped back. “Will you be the first to fight?”

There was something that didn’t set well with Artemis about hitting a female, much less killing one. “No, I’ll have Elise battle first.” He turned to look at the young woman, and she nodded, climbing onto the stage.

“I’ll happily kill this filthy half breed.” The wolf woman growled, flexing her claws.

Elise watching Artemis leave and stood, glaring at the wolf. She took a fighter’s stance perfectly, her bare feet grounding onto the cool tiled arena. She took a calming breathe and waiting for the command to attack.

“Alright. Round one. Phoebe from Team Ookami vs. Elise of Team Fowl. Ready?” The judge waited for both parties to nod and called out over the roar of the crowd, “Fight!”

Immediately, the wolf sprang forward, faster than a normal human could see, seeking to land her claws around Elise’s throat. The half demon side stepped and charge her palms full of energy. She dodge attack after attack, never making one of her own. Finally, she called forth her sword and slashed, miss by mere inches; she did manage to cut off a lock of hair.

The wolf jumped back quickly on the balls of her feet. “How dare you,” she growled lowly in her throat. “I will gut you for that.”

“Bring it, bitch,” Elise smirked, drawing back her hands to make a bow.

The demon put up a good fight. By the end of the battle, Elise’s arm was broken, and her ribs were bruised. They won the first fight, lost the next two, then one the last two, sending them into the next round. By the end of the day, Artemis was the only one left un injured due to his fairy magic.

“You guys were terrible.” Kirara groaned. “You lost two fights!” She was glaring at the twins. “I can’t believe it. Knocked out of the ring, both of you – ”

“Actually,” Beckett interrupted, “Myles jumped out of the ring on his own free will.”

“I was about to die!” The youngest Fowl growled, holding his bleeding ribs. “Little help, Artemis?”

The eldest sighed and, once they were back to the hotel, he put his hands over Myles’ chest. “Heal,” He whispered, calling forth his magic. Blue sparks ran down his finger tips and into Myles’ body, making the younger gasp at the sensation. Soon, all his wounds were healed. Artemis repeated this action on everyone but Elise, who refused.

“I am a half demon. These wounds will be gone by the time I go to bed.” She scoffed.

“Elise,” Myles spoke in a serious voice. It was perhaps the first time he ever had to her. “Can I talk to you in private for a minute?”

She rolled her eyes. “You gonna hit on me?”

The youngest Fowl shook his head, “No…It’s important.”

Confused, she allowed the man to lead her into her room. “What is this about?” She asked when he turned around, his head down. “Myles, you ok?” Suddenly, she gasped as he enveloped her in a tight hug. “You creep! Let go!” she yelled, struggling until she felt something wet on her shoulder. “Are you…crying?”

“She pinned you…her claws were around your throat…I thought you were going to die…” Myles said, pulling away and looking into her eyes. “That’s why I lost my fight. I couldn’t stop seeing that image.”

“Oh, Myles…” Elise sighed, wrapping her arms around his neck. “I thought you were just some jerk… but you kinda do care, don’t you?”

The older boy gulped. “I don’t know…I’ve never felt this way before…” He leaned down and placed his lips gently on the girls, making her sigh.

“Elise?”

The two jumped apart as Yusuke called outside the door. “Come in Papa!”

He, along with Minerva, appeared in the doorway, both looking concerned, but oddly proud. “I hope we weren’t interrupting anything?” Minerva asked, giving Myles a glare.

Once again, the Fowl was indifferent. “Nope. I’ll see you Elise.” Shrugged and moved back into the main hotel room where everyone had gathered, including the spirit detectives. “Should have figured you would be a spirit detective.” He commented to Kurama, sitting next to him on the couch. “You felt…off.”

The fox rolled his eyes. “Yes, and I should have known you would be as smart as Artemis.”

Said ebony haired boy yawned rather loudly. “Alright guys, healing everyone took it out of me. I’m going to bed.”

“I’ll escort you.” Kurama said, standing you, “Shall we?”

Once alone in the hallway, Kurama was surprised when Artemis grabbed him and placed a fiery kiss on his lips. Their tongues fought one and another for a minute before they pulled away, gasping for breath. “I’m not tired.” Artemis said huskily. “I’ve missed you.”

A/N: Sorry there was no sex scene. I might open the next chapter with one. Um…I think that’s all. Reviews are always welcome. I’m very sleepy right now, so I’m going to wait until tomorrow morning to work on the next chapter. Oh, and I will be updating A Wolf’s Duty later this week.
