Chapter Two: Breaking Up the Team

Chapter Two: Breaking Up the Team

With Inuyasha...

Inuyasha found himself back at the village, happy to be away from Kouga and Sesshoumaru for now.

'Dammit. Not one day since mating season and already, I'm being bothered, by my rival and brother no less.' He thought as he passed Shippo and some of the village children playing a game.'I need a plan. I need...I need...I need to hide my sent for awhile. And I know where to go.'

With a smile, Inuyasha walked over to a shop and went in. It was the village's sent shop, where women go for perfume and men go for musk. The owner, a aging old man with a wife, one grown son, and a toddler traded and sold all kinds of musks and insents. Inuyasha was greeted by a plump old women with copper hair with grey highlights, silver eyes and a kind smile.

"Ah, good afternoon Inuyasha. How my I be of assistance?"

"Hi, Mrs. Akarie, I need a sent." Inuyasha said as he looked at the many vials.

"Of course," Mrs. Akarie smiled."What perpous does the sent have that you desire?"

"It needs to cover up my sent from some demons."

"Ah yes, it is mating season after all. Hold on for one second."

Mrs. Akarie went through the door to the back of the store where the invatroy was. She returned a few minutes later, with a box filled with atleast a dozen and a half vials of all diffrent colors. Inuyasha looked at each one with mild intrest.

"How long do you need it to cover your sent?"

"Do you have any that will cover it till mating season is over?"

"I did," the old women srunched up her face in remmberance."But we sold the last one to someone, I forgot who though."

Inuyasha looked disappointed for a minute before looking at Mrs. Akarie.

"Well, what do you recamimened?"

Mrs. Akarie pulled out a tear drop shaped bottle with a golden green liquied.

"This one can cover you scent till next week. It's really strong."

Inuyasha's nosed scrunched up.

"A week? I can't use that. It takes a week and a half to get my friends to the next valley. What else do you have?"

"Well this one," she pulled out a round vial filled with a rusty brown color. "Will keep it covered till the new moon."

"I don't know. How strong is it?"

"Strong enough to cover you sent from any demon -lord or low leveled, and with every step you take and anything you touch, your sent won't stick to it."

The haynou hummed as he concered it for a minute. The next new moon wasn't for five weeks.(A/N: It happened two days ago.) At that time he could get everyone to a village in three and leave them so they wouldn't get hurt because of him. He made up his mind.

"I take it, how much?"

"Normaly this one costs fifty, but since it's you Inuyasha, I'll charge you...twenty."

Inuyasha took the bottle from Mrs. Akarie and handed her the money.

"Heres twenty-five. Keep the change Mrs. Akarie, Good-bye."

"Good-bye Inuyasha. What a sweet boy."

Mrs. Akarie picked up the crate as Mr. Akarie entered the room. Mr. Akarie was a tall, skinny man with sivler hair and black eyes. He held the door for his wife.

"Did I miss Inuyasha?" He asked, his hand running through his short silver hair.

His wife nodded her head. She knew her husband was waiting for the hanyou to come get his supply of covering sents. The younge man would always come to the shop for sents, and even helped around the shop a little.

"Afraid so dear, he just left."

"Really? Shoot, I haven't seen him in weeks. He came for his yearly cover sent?"

"Yep," Mrs. Akarie put the crate down on the floor of the back of the store and started putting the vials away."I feel sorry for the poor thing. Having to go throw so much pain, especialy during this time."

"Aye, I still think he should mate with Lee, that Kagome can't stay here forever. She'll have to go back sooner or later."

"Now dear, we've been through this. Lee might not agree to it, and even if he did do you really think Inuyasha would want to get Lee hurt or worse?"

Mr. Akarie sighed as his wife put the last vile away. Once agian his wife found a way to find a fault in his ideas.

"No dear. But still-,"

"Take this to Lee in the fields," Mrs. Akarie handed her husband a vile and a basket filled with water and a few piceces of bread and fruit. "And make sure he rubs the liquid over him too."

"Yes dear."

(A/N: Don't worry, it's only filled with oil so he won't smell. M.O)

===+++===+++===+++

Inuyasha looked at the rusted colored liquid, before drinking the whole thing. He rectched.

"Ugh! Why can't they make one that tastes good?" He asked hiself as he threw the bottle away. "I mean, sure they work great, but at least try to make it taste good."

He ranting was stopped by Shippo, who ran infront of him with a lollipop in his mouth. Shippo moved the pice of candy in his mouth, before taking it out with a 'pop'.

"Hey Inuyasha, where'd you go?"

"None of your business runt." Inuyasha replied as he walked around the kitsune.

Shippo hopped onto Inuyasha's shoulder and tugged the cloth. He waved the lollipop in front of the hanyou's face.

"Come on Inuyasha, you can tell me."

"I said no Shippo." Inuyasha moved the candy from his line of sight.

Shippo 'humped' and tried another approuch.

"Kagome looked very angry when she came back from her walk. She said she was looking for you, what happened?"

"Nothing happened Shippo. She told me, that you told her, that it was mating season and she wanted to mate with me. Long story short I refused, I got sat and she walked away."

"You what?!" Shippo yelled, his tail curled up sightly."You told her no? Why Inuyasha? I thought you loved her."

"I do, but in a sisterly way. I don't want her like that. Besides, it wouldn't work out."

Shippo hopped off of Inuyasha's shoulder and steped in front of his adopted father with a confused look.

"What do mean it won't work?"

Inuyasha went down to Shippo's level and touched the kits nose with his fore finger. "Because runt, she has her own life and her own family back at her time. She can't stay her forever, you know. That and she only wants to control me, she's already gotten to you."

"Hey!"

Inuyasha chuckled as he ruffled the kitsune's hair and stood. He cracked his back and continued to Kaede's hut. Shippo bellowing after him all the way. Once he arrived, his mood went from light and bubbly to moody in under two seconds. There waiting for him was a angry looking Sango, a slightly scared Miroku, and a tried looking Kaede. Sango was the first to speak.

"I can not believe you Inuyasha. Kagome tells you that she wants to be with you, and all you can do is push her away. How could you?!"

"Wait Sango-,"

"Don't spoon feed me any excuses either Inuyasha," Sango held her hand up."Kagome came back here in tears! She's your friend, and ours!"

"Sango, please hear me out."

"Let him speak Sango, it's only fair to hear his side." Miroku said, walking over to them.

"Well yes, but-,"

"Let Inyuasha speak child," Keade said this time."His side of the story is just as important as Kagome's."

Sango looked at the elderly pristess and sighed, knowing that she was right. Inuyasha took that as a sign from Kami that the demon slayer would let him speak. So Inuyasha explianed the whole thing to them, stopping every so often for a breath. He even told them about Kouga and Sesshoumaru. When he was finished, Keaded asked him what he was going to do.

"I just drank a sent covering potion, so we're safe, till the next new moon."

"But, thats only five weeks away." Shippo pointed out like the hanyou didn't know that.

"I know that runt, thats way we have to leave as soon as possible." Inuyasha looked at Sango, who was quiet during his whole speech. She looked back at him and sighed.

"I'll go get Kagome." Was all she said, before leaving the hut.

Miroku came up by Inuyasha's side and placed his hand on the hanyou's shoulder.

"She'll come around Inuyasha, they both will."

Inuyasha looked at the monk. "How do you know? What if she's still mad?"

"I am."

Inuyasha turned around to see Kagome, standing at the entrance of the hut, her expressionless face made him think that he was going to have the sit of his life. His worrying flatered somewhat, when she smiled.

"But, me being me, I'll forgive you for what happened in the forest and mate with you. Even though you don't deserve me, I still love you."

Inuyasha's worry was replaced with anger. How dare she think he would apologize! If anything she should apologize to him. He didn't want to mate with her, doesn't she see that?

"Well, I'm waiting." Kagome twriled a strian of her hair around her finger, smiling like a idoit.

"Child be concederate," Keade began, but Inuyasha stopped her.

"Kagome, there is no way that I will mate with you," he said. Kagome stopped twriling her hair, looking dumb-struck."I also will not apoloize, because I wasn't the one who was all over me like a leech."

"Is that true child?" Keade asked.

Kagome blushed heavily. "I would never Keade. I'm a good, pure girl. Inuyasha's just lying."

"If I'm lying then Kirara is pink with wings," Inuyasha glared at her."Kagome, tell them the truth."

"I am." Kagome said hotly.

"No your not, demons know when humans are lying because we can smell it, and you reak of it."

"Thats just your opinion, I don't hear Shippo complaining." Kagome put her hands on her hips.

Shippo hung his head, so the others couldn't see his expression. He didn't know what to do. He loved Kagome, but Inuyasha took him in like his own son. What could he do?

"Actually Kagome, you are lying. I smell it too."

"Shippo...," Kagome looked at the boy she saw as her own son in shock.

'Is he backing Inuyasha up?'

The Inu-hanyou looked down at the red head kitsune in equal shock.

'Why is Shippo helping me?'

'Duh, it so obvious,' his youkie rolled its eyes.'Your like a father to him. He knows that Kagome won't be alive forever, and he's finally releasing hiself from her shackles.'

'Your way too dramatic.'

Kagome looked around the hut to see everyone looking at her, in shame or disgust she didn't know. Her gaze met Inuyasha's, his whole face showed what he thought of her. He thought that she was nothing. Kagome humphed as she passed him, nose stuck up the air. She walked down the stairs as she yelled up over her shoulder.

"I'm going home, I'll wait for your apology there. Good-bye everyone."

Kagome made it to the bone eaters well and jumped in, going back to her time with out another glance. Everyone rushed to the well just to see the fimilar lights glowing from within it. Shippo jumped on the edge of the well and looked down.

"She's gone," he said, stating the obvious.

"What do we do now?" Sango asked. "We can't stay here, Sesshoumaru and Kouga will come looking for Inuyasha. But we can't leave without Kagome."

"Then stay here."

Sango, Miroku, Keade, and Shippo looked at Inuyasha who was staring into the well.

"What was that Inuyasha?" Miroku asked.

"Sango, Kirara, and Shippo can stay in the village and you and I can leave. That way, when Kagome comes back, you can come and join us."

"Why do I have to stay?" Shippo whined.

"Because, I doubt that you want to die young. Mating season is dangerous for young demons, like yourself. If any demon came up to us wanting, to mate with me, they would kill you. And I don't want to live with that guilt, so you're staying here."

His tone left no room to argue, so the fox kit nodded his head and hopped onto Sango's lap. Inuyasha looked over at Miroku.

"What about you? You have any problems with this?"

Miroku shrugged. "I have no objections to this arrangment Inuyasha."

"Good. Come on, it's getting late and we need to get some things."

They said their good-bye's to everyone and headed off to town to gather supplies and food. They went by Mrs.Akarie's shop one more time to buy another potion. Inuyasha was fortanute enough that neither Kouga nor Sesshoumaru came into the village to look for him. He figured that they were waiting till it got dark. That way, one of them could abducted him without any wittnesses.

'Now who's dramatic?' His youkie joked half-hardetly.

Inuyasha growled. 'Don't start with me you. I have been through too much today to deal with you right now.'

'Wow, snipping much.'

Inuyasha rolled his golden eyes. He was walking through the village while, Miroku was riding on a dark brown mare they 'purchased', when someone blocked their path. The someone-or someones were Ginta and Hakkau. They both looked a little winded.

"What do you want?" Inuyasha demanded. He was a little subicious. With those two, around Kouga couldn't be far.

"Kouga...sent us...to...tell you...something." Ginta panted, whiping away sweat from his forehead.

"And that is?" Inuyasha put his hands in the sleeves of his komno.

Hakkau and Ginta looked at eachother and sighed.

"You tell him Hakkau,"

"No way," Hakkau shook his head."You."

"Why me? Kouga sent both of us to tell him. If he wanted to me to tell him he would just sent me, you tell him."

"Why don't you both tell me?!" Inuyasha yelled. He couldn't take their bickering much longer.

Hakkau nodded his head and began.

"Okay, Kouga sent us to tell you-"

"-That he was going to give you untill tomorrow night to come into the forset on your own-"

"-Before he came to get you himself." Hakkau finished.

Inuyasha huffed as he looked at the two wolfs. All that fighting for something he didn't want to know? Pathitic.

"Tell him that he'll have to find me then, cause I'm not going willingly."

Ginta sighed.

"You don't make it easy, do you?" He asked.

Inuyasha smirked his fangs showing slightly.

"Nope."

Hakkau glanced Miroku who just shrugged. The wolf sighed and walked away. Ginta didn't follow, instead he just stared at Inuyasha for a few seconds before saying.

"It's useless you know, you don't stand a chance. Cause when Kouga wants something-I mean really wants someting, he won't be to hastent to get it."

"My brother is like that too, but you don't see him with tetsusagia do you?"

"Whatever, just, be careful." Ginta said before going after his compainion.

Both Inuyasha and Miroku looked at the direction the wolfs went untill Miroku snapped on the reins's, making the horse whiney and move forward. The monk spoke up after a moment of silcence.

"Are you sure that was wise of you to tell them that Inyuasha? I mean Kouga could easily find us."

"No he won 't, we drank that potion remember?" Inuyasha said as they continued walking out of the village."He wouldn't be able to catch us till the next new moon."

"I suppose, but why do we need the horse?"

"For you to get away quick enough, if there's a demon near by."

"I could easily alode it, Inuyasha." Miroku said, hurt that his friend thought he couldn't handle hiself.

"Normally yes, you would've. But don't forget this is mating season, I don't want to take any chances."

So they continued on their way. Not looking back once.
