Power of Two Jewels

The weather was unusually hot for spring. After many sits towards Inuyasha and the agreement of the group, Kagome finally found herself lain out on her stomach upon a large blue beach towel beside the small lake they‘d come across not an hour before. Sango happily laid out beside her in a one piece black swimsuit, as she had outright refused to wear the two piece red bikini that Kagome now wore.

Kagome rolled to her back and lay an arm across her eyes as a tall shadow appeared above her. Squinting up at the thing blocking her sunlight, her sapphire eyes glared up at the hanyou above her. “What do you want Inuyasha?” She asked, hoping to get him out of the way quickly.

“We should really be out there searching for jewel shards not lying around nearly naked practically begging to be eaten.” He growled before dropping down to seat himself beside her reclined self.

Internally growling she sat up to face him. Not noticing the way his eyes traveled her form with interest. “and I told you once before that it’s way to hot to be out traipsing around Japan and battling any number of demons Inuyasha, you’re going to end up giving someone a heart attack.” She sighed before wiping at her forehead. “While I have to commend you on your dedication to this task.” She said turning her eyes on his bent head.

“Feh, whatever wench.” He muttered. “You forget that it was you who shattered the damn thing in the first place.” He pointed out.

Kagome rolled her eyes. “Whatever Inuyasha, I don’t have time for your bickering.” SHe said standing and heading for the shoreline.

“Hey, where are you going?” He demanded with wide gold eyes.

She stopped and turned jamming her hands on her hips. “Inuyasha! For the love of Kami, it’s hot, the sun is directly overhead and I’m getting fed up with your whining.” She groaned tossing her hands into the air. “Now, if it’s alright with you, your majesty, I’m going to soak in the water before we actually have to move.” Kagome quirked a brow at the moody hanyou. She turned and head into the shallows of the clear lake and at waist deep she dove in.

Inuyasha growled to himself before feeling the weight of someone’s eyes upon his back. He snapped his head around and found Sango glaring at him. “What!?” He demanded folding his arms into his sleeves.

“You know Inuyasha, you ride her way to much, you really need to take a break. It must get really annoying being you.” She said before standing and striding into the water to cool off.

Later that night as everyone was settling down for bed, Kagome after tucking Shippo down and having put away the things from dinner, sat off to the side, her sun warmed back resting against the rough bark of a tree. Her hand lightly tracing the gash on the upper part of her right arm.

After her little outburst with Inuyasha earlier that afternoon and the group had changed back to their normal attire, a large snake demon had attacked. As usual the point behind it’s attack had been for the jewel shards.

However that was really not the source of her deep thoughts.

Kagome had just returned from the other side of the wide bushes she and Sango had used to chage behind. The chilling tingle of Kagome’s jewel senses had soared. Coming at them fast and with a purpose was in fact a demon. “Inuyasha! Jewel shards, coming at us fast!” She just managed to squeeze out as out of the forest burst the 20 foot tall black and red snake.

“GIVE US THE JEWELS!” The towering youkai hissed out. Kagome eeped to herself as it narrowed it’s large red eyes on her and dove.

She narrowly escaped being decapitated as she rolled off to the side in time. Grabbing for her bow and arrows she trained one upon the forhead of the great beast.

Inuyasha had taken it’s attention off of her, which for her meant she had to dodge the tail as it whipped out at her blindly. “We want the jewel of elements!” It demanded this time striking out at Inuyasha. Kagome faultered, ‘Jewel of elements?’ Her thoughts swirled and she missed the way the snake youkai turned it’s attention upon her.

“KAGOME! LOOK OUT!” Sango screamed as she whipped her bone boomerang towards it.

Kagome’s wide blue eyes finally focused in as the snake crouched and leapt for her. She struggled to raise her bow unsuccessfully as the weight of the creature crushed her down into the water softened sand of the beach. An upturned root caught deep in her bicep as she was forced across the beach and down into the shallows of the warm waters.

She dropped her bow in an attempt to save herself from the crushing weight. Her eyes coming open as she watch the open jaws of the beast baring down upon her. Then, just like that, she was free. Struggling out of the shallows she watched as Inuyasha swiftly dispatched the snake and retrieved the two shards embedded at the back of it’s neck.

Numbly she took the small glass bits and continued to stare. Her point of focus so much so, that it drowned out the sound of Inuyasha’s bitching, and the worried looks from those of her group. Miroku snapped out of his curious staring long enough to knock Inuyasha soundly across the top of his thick skull.

Which of course resulted in the frustrated hanyou turning on the monk. Several hard knocks later and Inuyasha had finally focused on the girl.

Sango now was beside her and had placed a hand upon her shoulder causing her to jump. “Kagome, are you ok?” She asked of the teen.

Kagome turned preoccupied eyes upon the tajia. “He wanted the jewel of elements, not the jewel of four souls.” SHe said as if she hadn’t just spent the last several minutes entranced by the jewel fragments.

Inuyasha stiffened a bit. “I noticed that too.” He said as he sheathed Tetseiga.

Moved by this strange new jewel and questions Kagome had turned to Inuyasha. “What is this new jewel it’s looking for?” She asked as she bottled the other shards.

He looked thoughtful for a moment, his golden eyes searching the ground as if for an answer. His eyes slowly rose to the questioning gaze of his unintentional pack. “Another jewel, from another time.” He said.

Sango gave him a strange once over before persisting. “What exactly does that mean? We can’t read minds Inuysha.” She muttered leaning her boomerang against a tree. Kagome turned her full attention upon the man and waited as he seat himself against the base of a tree.

“You better sit down for this.” He’d said.

Kagome turned her attention from the flames of the fire to the half demon seated across from her. His eyes were focused soley upon her as she sat and contemplated this new turn of events.

As it turned out, they now had to find another person who also carried a sacred jewel. But how exactly are you supposed to find someone who’s dead? If the rumors were to be believed at least. This new jewel was far more powerful and until now kept as a secret amongst the demon community.

Kagome sighed heavily as if the weight of the world had been suddenly replaced upon her shoulders. Inuyasha moved over beside her as she fretted over this new threat. She didn’t bother turning to face him as he spoke. “I’m sure that nothing too terrible can come of this. After all, he and his entire family we wiped out by power hungry youkai not many years ago.” He said.

She nodded. “I know, but you never know. Everyone thought that the Shikon no Tama was gone as well.” She said as she placed her head on his shoulder. “And yet, suddenly I showed up.” SHe pointed out.

“Try not to worry about it so much.” He said as he lay his head against her own. They sat in comfortable silence, basking in each others presence. The nightingale and insects adding to the calming fire and bright blue moon. Slowly a set of sapphire eyes fell shut to the steady breathing of her living pillow.
