Chapter 2 - Out of the frying pan


“My names Selene” she smiled, she wanted to make Rin feel more comfortable. “How did you get lost anyway?”
Rin frowned and her head tilted to the ground “Well, you see I was walking through the forest with Lord Sesshomaru and Master Jaken when I noticed these really pretty flowers and I know I wasn’t suppose to but I left the path to go look at them” Rin’s eyes began to tear up again “And when I looked up to where they were standing just moments ago they were gone!” tears slid down Rin’s cheek as she began to cry again.
“Oh, Rin it’s alright” Selene bent down to hug the girl.”I’ve been lost before too, I know it’s scary but I’m sure well find your family soon” Selene wiped a tear off Rin’s cheek. “How about we look for a path and then go from there” Rin nodded.
Selene stood up and took Rin’s hand, they began to walk west through the tall trees.
Selene had guessed if they kept going one way they would came across a path sooner or later.

“Miss Selene” Rin squeaked half an hour into there journey. “I think I heard a noise” she leaned closer to Selene for protection.
Selene put her hand on Rin’s head “Shhh…” she was trying to calm the frightened girl down, in fact she had just heard something too, she looked around there was a soft hissing noise coming from above them, it was like a snake.
Selene took a step forward BAM, she was hit in the back of the head and thrown to the ground. In the process of trying to get back up Selene heard Rin scream, whatever had hit her had Rin. Selene turned around quickly to see a large snake demon pulling Rin up into the tree they had just been standing under. Its tail covered her mouth so she couldn’t scream.
Selene ran at it she pulled herself onto a lower branch or the tree, just as it was about to bit Rin Selene jumped in the way. The demons powerful jaws clamped around Selene’s arm, she held in a scream as a jolt of pain went through her body. Selene could hear Rin’s muffled screams behind her, she knew if she didn’t kill this thing it would kill them.
Selene grabbed at the snakes face and pulled it off her arm blood began to gush out of the wounds the demons teeth had made. She pushed the snakes face away it hissed, Selene turned toward Rin her little body was being crushed by the powerful creature. Selene grabbed at the demons tail seeing this once on a nature show she bent its tail backwards; the creature hissed in pain dropping Rin to the ground, she was unconscious.
It turned its attention towards Selene, she didn’t know what to do she had no weapons. Then she noticed a light pink glow from her shirt pocket, it looked like the snake demon had noticed too. “What?!” it hissed “The Jewel shards! And there reacting!” the demons eyes narrowed “You’re a miko!”
Selene’s eyebrows shot up “What did this thing just call me?” she thought to herself.
The snake demons tail whipped towards her shirt pocket, Selene raised her arms in defence but nothing happened, the jewel shards were glowing brighter now and the snake demon couldn’t get close to her, they were repelling the demon.
The snake’s eyes darted to Rin lying on the grass, before Selene knew what had happened the demon was on the ground beside her ready to bite. Selene jumped from the branch onto the demon, when her hands made contact with its flesh the creature hissed and screeched in pain then a flash of pink light and it was dead.
Selene stood up dazed, the demons smoking charred body was lying in ashes on the ground, and her arm where it had once been cut and bloody was now healed like nothing had happened.
Rin made a noise as she began to wake up “Miss Selene?” she said in a groggy voice.
Selene rushed over to her “What did I get this poor girl into” she thought to herself.
“The Demon!” Rin’s eyes widened “Miss Selene how did you do that!” she pointed at the smoking corpse. “Are you a miko Miss Selene?!”
“I don’t know what a miko is but…Rin!” Selene had noticed a deep cut on Rin’s forehead she knelt down beside her to look at the damage, and it happened again the jewel shards in her shirt pocket began to glow a light pink.
“Miss Selene, you are a miko only, miko’s can make the shards glow like that!” the pink light traveled down Selene’s arms and into her hands, she looked at her once bloody arm to Rin’s forehead and she got an idea. She placed her hands over Rin’s cut and it began to heal.
“Thank you, the pain is all gone” Rin smiled and hugged Selene.
“I’m glad you not hurt any more Rin but I have no idea what’s going on!” Rin’s eyes brightened she was looking over Selene’s shoulder.
“Lord Sesshomaru! You found me!”She stood up and ran past Selene she was giggling happily. Selene turned, there was a man standing a few feet away he was a demon, his silver white hair shown brightly in the moon light and his shocking golden eyes made Selene stare, when she realised what she was doing she looked away blushing he was gorgeous ^-^.
Rin ran back to Selene she started tugging at her hand, Selene stoop up and Rin brought her over to introduce her.
“Lord Sesshomaru” Rin was still smiling brightly “This is Miss Selene she saved me from the snake demon”
Selene blushed lightly “I must look great” she thought to herself “Hair all messed up covered in blood and snake ash”
“Lord Sesshomaru, Miss Selene is a miko, she found me, and she really really nice, do you think she could come home with us? You see she has some jewel shards and I don’t want any demons to come after her and…” Sesshomaru raised his hand signalling Rin to be quiet.
“Thank you miko, for protecting Rin” he noticed the smoking demon corpse on the ground. He looked back to the woman in front of him, she was beautiful. He wondered where she’d come from her clothes where similar to the wench that followed his useless half brother, And how did she have the power to char the demons body, he had never seen a miko with that strength.
“Can she come with us?” Rin looked at Sesshomaru hopefully he nodded a perfect excuse to get the answers to his questions.
Rin jumped up and down happily and pulled her over to Sesshomaru, a cloud had formed under his feet. Rin and Selene stepped onto the cloud it began to rise into the air.
Selene looked over the edge she was amazed how high they’d gotten in such a short time, Rin grabbed Selene’s hand she looked at her and smiled, Rin looked really happy to be back with Sesshomaru,
“I wonder how a little human girl ended up with a powerful demon lord?” she thought about it for a while, when Selene looked up again she saw a tall grey-stoned castle. She was envious she’d always dreamt of living in a castle just like this.
The three landed just after the front gates and a small toad like person came running from inside the castle. “Lord Sesshomaru you found Rin!”The toad man stopped and stared at Selene.
“Jaken” the toad man looked at Sesshomaru “You will show Selene to the bath house, then to an empty room she can use”
“Yes My Lord” he eyed her suspiciously.
Selene followed Jaken to a room on the ground floor it was build around a natural hot spring, Rin had come too her face was covered in dirt and she had mud and twigs in her hair.
After washing up Selene put on her black tank top and pyjama pants, she’d managed to scrub the blood and dirt out of her clothes but they needed to dry, she was glad she’d remembered to grab her bag when she left the hut.

Lying in bed ten minutes later Selene began to thing of Kagome and her reaction when she woke up in the morning and Selene was gone. “I really hope she’s not too worried” she said to herself as she closed her eyes within seconds she was sleeping.
