Paperwork
A/N: Thank you all for reviewing. Even if it is only two reviews so far. But its better then getting nothing. It seems like my writer’s block is gone so yay!!! So I’ll probably write more tomorrow. I would write more today, but I’m dead on my feet. Once more, thank you all for reading. Please, tell me what you think. Now, I don’t know if you all realized this or not, but this is in the present, not in the past.
Chapter two: Paperwork
Kagome didn't know how long she was kept in the room. All she knew was that they gave her two meals a day and water whenever she asked. Of course she never asked for it and ate when it was shoved down her throat. But when no one came into the room, she had time to think.
Kagome found it weird that on the second day, a woman, untied her. She told Kagome that her name was Sango and that she was going to help Kagome out. Of course, it was Sesshomaru's orders that she was helping her out.
Every time Sango came in, she tried to hold a conversation with Kagome. Like what was her interest, what she liked to do on her free time, silly things like that. Every time she asked, Kagome never said anything. It wasn’t like she was trying to ignore the girl; Kagome just didn’t do things like that. She didn’t have free time, she didn’t have any interest. It was like her whole world was just covered in blood. Blood and death.
Once more the door opened and Sango once more came in. “Food time!” She said happily. Sango sat in front of Kagome, a plate full of food. “How are you doing Kagome?”
Kagome sighed. “Why do you keep coming here Sango?” She asked. “I’m a killer. You untied my hands and feet, and yet you come so close to me. Why?”
Sango sighed. “Because I think that you deserve a better life then you life. Sesshomaru wants to give you another chance at life. To start a new one where you don’t have to kill. Anyways, if you wanted to kill me, you would have done it when I untied you four days ago.”
The girl gave a small smile. “Your right.” She said softly.
“So tell me, do you like anyone?”
Kagome gave Sango a look. “I’ve been in this room for five days, and for ten years I’ve been surrounded by guys who care about nothing but blood. You tell me.”
And for an hour, the two girl’s talked.
**
Sesshomaru sat at his desk, a pile of paperwork in front of him. Once more Inuyasha messed up and almost crashed the whole company. He started to regret saving the whelps life. Of course, at the save time he just couldn’t allow the girl to kill the whelp. Capturing her, keeping her alive in his basement, and trying to give her a new start was all he could do for now. Of course when he told Sango where he was keeping Kagome, the woman placed her hands on her hips and proceeded to tell Sesshomaru that he was acting like a really bad kidnapper.
The taiyoukai looked down at the papers he had Miroku look up on her. Sure the monk worked for Inuyasha, but with his half brother in jail for screwing Sesshomaru over, and for his protection against other assassins, both Miroku and Sango worked for him for a little bit. With a sigh, he read them once more.
“Kagome Higurashi, age 16.” He read out loud. “Father died at the age of twenty four from an illness, Mother, Grandfather, and younger brother were brutally murdered at their own home. Kagome was the only survivor who was hidden in an cabinet at the time of discovery. Was put into an adoption home and adopted seven months later by Naraku Muso. Never heard from again.”
Sesshomaru shook his head as he placed the paper down and picked up another one. This time it was a newspaper clipping. The headlining was ‘Family of four, three dies, one lives.’ Once more he read it out loud to no one.
“Family of four attacked, only one girl survived. Kagome Higurashi was only five years old when her house was broken in and attacked suddenly. Nothing was stolen from the house, but the bloody scene has Police officials wondering who, or what caused the massacre. Officials found a bloodied baboon cloak left. The family was nothing more then a family of monks and miko’s who, in the past, used to protect villages and fight off demons. The Higurashi family is also well known for protecting against the legendary Shikon Jewel which disappeared from history long ago. The police believe that the baboon was looking for the jewel and not finding it, killed the family and left.”
Once ore the taiyoukai placed the paper down. Not much was said about what happened, but he could piece it all together. Naraku was after the jewel again. Just like he was five hundred years ago. Knowing the Higurashi family had it, he tried to kill them all in finding it. It made sense now why he took Kagome under his wing. She could sense the jewel. Of course, what Naraku didn’t figure out was only if her miko powers were trained well enough.
“Stupid Hanyou.” He muttered.
“Don’t you say that about all of them?” Sango asked.
Sesshomaru arched an eyebrow. “And how long have you been there slayer?”
Sango shook her head. “I thought you were better then that Sesshomaru. I’ve been here sense you started to read out loud. I thought you knew the whole time.”
He ignored her last comment. “How is the girl doing?”
“Kagome?” Asked Sango. “She’s doing better. She actually talked to me this time.” the raven haired girl sat down. “She’s smarter then you give her credit for though. Sharp too. She seems deep down inside she really doesn’t want to kill. But she’s been doing it for five years. What’s weird is how high she thinks of Naraku. The man’s got her brain washed. She told me that he beat her every time that she looked him in the eyes, and on top of that, he’s tried many times to force himself on her. But every time she got away. How, I don’t know. She doesn’t even know herself.”
Sesshomaru smirked inwardly. She wasn’t aware that she was a miko. He found that very amusing. He stood up, work papers forgotten. “This Sesshomaru will go and speak to her.”
Sango sighed and stood as well. “Well, she’s just sitting there so go ahead if you want to. I’m going to go get something to eat too. I’m sure Shippo cooked something nice this time.”
**
Kagome sat in the dark room, her eyes looking up at the ceiling.
‘/How can you respect a guy like that?!/’ she remembered Sango yelled. ‘/Maybe you’re killing the wrong people. A guy like that is horrible Kagome. I hope you see that soon./’
Kagome didn’t understand what Sango meant though. Sure he said some things every now and then, and did things to her, but he was kind to her too. He was trying to help her find the man who killed her family.
She heard the door creek open again, this time seeing Sesshomaru walk in, not her new friend.
“What do you want?” Kagome’s voice turned ice cold.
Sesshomaru watched her for a moment as he shut the door. “You are angry.”
“What do you think?! You trapped me here god only knows where, and won’t let me out! of course I’m angry!”
Sesshomaru opened the door. “I wish for you to take a walk with me miko.”
Kagome arched an eyebrow. “My name is Kagome, not miko. I’m not in any way, shape, or form a miko.”
The demon chuckled. “We will see. Now come with me. You need some fresh air and sunlight. I just ask that you not run away.”
Kagome stood and watched him carefully. He trusted her not to run away? Of course, if she tried, Kagome knew that the demon could catch up to her quickly.
**
The noise was completely new to her. Never before had Kagome heard the birds chirp so loud, the smell of flowers were soft to her nose. And even the brightness of the sun surprised her. The night was all she knew. The night, blood, and death. To see the sun like this with clouds puffing in different spots was different to her. She looked around the large garden, her eyes wide in amazement. Different kind of flowers framed the stone path, and even a fountain lay in the middle. It was a sight to behold.
“Do you like it?” Sesshomaru asked as he walked up behind her.
Kagome instantly jerked away from the youkai. She couldn’t put her guard down around him. “It’s okay.” She lied.
Sesshomaru chuckled. “You do not need to be so tense miko.”
“Stop calling me a miko!” Kagome snapped. “Why don’t you kill me? I tried to kill your brother; you have every right to take my own life!”
Golden eyes watched Kagome for a moment before he began to slowly approach her. “Do you see these claws?” He asked showing her his hand. Kagome looked at them for a moment and swallowed, remembering how easily he melted her arrow. Slowly she gave a small nod.
Sesshomaru pulled his hand away and touched a white rose. “They can melt a human within a matter of seconds, yet I could touch a flower and not singe a single petal.” He plucked the rose and placed it in Kagome’s hair. Sesshomaru watched as Kagome cringed away from him as he touched her to place the flower behind her ear.
“We call have the power to kill Kagome,” His voice became soft. “To take a life or to soak our hands in crimson. But we also have the power to begin life, to let someone who angers us, or hurt us, walk away. Life and death are two different things and shouldn’t always be a decision. That you have to take.”
Kagome watched him in awe. All her life she was told that it was kill or be killed. That the world was your enemy. She almost pulled away when Sesshomaru took her hand, but instead she allowed it.
“Your hands can give the gift of life. You have energy that pulses though them; you just don’t know it yet.” The youkai took the rose from her hair and placed it in her hand. “Take the stem and press it against the spot where I cut it. Concentrate on how it looked before I removed it.”
The girl bit her lip for a moment before doing what he said. Pressing the rose against the broken stem, she closed her eyes. But she had no idea what she was concentrating on. It not like she knew how to fix the flower. But what if she could? What if she could restore what was broken? Slowly her hand began to feel warm. Opening her eyes, Kagome gasped in surprise. The rose was glowing a slight pink where it was actually mending.
“What is this?” She muttered.
“You’re starting to realize it now. Naraku doesn’t want you to help you complete your revenge. You are a miko of the Shikon jewel. That is why he wants you.”
