He could see him falling. He ran, time having slowed down, hurrying to him, knowing he wouldn't be there in time.
Falling, falling in slow motion, infinity in a second.
Their hopes washed away.
He finally got to him, just moments before the other touched the ground. He heard nothing, all having gone silent around him, save for the ragged breath of his lover. He gathered the other in his arms, embracing him. The other's glazing eyes sought out his, questioning.
The monk was fading, the blow he'd taken too much for him to recover from. His robes were torn, stained with blood, the skin showing through the tears bleeding and mangled. Every raspy breath seemed weaker.
The hanyo held him gently in his arms, cradling him against himself, cursing himself for having been too slow, too slow to have been able to prevent this.
He kissed his lovers brow. The other tried to talk, blood trickling from his mouth, but only got out a rasp. His eyes sought out his, desperate, lonely... scared.
Inuyasha held him tight against himself, rocking him gently, watching into his eyes, comforting him wordlessly. He pressed a warm kiss to the already cooling, bloodied, lips, tears streaking down his cheeks.
