Chapter Two


Kagome walked into the village already hearing Inuyasha ranting about what Shippo said.

“So there I was, poor innocent me, walking along when I found Kagome and Sesshomaru with their arms all over each other smooching as if they were dying without the other one. I tell you now that they are so lovers.” Shippo was standing on a crate telling an active listening Sango and Miroku, while an angry Inuyasha paced behind them, mumbling to himself.

Shippo saw Kagome and broke out in a grin, “Kagome and Sesshomaru sitting in a tree k-i-s-s-i-n-g, first come love…” he started.

“Second comes a disowned son.” Kagome finished for him with a glare.

“Eep!” Shippo hid behind a laughing Sango and a grinning Miroku.

“Kagome and Sesshomaru sitting in a tree k-i-s-s-i-n-g, first comes love…” giggled Sango and Miroku.

“Oh hush you bunch of two year olds.” Kagome said.

“You hush you slut!” Inuyasha yelled as he got into her face with anger written all over it.

Kagome didn’t even think twice when her fist connected to Inuyasha’s face. He had gone too far this time and he was going to pay for it dearly. When he was on the ground she kicked him in the ribs with all her strength, breaking one of them. She grabbed him by his robes and made sure he was looking into her eyes.

“The next time you over react to what my son is saying and call me a slut there wont be anything left of you to even consider having children of your own, asshole.” she said as she let go of the frightened hanyou.

Kagome walked over to Shippo and glared at him. “What do you have to say?” was all she said.

“Sorry, for making up the story about you and Sesshomaru-sama.” Shippo said, afraid he would get a spanking for telling lies for fun.

“It’s okay to tease someone Shippo, but don’t make up lies… It will only get you into trouble.” Kagome said as she sat under a tree.

Shippo sat in his mothers lap and fell asleep. The tree kept the rain at bay since it was so thick, so within minutes Kagome was asleep as well.

The gang watched the two sleeping and knew it was good for Kagome. Something was bothering her lately and she would tell anyone, not even her best friend Sango. Sango watched helplessly as the days went by and she couldn’t get Kagome to open up to her. It killed her to watch her friend like that.

Miroku had also tried to get Kagome to open up to him, but nothing worked. He saw the sadness that would sometimes pop up when nobody was looking. He knew she was trying to be stronger, and was succeeding. She could even wipe the floor with him.

Inuyasha was still upset and wondered what really happened with Sesshomaru. ‘Why was he with MY woman?’ was the only real thought going through his mind. That was rare though, seeing as he really didn’t think about a lot of things.

Inuyasha’s head came up as he caught a scent coming closer to the village. He growled when he recognized it as Sesshomaru’s scent. He unleashed his sword and was ready for the fight he knew was coming. “Wake up baka!” he yelled towards Kagome.

Kagome was already on her feet and Shippo was up and wiping the sleep from his eyes. Both were ready when Sesshomaru stepped out of the tree line. He didn’t have a sword in hand, but both knew he was dangerous without one.

“Why are you here?!” Inuyasha yelled.

“If you yell at me I will cut that offensive tongue out of your head.” Sesshomaru said with perfect calm.

Inuyasha was shocked by the threat and put his hand up to his throat in a defensive move. He opened his mouth to yell at his brother again for humiliating him in front of his pack and woman, but was cut off by Kagome.

“Save your breath Inuyasha. He’s not here to hurt you, or else he would have already done it. Plus I don’t want to hear your screaming and yelling at the moment.” Kagome said looking at the hurt hanyou.

“What do you want Sesshomaru-sama?” Kagome asked as she turned her attention on the demon lord.

“I wish to join your little… group for the time being.” Sesshomaru said as his bore into Kagome’s.

“Fine, but don’t irritate your brother.” was all Kagome said as she turned around and sat back down under the tree.

Shippo stared at his beloved mother and wondered what made her so… strong…yet… not his mother anymore. He wished for her to return to the way she used to be. He did like her standing up for him and beating Inuyasha up, but still she seemed… cold.

As everyone got ready for the approaching night Sango got dinner ready while Miroku got firewood and Inuyasha got water. Shippo was making everyone’s bed and Kagome was still sitting under the tree deep in thought. Sesshomaru sat across from Kagome, sitting under a different tree so that he could stare at her. His stare was unnerving Sango and Shippo as they watched the two.

Inuyasha came back carrying water and Miroku the wood. Inuyasha noticed the tension in the area and looked at everyone with a frown. He put the water down in front of Sango and jumped into a tree to sit and wait for what would happen next. Miroku made the fire while Sango put dinner together and put it on the fire to cook.

Sesshomaru stood up and walked over to Kagome, ignoring the growl that came from up in the tree. He held his hand out to her and waited for her to take it.

Kagome looked at Sesshomaru and after a few short minutes took the hand he offered her. They stood staring at each other as if they were having a silent discussion. Then both started walking away from the clearing.

Inuyasha jumped down in front of the two while everyone stared with their mouths half open in wonder. “Where the hell do you think you’re going?” he asked.

“Move.” was all Sesshomaru said.

“Were going for a walk Inuyasha, go back and sit in your tree you love so much.” Kagome said as her and Sesshomaru side stepped him and continued on their way.

They kept walking till they were well away from hearing range. They walked some more, just enjoying the walk and the fresh air. They stopped right in front of some willow trees that were blocking whatever was behind them.

Kagome looked at Sesshomaru in question and he smiled, actually smiled. It shocked Kagome and something in her started to melt. Sesshomaru moved the willows curtain and Kagome sucked in air.

Behind the trees was a pond. It was the clearest water she had ever seen in her life. There were walks in the middle that looked inviting to sit and lay on. No fish swam in the waters, everything was calm. However everything seemed to glow as fireflies hovered over the water and flew around the trees. It looked … magical.

Kagome looked at Sesshomaru when she heard a rustling noise. He was stripping out of his armor and clothing.

“What are you doing?” Kagome said in a husky voice as she saw his chest.

Sesshomaru chuckled at her reaction, “I’m undressing so I can enjoy the pond. It’s deep so you can actually swim in it. It’s more like a lake really, but small so I call it a pond.” he said looking at her.

Once he was only in his pants he walked into the pond and laid back, floating on the top.

Kagome felt like she couldn’t breathe. He looked like a bathing god like that. All hot and sexy, which unnerved her to no end. She closed her eyes and took a deep breath. She started taking her shirt and skirt off and decided to stay in her bra and panties. She walked into the water and noticed it wasn’t as cold as she thought it would be. It wasn’t hot though, it was just right.

She sighed in contentment as she started floating on the top of the water as Sesshomaru was doing. She gasped when she felt arms coming around her. She turned in the arms and came face to face with Sesshomaru.

“Kagome…May I ask you a question?” he asked while looking her deep in the eyes.
