After the Jewel was Destroyed
On the other Side
“Kagome! Time to get up!”
“I’m already up Mom!”
Kagome was no longer the 18 year old girl who had come back from the feudal era suddenly three months ago. She had just turned 19 the day after that battle with Naraku. It seemed so long ago. Was it really just three months? Since she had been back she had thrown herself into doing chores around the shrine after trying to get back through the well. She hadn’t wanted to leave. She felt like she belonged there. Not here in the era she was born. Her friends all thought that she had finally dropped the violent boyfriend. And she had a long time ago she had. But she had replaced him in her heart with his even more violent brother. But she couldn’t tell them that because even when he had come to kill Inuyasha, she felt he was there for her. But that was then this was now!
‘Wonder what chores I’ll do today. It has been kinda lonely since I came back. I wonder how everyone is doing. I wish I could go back and see everyone. Sango, Miroku, Inuyasha, Kirara and my little Shippo. How could I forget Sesshomaru, Rin and Jaken? I couldn’t forget him. But he wouldn’t want me. Yet why do I sense him every time I go towards the well house. It is like he is waiting for me to come back.’ Kagome frowned.
“No that’s impossible. That story is closed has been for three months. It is time to continue my former life. Case closed. Now what do I need to do today for chores. It has been a while since the well house was cleared out of leaves and stuff. I will do that.” Kagome hopped up from her bed and started to dress for the day.
“Ah, good morning Kagome. Come and have some breakfast. Then tell me what you will be doing today.” Her mother beamed as Kagome walked into the dining room.
“Well first I was going to clear out the well house of debris. After that I don’t know.” Kagome said thoughtfully.
“Why don’t you take a day off after the well house? You have done a wonderful job these last few months you have been home. You deserve a break.”
“Thanks mom. You know I think will.”
Finishing her breakfast Kagome ran outside and around the side of the house toward the well. Stopping long enough to grab a broom from the storage building Kagome ran to the well house. Slowing down the closer she got to the door. Opening the door she walked inside and glanced down at the well.
“That’s odd. He is there, I can tell for sure this time at least better than I have in the past. Waiting by the well for me. And I sense a pull towards it stronger today. Like it wants me to go back. Maybe…”
Dropping the broom Kagome ran up to the house just catching her mother before she left to do some shopping.
“Mom I have to go back. I can feel that I have to. Something is going on. I’m sorry.”
“I know Kagome calm down. Why don’t you go get some stuff together? But before you go let me get something for you.”
“Okay. I’ll grab my pack and start getting it ready. I won’t leave until I say ‘bye to Sota and gramps.” Kagome called to her mother before running out the door to find her brother and grandfather.
“Sota! Sota!”
Where is he? Why is he always not around when I need him! Oh there he is. Tormenting Buyo again, someone needs to tell him to stop. I just don’t have the time right now.
“Hey Sota, I am going back through the well. I don’t know why but it wants me to go.”
“Okay sis, but please be careful. And tell Inuyasha I said hi!”
“I will I promise. Do you know where gramps is?”
“I saw him going into the store house not long ago.
“Thanks Sota. BYE!”
Running towards the store house Kagome thought about what she might need.
‘Food, some pans, clothes is an obvious one. No need for books since I’m out of school now. My bike and mom’s gift. That should do it.’
“Hey gramps are you in here?”
“Hello Kagome, what brings you here looking for me? You’re not sick are you?”
“Well I am going back through the well and thought I would say bye to you before I left. I already told mom and Sota. So now I am telling you. Something is pulling me back towards the feudal era.”
“I understand. But Kagome what will we tell your friends when they come looking for you?”
“Tell them I went to a family member’s house for a while. No more made up illnesses. Got it gramps?”
“Alright no more illnesses. But I had a really good one this time!”
Walking away shaking her head in disgust, Kagome looked at her grandfather again wondering herself when she would be back. Looking away she walked into the house and up the stairs to her room. Grabbing her pack she began to put the things on her mental list inside. There was no doubt that it would be a while before she came back this time.
“Kagome come here for a minute.”
“Alright mom I’m done packing anyway.”
Swinging her pack onto her shoulder Kagome rushed downstairs to the living room where her mother stood waiting. A box was sitting on one of the low tables near her.
“Kagome I knew that one day you would be leaving again and so, I had this ordered for you shortly after you came back. It was finished just this morning, and so I was off to pick it up when you said you were going back today. So here you are Kagome a Kimono made for you. Please wear it back and take good care of it.”
“Ok mom, I’ll wear it back and is there anything you want me to tell anyone?”
“Well tell Inuyasha that if he ever wants to visit he is always welcome. Also the one who holds your heart now is welcome.”
“The one who holds my heart now, mom what are you talking about?”
“Yes the one you are going back to. The one whose heart you want to hold for yourself.”
“Mom how did you-?”
“How did I know? Very easy Kagome. When sleeping you spoke of him. This man must be wonderful indeed if he can make you dream of him. Sesshomaru is what you called out one night when I went in to check on you.” Her mother said with a twinkle of mischief in her eyes.
“Yes mom, he is great. But he is also Inuyasha’s older brother and I could never hope to have his heart. Because he is a full demon and does not care very much about humans.”
“Well at any rate tell him he is welcome to come as well.”
“I will mom. I love you.”
Grabbing the box she ran upstairs to change. Setting the box down she pulled the top off and unwrapped the tissue from the kimono. Kagome let out a small gasp of air. She pulled the kimono from the box and sat there looking at it. It was of a light blue with silver moons and a large silver dog on the back with many smaller moons and dogs along the hems.
“Oh mom.” Kagome sighed happily. The silver dogs reminded her of Sesshomaru.
She quickly changed into the kimono and put the clothes she was wearing into the pack. And ran downstairs where she stopped to hug her mom and kiss her cheek.
Spinning around in front of her Kagome asked, “So how does it look?”
“You look very beautiful honey. Now don’t keep them waiting any longer I am sure you are anxious to get back. Just come back when you get a chance.”
“I will, I promise mom.”
Dashing out the door, Kagome ran into the well house where the pull was so strong she barely had the door shut before she was pulled to the lip of the well. Jumping in Kagome wondered what and who she would find on the other side.
