Chapter II: Do I…?
Kagome had never been so fascinated with the sky. It was the most beautiful thing she’d ever seen.
Only a few moments ago, Kagome’s eyes had opened. Normally, a person would be curious as to what they were doing on the ground, but then Kagome had seen the stars and felt like her senses were going to overload. It was like a diamond on fire shimmering just beyond her reach. Without thinking, Kagome reached up, having the overwhelming desire to possess the amazing object when she got a look at her own hand.
Like a child with ADD (A/N: no offense to anyone who has it) Kagome’s attention immediately switched to her own appendage. She carefully moved the elegant looking claws at the end of her fingers. After playing with them a moment, she found she could retract them slightly if she tried.
The claws twitched and she suddenly had the feeling she should be doing something with them… But what?
‘Kill.’ Came a little helpful voice.
Kagome was startled by the sudden change in her own thought process but, since she didn’t feel worried about it, she answered it.
“Kill what?” She inquired out loud.
‘Prey.’ The voice prompted.
‘This must be instinct.’ Kagome thought with delight. ‘How vocal it is!’
‘Instinct. The Beast within. Call me what you will.’
Kagome giggled at the serious tone of the voice. “But killing prey doesn’t sound very fun. Or important.”
‘Very important! Must kill.’ Kagome suddenly felt an overwhelming desire in her body to sink her claws in something and rip the life out of it. Still, Demon Kagome was a curious creature, and always had to know WHY she had to do something.
“Why?” Kagome asked the little voice, tracing patterns in the dirt with her new claws.
‘Go to the stream. See yourself.’ The voice ordered promptly. Tearing herself away from the delightful task of inspecting her new claws, Kagome looked in the stream, her improved vision allowing her to see clearly in the darkness. A wild looking girl looked back at her with a smile on her face. Her eyes were dark chestnut but her hair shimmered dark blue. Giving the reflection a wide-tooth grin, Kagome could see she had sharp fangs. On her cheeks were jagged blue lines, one on each cheek.
“Beautiful.” Demon Kagome sighed vainly.
‘Powerful.’ The voice corrected. ‘Kill to learn your strengths and weaknesses and better prove yourself.’
“If I am so beautiful and powerful, then who do I have to prove myself to?”
‘A mate. You MUST get a mate!’ The powerful urging came back and consumed Kagome. For a moment, her brown eyes flashed red.
“Hai,” Kagome agreed softly. “I have to find an acceptable mate. But first,” She glanced down at herself. “I must find better clothing.”
The voice agreed with this small detour. ‘Better clothing to protect against the elements.’ Kagome smiled.
“And prettier clothing to attract a mate!” Kagome began to run, her nose filling with the scents of different women.
XxXxXx
Unfortunately, like most small children, Kagome didn’t easily get her way.
Kagome was utterly frustrated. She stared at the lifeless woman as blood seeped our her body and onto her kimono. The same thing had happened to the last fifty women she’d killed for clothing. And all the other villagers running around screaming didn’t help her concentration either. The only thing that did sooth her was remembering all the males she’d just killed. Every one of them wanted her but she didn’t want them.
‘Unworthy.’ The voice agreed.
After ignoring her orders to leave her alone, Kagome had killed every last one of them. And how easy that’d been. And yet, this was not easy. Kagome tilted her head to the side. How could she get pretty clothes without getting human blood all over it? The very thought of the human smell on her made her nose crinkle up.
‘Disgusting creatures.’ The voice growled.
‘Don’t kill…’ Kagome was once again startled by the new voice in her head while Instinct roared at it. She’d noticed that as she progressed her abilities and learned new things, it’d become more pressing. It hadn’t taken her long to realize it was just the nature of her human body, something she’d forsaken not too long ago. She brushed it aside as a few humans became to come near her. She tensed in response. At first, she hadn’t killed male humans because they didn’t have what she wanted. But she quickly realized (after nearly getting a spear shoved though her chest) that the males were quick to protect the women.
‘Must protect you mate.’ The voice said in a shrugging manner.
Kagome continued to be wary. They weren’t as fast as the women, but they were stronger. And, unlike her, they weren’t trying to get use to a new demon body.
The men approached closer, smelling of submission.
“Please, O Great Demon of Anger!” One spoke fearfully. “Quit slaying our people!”
‘Demon of Anger?’ Kagome wondered, confused.
‘Let’s show them anger.’ The voice persuaded mischievously. Kagome frowned at it. She didn’t want to do that. “I need clothes.” She called to the village men. For some reason, their eyes grew wide. After a moment of muttering to themselves (Kagome was too preoccupied arguing with her Instinct about killing them all for no reason) when she saw them send a boy off and watched him return with and elegant looking kimono. They sat it on the ground and backed away fearfully.
Kagome smiled at it in delight. It was a beautiful dark green kimono with white lily designs on it and a silver obi to match. “Well, it doesn’t match my hair…”
‘KILL THEM ALL!’ Voice thundered.
“But it will do!” Kagome said brightly, ignoring the demanding voice. She giggled when all the men averted their eyes as she began to strip down.
Kagome sighed, delighted with herself. Now she looked beautiful and powerful. All that was left now was…
Kagome’s eyes actually grew red for a moment as the scent of a male hit her so hard it almost sent her into Beast form. The scent seemed to literally call to her. Smelling the air, she could tell he was far away but even from a distance his aura caressed hers, enticing it to find him. Kagome knew that if she could smell him from such a distance away, he must’ve been the most powerful demon around. The perfect mate.
‘Find Him.’ Voice ordered.
Kagome didn’t need any more persuading than that. Every inch of her seemed to pulse at the idea of finding this male. And Kami help any foolish male that got in her way and wasn’t him.
O:o:O
Sesshoumaru didn’t even blink as he watched the female below him crumble to the ground, dead. His red eyes surveyed the corpse with disgust. ‘Weaklings! All of the WEAKLINGS!’ The Beast within him, newly risen to the surface, roared in frustration. ‘Unworthy! All of them unworthy! PATHETIC FEMALES!’
Enraged, Sesshoumaru sought the nearest village and turned it into nothing more then a corpse city. He shook the human blood from his claws, aggravated that now even killing unsatisfied him. He breathed in, scenting nothing. After knocking down a few trees, Sesshoumaru soared into the air, hell bent on find a female at least SOMEWHAT worthy of his time.
He spun in all directions in the air, sniffing for the scents of any females nearby. Coming upon nothing, Sesshoumaru became enraged all over again. He went to roar, and then stopped.
Just as he took a breath in to let the world know of his anger, a smell wavered though his nose. The demon almost instantly calmed, taken with this female’s scent. Sniffing again, he realize she was next to a small river. “That explains why I didn’t smell her the first time around.” Sesshoumaru murmured to himself. Her scent was soothing, and yet seemed to dance around, teasing him. His eyes actually faded slightly back to gold, although they were heavily rimmed in red.
‘Female?’ The Beast was (easily) interested.
Eyes flashing, Sesshoumaru flew toward the smell of the female, managing to land in the clearing without her noticing him. He smirked, pleased at catching her off guard. Then, as he began to speak, she straightened up, turned slightly, and stopped. Though he knew she would catch him if he didn’t move, Sesshoumaru couldn’t help but stare.
He was instantly captivated by the beautiful Inu demoness.
XxXxXx
Kagome groaned and scrubbed the shoulder of her kimono with water, careful not to slice though it with her claws. Stupid leopard demon trying to claim her. He’d slowed her down so much she actually lost the scent of that amazing male. And to top it off, he’d gotten blood on her new kimono! The loss of the scent and ruining of the garment made her want to kill that idiot all over again.
‘Dead.’ Her Beast murmured, trying to sooth.
Sighing she stood and went to turn around when something caught her eye. She froze and glanced out the corner of her eye. It was a demon, a male one by that. But she couldn’t really judge anything other than that because he stood down wind of her. Kagome growled threateningly. How dare he sneak up on her! He was going to pay for his stupidity!
‘Kill him!’ Roared the insulted Beast.
Kagome whipped around, about to growl out a threat when she stopped. Intense, red and golden eyes met her own red rimmed ones and held them there. The demon’s eyes were harsh and cold, but obviously lustful. Kagome’s heart thumped when his scent reached her nose. He was the one she’d been looking for! What luck!
‘Be wise.’ Instinct warned. ‘He must be worthy.’
‘Looks worthy enough to me.’ Kagome thought heatedly, letting her eyes crawl up the tall demon. He captured her eyes with his again and growled lowly.
“Had your fill, female?” He growled as her eyes almost began to wander again.
‘Not by a long shot.’ Kagome thought, smiling at him.
Sesshoumaru ground his teeth together when the female dog demon smiled sexily at him. He had to fight to keep the Beast from clawing his way to the surface and taking her right then and there. No, there was something about this female… It nagged at him, he just couldn’t figure it out. He growled in irritation.
The throaty growl from the male demon made a shiver crawl up Kagome’s back. She swallowed, trying not to throw herself at him. But kami, did she want to. He was tall and fit, the muscles in his arms easily shown under his kimono. Just the way he stood made him radiate importance. As if he were the best, and knew it.
“Are you just going to stare, female, or are you going to answer my question?” She heard the demon grumbled at her. Kagome smiled again, making Sesshoumaru clench his teeth in an internal struggle with his Beast.
“Gomen,” She murmured. “What was the question?” The breathy sound of the female’s voice was enough to make his eyes go completely red before he quickly regained control.
“I asked you your name, female.”
Sesshoumaru watched in anticipation as she began to circle him. “What’s yours?” She asked from behind his back.
“You will answer my question first, female.” He growled as she came back into view. He had to clench his fists to his side when she looked up at him from under those thick eyelashes. It was all he could do to keep from (once again) taking her then and there, to hell with her name.
‘WORTHY!’ The Beast bellowed inside of him.
If he could, Sesshoumaru would’ve scowled at it. ‘I’ll be the judge of that.’ He thought to himself.
“Well?” He growled, since the female was just standing there looking at him.
Kagome had to mentally shake herself. This male’s scent was making her go insane. (Which wasn’t hard since her senses had just become supernaturally keen only hours before.) She’d been staring at him, thinking about ripping his armor off when his husky voice shook her out of the daydream.
“My name is Kagome.” She smiled.
Alarm bells went off in Sesshoumaru’s head as he narrowed his eyes. “That, female, is the name of my half-brother’s miko.”
Kagome immediately panicked, trying not to let it seep into her scent. This was Sesshoumaru?! A part of her (that annoying human part) screamed no but her Beast roared back at it so she was able to concentrate. She did not care that this was the Lord of the West. This male was delicious in everyway. If he knew that she use to be human… The thought of him walking away made Kagome’s stomach turn. So, quickly, she though up a plan.
Luckily for her, Sesshoumaru was having an internal battle and wasn’t concentrating too hard on her.
‘Kagome is the name of Inuyasha’s wench.’
‘The miko! This is a demon! TAKE HER!’ The Beast roared back.
Sesshoumaru was interrupted when Kagome, on her tip-toes, smiled in his face. “You name?” She inquired.
“Sesshoumaru.” The demon lord murmured, not sure how much more of this he could take.
Kagome smiled. It was easier if she pretended not to know who she was. “Sesshoumaru,” She began to circle him again.
The female’s claws on his shoulders almost made him jerk in surprise. They left behind trail of goosebumps and left an ache in his abdomen, much to the demon lord’s surprise. A female had never made that happen before.
‘Worthy.’ His Beast insisted.
Sesshoumaru internally growled.
“Sesshoumaru,” Kagome repeated, regaining the Demon Lord’s attention. “Do I LOOK like a miko?”
She stopped directly in front of him, nearly shivering when his gaze crawled over her.
“No.” The huskiness in his voice really did make her shiver that time.
“Do I SMELL like a miko?” She smirked and tossed her hair.
The scent of the female danced around him, teasing his senses. Sesshoumaru’s eyes got red again. His arm snaked around her waist and Kagome sucked in a gasp of pleasure at the simple touch.
“No.” He growled lowly, his eyes never leaving hers.
Kagome had swallow a few times, locked in his gaze.
“Sesshoumaru?” Kagome inquired breathily, her eyes dancing between his eyes and his lips.
“What?” At this point, Sesshoumaru didn’t think he could control himself much longer.
“Do I taste like a miko?”
