Revenge and Truths
Chapter 2: Revenge and Truths
Before anyone could even blink Kagome had him by the neck and had smacked him into the wall. A large crater surrounded him as she held him there. Kagome tightened her hold on him until she could feel her claws touching within his neck.
“WHY?”
“Because I was ordered to by a powerful demon by the name of Leviathan.”
Kagome sent a surge of power into his body and watched in satisfaction as his body exploded within the barrier she had placed around him. Turning to Inutaisho she swayed dangerously before she collapsed. Inutaisho picked her up and left going to the shrine where Kagome lived by herself. Using her keys he opened the door and took her to the room that smelled strongest of her. Laying her down on the bed he covered her with the blanket and went downstairs to the kitchen to make himself a cup of tea and wait for her to wake up. Kagome woke up at full power as the sun was starting to rise. Taking note of the fact that she was in her own room she assumed that Inutaisho had brought her home. Walking into her bathroom she showered and handled everything she needed to within the bathroom before going back to her room. Dressing in baggy black cargo pants covered in chains and a slightly fitted red t-shirt she walked downstairs and into the kitchen to fix herself and Inutaisho some breakfast, since he was still here.
“I see you waited for me to wake up before you left.”
“And how do you know I didn’t go home and come back this morning?”
“Even in my severely weakened state I can sense every youkai on this island and tell how far away from me they are?”
Kagome looked over at him as he sipped the coffee she had sat in front of him moments before. A smirk tugged the corners of her lips at the awe like look upon his face. Walking over she lifted his jaw so that it wasn’t hanging and laughed lightly as she went back to cooking her food. He was the only person she had ever opened up in front of and as such he was the only one who could read her like an open book even when she was wearing her mask.
“What transpired between you and Sesshomaru yesterday?”
“Nothing, he simply made me realize that if I risked my own life to save you and then refused to fight Naraku I had saved you for no reason and that all your sacrifices for me over the years would have been for not.”
“So why do you wear that damned mask, daughter?”
“Because father it protects me from people.”
“And who do you need protection from?”
“Everyone.”
Inutaisho sigh this was a routine conversation for them. It was always the same from beginning to end and he knew why she had that mask of hers hell he was there when the cause of her mask broke her.
~Flashback~
Kagome stood next to her mother and father before the army of the Eastern Lord. They were there to test the soldiers and find the weaker soldiers and send them for more training. Kagome smirked she loved fighting, the life or death situation, the heat, precision, and endurance of it had always drawn her to it. Next to her mother on her other side stood her brother Ton. He was her hero after her father of course and on his other side stood the man she thought of as a second father the great Inutaisho. Bring her gaze back to the men before her Kagome looked over at her father silently asking if she could prove to him she was finally worthy of being a warrior. Her father nodded and she smirked stepping forward she turned and faced her brother, Ton.
“Ton, will you fight with my and before you say anything I want you to come at me full tilt. If you won’t do this then don’t bother and I will pick another.”
“If you truly wish to fight me then I will indulge you sis.”
Kagome smirked and they waited for everyone to move a safe distance away before they charged at each other. They appeared as nothing more then blurs the constant clang of metal on metal ringing through the courtyard. Kagome and Ton stopped after an hour and looked at each other for a second before they were once again going at it. Kagome was faster, stronger, and smarter (in terms of fighting) then any of them thought and her parents were proud of her. It had been closed to six hours since their battle started and still they were going at it. The Eastern lord and his family as well as the rest of the castle were now watching them. Mica (her mother) and Taro (her father) knew that it was about to end and they watched as Kagome was thrown through the air by a well placed spin kick to the chest by Ton. They thought it was over but Kagome thought different and landed on the balls of her feet and charged forward again surprising Ton. She punched him square in the jaw and sent him flying. Ton smirked and landed on the balls of his feet. Kagome and Ton charged at the same time met each other with sickening force. Their fists collided and the power released by them exploded around them and both of them were thrown back several yards. After, a few minutes of laying there to catch her breath Kagome slowly and painstakingly made it to her feet. Looking over she saw that Ton lay unmoving on the ground she walked toward him a smile on her face.
“Ton, stop faking and come on.”
But, Ton didn’t move, not even a muscle twitch. Kagome’s smile slid from her face and though her body collapsed several times from exhaustion she forced herself to Ton’s side and looked into his eyes only to see that they where dull and lifeless. A scream escaped her but came out more as a strangled cry. She had killed her own brother and then she felt it the swell of unnamed power within her body. A scream ripped up her throat as she and Ton’s body were surrounded in the strange energy escaping her body as it poured from her mouth and every pore. When the light died down Ton’s body was nothing but dust. That was the last thing she saw before the lights went out. That was when her miko energy first emerged.
~End Flashback~
Inutaisho blinked several times as he tried to clear the memory from his mind. Kagome was watching him as she finished cooking quietly.
“You were thinking about the day me and Ton had our practice battle weren’t you?”
“Hai.”
“I miss him so much and yet I know that if I were to use the Shikon he would only be confused and hurt. I hope where ever they are that my family is together and happy.”
As an after thought she added.
“I wish they were here I miss them so much.”
“You will see them again when you pass into the after life.”
Kagome only nodded as she swallowed the lump in her throat and set the two pplates of breakfast on the table. Kagome took Inutaisho back to Taisho Manor pulling up just as Inuyasha and Sesshomaru were walling out the front door toward Sesshomaru’s car. Kagome got out of her truck and hugged Inutaisho goodbye letting a small smile slip out.
“We will talk later daughter.”
Kagome nodded and turned to Sesshomaru and bowed her head.
“Thank you. Sesshomaru.”
Getting back in her truck she left quickly and headed to the school with Sesshomaru and Inuyasha right behind her. Inuyasha sat next to Sesshomaru questioning him about want Kagome had said and done. But, Sesshomaru ignored him and drove quietly thinking about the power Kagome had shown yesterday even the others had been blown away and he could tell that she had already regained all of her energy from healing their father and killing Naraku. Kagome pulled into the parking lot and quickly made to go to the front door of the school, but Sesshomaru quickly parked and grabbed her wrist. Kagome felt the tips of his claws prick her skin and sigh knowing he wanted answers.
“I will not answer your questions Sesshomaru. What you wish to know ask your father about.”
Pulling away Kagome straightened and looked up at him. Her eyes were icy and her mask was in place. Kagome turned and walked away her baggy clothes thoroughly hiding her body. Her baggy black cargo pants were decorated in chains and her red shirt was baggy and tight at the same time and greatly complimented her body and yet still went with her pants. Her combat boots barely showing under the wide flare of her pants. Her hair was left down. Sesshomaru growled low and watched and Kagome bluntly ignored him and walked into the building. Inuyasha just watched the whole thing quietly wondering why Sesshomaru and Kagome were even talking t each other when it was a known fact that they completely hated each other. Following Sesshomaru into the building Inuyasha went to Kikyo and asked her about Kagome. He figured she would know since she and her sister and the boy Shippou were always with Kagome anyway. Kikyo scoffed at him and walked away. Next, he tried the boy Shippou who like Kikyo scoffed at him and pulled Sango who had just walked up to them away with him. Inuyasha heard him tell her not to answer any questions about Kagome from anyone and saw her nodded. Knowing Kagome only hung with them he was forced to go to Sesshomaru for answers to his questions. Sesshomaru ignored him and sat thinking through everything he had learned about the miko youkai yesterday. Kagome sighed and walked into last period knowing Inuyasha had been trying to find out about her all day from Sango, Shippou, and Kikyo. She was happy they hadn’t told him anything.
“Don’t ask about me half-breed unless you want to come directly to me and if you can’t don’t bother because you won’t find out anything from my friends.”
“Keh, whatever wench. So why were you with my father all yesterday and this morning?”
“Because I saved my fathers life. Not that that has anything to do with you half-breed.”
Sesshomaru not in the mood to hear them argue added his own narration.
“Father, has claimed her as pack and as such she will be treated accordingly.”
“Yes, your father claims me as pack because he has been there for me since before either of your were born. He has seen me at my worst, but things between us will not change. If you hate me then by all means continue to do so because my feelings toward either of you will not change.”
“Quiet class.”
The teacher walked in and everyone turned to face the front except Sesshomaru who turned and looked her dead in the face with cold calculating eyes. Kagome for her part glanced at him before giving her full attention to the picture she was drawing. It was the statue of an angel holding a small child within her arms with tears coming from her eyes from the park in the middle of the city. Kagome often drew this picture; she felt it was a part of her and she a part of it. This time she decided to draw it in color. She had long oynx hair and startlingly clear cerulean eyes, her skin was beautifully pale, and she cried tears of blood over the body of a small child with short white hair with oynx roots, pale skin like hers, and golden eyes. Her drawing was on a rather large piece of all white paper and could clearly be seen by all. The bell rung and Kagome stood and left collecting only her pencils. Sesshomaru looked back at her desk and saw the drawing, picking it up he rolled it up and slipped a rubber band around it. Leaving the room he went out to his car and pulled from the parking lot and went home to talk with his father.
“Father, we need to talk.”
“I assume you want to talk about Kagome and my answer is no. I will not tell you about her It is her personal information and if you want it you must ask her.”
Sesshomaru growled low then threw the picture on his desk and walked from his study. Inutaisho sighed lightly and opened the rolled up paper. He looked inside and sucked in his breath. Inside was the most beautiful picture he had ever seen it looked so real and yet it wasn’t. He could almost feel the pain of the woman and the confusion from the pup within her arms at his mothers’ discomfort. Looking down at the bottom corner he saw that Kagome’s name was signed there. Again he was shocked and once again looked over the wonderful piece of art before him. He rolled the picture back up and sighed, sitting back in his chair he closed his eyes. Kagome knew that Sesshomaru would take her picture and she was almost tempted to go and get it from him but in the end she went home and went to sleep happy tomorrow was Friday. Kagome woke up to a pounding on her door and growled low in aggravation. Walking downstairs in a one of the hoari’s she had kept that belonged to Ton she opened the door and was surprised when she saw Sesshomaru before her.
“What do you want Sesshomaru?
“I want you to answer my questions Kagome.”
Kagome was shocked that he had actually used her name and not called her wench, bitch, or some other derogatory name. Stepping back she moved so he could come in her house and she led him to the living room. Sitting across from him she waited for him to ask the first of his questions.
“What are you?”
“A red, blue, and black inu youkai.”
“So how do you have miko powers?”
“I don’t know.”
Sesshomaru was taken back when her cold tone became one of pain and was soft.
“What happened?”
“My miko powers emerged out of nowhere while I was sparring with my brother Ton and they killed him…I killed him.”
Her voice was soft and painful, the scent of tears making Sesshomaru’s nose sting somewhat.
“It wasn’t your fault Kagome.”
Kagome nodded but said nothing.
“What is it you do for the Lords of the Land sand the Lead Miko’s?”
“I kill rogue youkai, miko, and ningen.”
“Assassin?”
“Hai.”
“Out of questions Sesshomaru?”
“Iie, just thinking. Why do you avoid me and Inuyasha in school?”
“Inuyasha is a dumbass and you confuse me.”
“How do I confuse you?”
“You’re never the same. Your attitude changes constantly and you aren’t as naïve as I had hoped and have even now surprised my by coming here and asking me such questions as you have. People are predictable and you are not.”
Sesshomaru said nothing just watched her and pulled the picture from his hiding spot. Kagome’s eyes widened and she opened it. It was a picture of a woman with long snow white hair in a beautiful dark blue kimono standing on a cliff. A crescent moon hung in the sky and a forest stretched out in front of her with the sea starting off in the distance.
“I took one of your works of art and thought it only fair to give you one of mine. Good night.”
With that said he stood and left Kagome smiled after she heard the door close and his car drove off down the path that led to her home. She was awed by the picture and happy he would give her such a thing. Taking the picture and putting it upstairs in her room on her nightstand she climbed back into bed and went to sleep. In his car Sesshomaru smiled the light of his smile actually reaching his eyes for the first time in a long time. He knew she was awed by his art work by the way her eyes softened and he was happy he could give it to her though he wasn’t sure what had made him go to her in the first place. Finally, reaching his own bedroom Sesshomaru undressed and climbed into bed. He lay there staring up at the ceiling for a while. After, a while he felt the waves of sleep wash over him and fell asleep thinking of Kagome.
Before anyone could even blink Kagome had him by the neck and had smacked him into the wall. A large crater surrounded him as she held him there. Kagome tightened her hold on him until she could feel her claws touching within his neck.
