Ch2
“Aiko Ginku”
Kagome forced a smile on her face as she watched the students stand up and receive their diplomas.
“Miku Imako”
She began to stand up as she was the next one in line. She could not wait for this day to end. After today she would have no restrictions to being in the past. Hopefully they would get all the shards before she started college.
“Kagome Higurashi”
All thoughts left her of the past as she stood smiling and began to make her decent onto the stadium. She smiled even bigger as she heard her friends and family cheering her on.
She smiled as she took a hold of her diploma smiled as her mother took pictures.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
“Mama are you sure? I mean I don’t have to go with them today. I know you really had your heart set on-“
“No but’s Kagome. Your eighteen now, and if you want to hang out with your friends then that’s what you’ll do.” Her mother said with a smile. “Besides my sweet child, I have you atleast before you go back to the past with Inuyasha.” She said in a hushed whisper.
Kagome smiled and hugged her mother. She felt her mother hug her back and then step away. Kagome pulled away and watched as her mother smiled one last time and turned around. Kagome’s heart clenched in her chest; when she saw her mother wipes away a tear.
She made to move to go after her mother when three voices stopped any of her attempts.
“Kagome!”
“We did it!”
“We made it!”
Kagome smiled as she turned around and saw her three best friends; Eri, Yuka, and Ayumi.
“Hey guys.” She exclaimed as they engulfed her in a group hug. They stood there for a while as they group began to cry.
“Stop that you guys, you all are giving me a headache.” Eri said.
“I can’t breathe Yuka.” Ayumi giggled.
“You guy’s are all hopeless. I don’t think I’ll miss any of you guys.” Yuka sarcastically said.
Kagome began to giggle at their silliness and they soon detached from each other and wiped away tears that escaped down their faces.
The four girls linked arms and smiled.
“Shall we?” Kagome asked.
“We shall.” The three answered with giggles.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Lost. She was lost, how could she be lost? They were all together, this was supposed to be their last hurrah together, and here she was in the middle of the amusement park lost. She narrowed her eyes as she searched out for any signs of her friends.
She sighed as she realized she was lost. She was thankful that her mother had gotten her a cell phone as a graduation present. She was also thankful that her and her group of friends, if one could call them that right now, had exchanged phone number’s before coming to the park.
She flipped open her cell phone and saw that she had no new text messages or missed calls.
‘Figures.’ She thought dryly. ‘I won’t see these guys for who knows how long and they freaking leave me.’
She looked around looking for the entrance. Her reasoning, maybe they will head that way too. If not she could always catch the train home. Yes that seemed like a good plan.
So she adjusted her purse placing her cell phone back into the pocket of the purse and began to make her way back to the entrance.
As she got closer to the entrance she began to get an uneasy feeling run down her spine.
She shivered as the feeling became more and more close.
Suddenly her eyes widened as she realized what she was feeling were a youkai presence. But that couldn’t be, Inuyasha had been in her time before and never once had he said he felt a youkai.
She stopped and began to frantically look around. The only way she could sense a youkai was if…
No she shook her head from that thought. Only her friends knew about the well, and they couldn’t even pass through, not even little Shippo could.
She didn’t know why but she couldn’t move, as much as she wanted too not that she didn’t think she could handle a youkai, but what would these people think? What would she tell the cops?
“Oh I’m sorry, it was a youkai and well being a miko I did want any Miko would.”
Yea, that would not go over well.
She was brought out of her thoughts when a hand was placed on her shoulder. She ‘eeped’ and turned around, but she couldn’t see anything. Surely she felt someone on her shoulder.
“Ahem.”
Kagome’s eyes widened as she looked down and saw a bald little man looking up at her. She smiled thinking maybe he was lost, or maybe he was wanting to help her as well.
“Uh… Hello.” She greeted.
“My you ningens never change.” The man said. If Kagome wasn’t already freaked out about the stranger, she was more freaked out that the man called her a ningens like she was below him.
That got her pissed off. How dare he speak to her like she was below him, I mean hello did he not look in the mirror.
That’s when she felt it. This man was the youkai she was feeling. But that couldn’t be.
“You know if I recall, you being speechless is a rare thing Ningen.” The man spoke again.
“What the hell is your problem.” She all but yelled out.
He smirked, and that’s when she realized he was trying to get her all upset. Well she didn’t have to take that. She ‘hmph’ and promptly turned around and began to walk away when she only got maybe two steps away when she tripped over something, or rather someone.
She looked down and saw that man who had just teased her was now underneath her.
“Look little man, I don’t know what your game is but-“
“Miko, I would advise you not to speak to the vassal of the great Lord Sesshoumaru like that.”
That’s when it happened. Her eyes bugged out and she fainted.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
She slowly opened her eyes and all she could see was darkness. She sighed as she began to sit up.
“I would be more careful Miko.”
She snapped her eyes open and looked at the direction of the voice. It was that man from the park.
“Who are you?” she croaked out. And winced inwardly at how horrible dry her voice sounded.
“Drink this ningen, it’ll help I promise.” He soothed to her.
She eyed him wearily but accepted the drink none the less. She sighed in condiment as the soothing taste of tea ran down her throat. The two sat in the bedroom in silence while Kagome finished her tea.
She sighed as her eyes once again turned to the man who she had no idea who he was.
He smiled what he thought was a soothing smile, it just grossed her out even more. He gently took the cup away from her and placed it on the night stand.
She opened her mouth to speak again when she felt something shift in the air in the room. Before her eyes the man transformed from a balding older man to a green toad.
“Jaken…?” she shrieked.
“Oh good, I was hoping my original form you would recognize little one.” He said in a very strangely fatherly tone.
“What the hell…” she muttered.
Jaken chuckled lightly and then sighed as the girl stared at him in disbelief.
“We have much to discuss Little One, and you still need rest.”
“Why are you so nice to me? The last time I saw you, you hated me.”
He sighed. “I still don’t like ningens all that much, but you are the only one that can save my master Lord Sesshoumaru from death.”
Her eyes widened. Her, save Lord Sesshoumaru from death. That’s when she began to laugh. The thought it self was funny as hell. How could she save Lord Sesshoumaru?
“Quit laughing wench.” Aww there was the Jaken she remembered.
“The names Kagome. Ka-Go-Me. got it, learn it, and use it.”
He scoffed as he sat down on the bed. “We do not have time for this Miko. I have waited until I was sure you had defeated Naraku by now. What is going on in the past as we speak?”
She sighed. Jaken right now was her only link to the past, why not humor the toad.
“We are searching for the last of the shards. Why?”
Jaken sighed as he rubbed his forehead. “If you thought Naraku was evil, you have not seen anything yet.” He stopped as there was a knock on the door.
“Enter Hanyou.”
Kagome’s heart sped up Hanyou, as in her Hanyou? She turned her head to watch as Inuyasha would open the door.
And then for the second time in the day she was shocked again. There standing in the doorway with brown dog ears on top of his head and claw’s for nails was not Inuyasha but none other than Hojou.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Hojou shifted nervously from the door way. She was staring at him, and in awe. He started to walk closer and he could smell her fear, and confusion.
“I’ve wanted to tell you for so long Kagome-san.” She blinked as he used the title for her name.
“Kagome-san? What happened to being called Kagome-Chan?” she asked.
Hojou smiled and showed off his fangs. “You are the chosen one.” She said as if that was enough reason.
“Chosen one?”
Jaken cleared his throat and motioned for Hojou to come in closer.
Kagome snapped her head to the forgotten toad with a look of ‘ok spill it and now.’
“You were chosen as Midoriko’s reincarnation.” Jaken stopped as the girl stared at him again in confusement.
“But I always thought I was Kikyo’s reincarnation?”
Jaken scoffed. “The dead miko? Hardly, you are Midoriko’s. Anyways you were chosen to come back into the past to change what happened.”
“What do you mean?”
He sighed. “It is a little diffcult to explain but I think I know of a way. You see the past happened once without your involvement. What happened was Inuyasha was never freed from the tree, My Lord Sesshoumaru never took on a ward or lost his arm. But because all that happened you were chosen by Midoriko herself to change that. You were sent back into the past to make sure all those things did happen. And now you’re being sent back again.”
“But I don’t understand?” she said.
Jaken smiled and patted Kagome’s hand in reassurance and began again. “All the times that Inuyasha was here, why do you think he could not feel or smell Youkai?” He continued at her shrug. “Because of this threat that you must defeat, we Youkai and Hanyou have gone into hiding. This isn’t right. We should not be in hiding.”
“Well have you ever maybe thought that this is the way things were meant to be? Maybe Lord Sesshoumaru was meant to die?”
Jaken’s eyes widened as she finished. “Are you nuts woman? Lord Sesshoumaru is not supposed to die. Why would you say something like that?”
Kagome looked to Hojou who looked like he had been wanting to say something. She smiled at him. It did not go unnoticed by Jaken.
“Listen Miko, you are to save my Lord Sesshoumaru, it has been foretold that you will.”
Kagome looked to Jaken and sighed. “Okay, so let’s say I go back to the past, How am I to get away from Inuyasha, and how am I to get Sesshoumaru to allow me to accompany him without him thinking I’m there to protect him?”
“That is something I do not know Little One. But I can see the Hanyou needs to talk to you so we will discuss this later.” With that Jaken bowed as he stood up and promptly left.
They sat there for a while just staring at each other. She couldn’t believe it. All this time Hojou was a hanyou.
“What kind are you?” she suddenly asked.
He smiled. “Can’t you tell? I’m Inu.”
“Like Inuyasha.” She said fondly.
“Yes, just like Inuyasha-San. Kami Kagome I wanted to tell you so bad, but everytime I’d get you alone Eri, Yuka, and Ayumi were there so I would quickly lie and ask you out.”
She smiled as it dawned on her. “So that’s why you were never upset when I couldn’t make it to out dates.”
He nodded and spoke again. “All those ‘presents’ I gave you were just to keep the illusion up that you were sick like your Ji-can would say. I figured if it looked like you were getting medicines for your illness then everyone would believe you.”
She smiled as she leaned over and did the one thing she never did. She hugged him.
He smiled and wrapped his arms around her. “Please don’t be mad at me Kagome-San.”
She began to cry as she pulled away. “I’m not mad, in-fact I’m glad now. Now I have someone to talk to about all the adventures I’ve had.”
He smiled and nodded. “I’d like that very much.”
*~*~*~*~*~*~
Jaken smiled as he leaned back from the door. Yes this was the right thing to do. He knew that she would save the Youkai and Hanyou race. And save his Lord Sesshoumaru.
As he walked down the familiar hallway’s of the House of the Moon he stopped a picture of his Lord Sesshoumaru in his true form and smiled fondly.
“Don’t worry master, she’ll save you. I know she will. She has a pure heart. I can feel it.”
With that Jaken once again took up his ningen disguise and headed outside to the garden, that he affectingly called “Rin’s Garden.”.
