Chapter I
Chapter 1:
Kagome walked along the path towards the center of the town, now aptly named Tokyo, and looked around herself, hardly recognizing it from the village that it used to be. Ever since the defeat of Naraku, a congregation of people from all over the lands had gathered here, to come under the protection of those who slayed the most powerful demon thought to have existed. What they didn't realize is that it was a mixed blessing, for demons still regulary assaulted the area, looking to take the Shikon jewel away from it's protector, the miko Kagome.
In many ways, the village resembled a more fortified version of the old demon-slayer's village, ringed by stone walls and turrets, and in fact Sango and Miroku were in charge of training the army to protect the city from external threats, using weapons made from the skeletons and bodies of demons slain in battle. Although, unlike the old city, Tokyo allowed demons and half demons within it's walls, and tolerated them so long as they behaved themselves.
In fact, Sesshomaru, ex-Lord of the Western Lands, now Lord of the Central Lands, was himself a full demon, and incidentally, was the ruler of Tokyo. There he was now, speaking of the devil, walking down the street in her direction, the ever faithful servants Jaken and Rin by his side.
Kagome gave him another glance, looking at his long flowing white hair, his yellow eyes, he bore such a close resemblence to her dead lover, Inuyasha. Although she didn't know if he had loved her back or not, she had still loved him with all her heart.
Without realizing what she was doing, she walked up to Sesshomaru and hugged him around the waist, wanting to feel his warm touch....no....wanting to feel Inuyasha's warm touch once again.
Sesshomaru sighed when this happened, for it had happened before. His patience on this matter had worn thin, and he decided that it was time for him to lay it on Kagome exactly the nature of the present.
"Miko." he said in a cold tone of voice, capturing her attention and causing her to turn her head upwwards.
"I am not Inuyasha. Inuyasha is dead and buried. I suggest you release me, stop seeing me for who you wish me to be. If you persist.....then I will kill you." stated Sesshomaru, in a very 'as a matter of fact' tone of voice.
The transformation apparent in Kagome caused Sesshomaru to almost regret his choice of words. Almost.
What had been a content but sad look in her eyes took a sharp dive downwards, to one of shock, then anger, then deep deep depression. She released him, and turned her back to his, her head hanging down towards the ground.
He started to reach out a hand to her, but she began walking away, first at a fast clip, before she began running in the general direction of Inuyasha forest.
He sighed, then turned back to his attentions. He walked off in the direction of the training grounds, a now sullen Jaken and Rin accompayning him.

Kagome ran and ran, until she passed through the castle gates and into the territory surrounding the castle and village. Then she entered Inuyasha forest, and soon arrived where the great tree of times stood.
She placed her hands on the arrow mark upon it's trunk, where Inuyasha had been pinned to this spot for fifty years, where she had first met him, and released him from his bonds.
Tears were now falling down her cheeks, as her hand slid down the trunk. She fell to her knees, and began weeping at the base of the tree.

"Hmm, she is away from the protection of the castle and village." spoke Amaru softly, observing her movements from his vantage point a distance away.
One of the three humans standing near him glanced in his direction.
"That makes this task easier, does it not?" he inquired, looking between the castle and forest.
"Not really, I suspect. Her friends will come looking for her by nightfall. And for obvious reasons, we will not be able to move in until then." said Amaru, glaring at the accursed sunlight which would fry him in an instant.
"Heh. I suppose it's just lucky for us that there is a real lack of silver in Japan." remarked a second human.
"Not that it would help them if they did. I doubt they have encountered anything of our kind before now. But enough talk. We move in at first darkness." said Amaru, before retiring to his sleeping quarters in the little hutt.
