Chapter one The Girl who overcame time and the two half demons

----------------------------------------------

One Week Later…

At Kaede’s suggestion, I trained each day, getting into a routine with the rest of the village. At first, the village people had been suspicious of me, but a week later they had accepted me after I had defended them with my developing abilities. On the second day, I had gone back to the clearing and found a sword next to where I had been lying in the grass. Using the ties on the scabbard, I attached it to one of my belts through the one of the many holes, and kept it as my own.

Every day, I practiced my abilities and found, to my shock, that, although I had a black belt in martial arts, I could do many things with just my bare hands that I could not do before. I worked with Kaede and found out purely by accident that I had purifying abilities as well when I had shot an arrow at a demon. The weirdest thing was that each of them came after me, looking for a sacred jewel known as the Shikon no Tama (Jewel of 4 souls). I knew that I did not have it, seeing as Kagome had it and not me, but I didn’t tell anyone this as they would probably kill me for lying.

For the first time after a week of nothing but training, I was resting on a branch that faced the boy on the tree (who’s name I found out was Inuyasha) and watched him. I wondered if I should go against the villagers’ wishes and free him with my purifying ability on the arrow, and as I sat there contemplating this I suddenly heard someone break through the trees to the left of the clearing.

Curious, I got up silently, creeping forward. I had a full view of the clearing, and as I looked around, my ears twitching, I saw her reach the tree. She was a lovely figure and looked about 15 years, with mid-length black hair, slightly tanned skin and what looked like a Japanese school uniform. She had reached Inuyasha and was looking up at him as she stood by the roots that had wrapped around the Dog-Demon.

She then did what I had done except not as gently. She gripped his ears and tweaked hard. I flinched in sympathy, knowing exactly what that felt like (one of the children had done that and it was painful as the ears were so thin). As I watched, I heard the men coming up underneath where I was standing. As I saw the village men notch their arrows, yelling “Hey, get away from there!” I then heard something from the direction where she had come from.

Making sure that she and the villagers were all right, I moved quickly through the trees, until I came to the well, the same place I had been a week ago. I was searching for what had disturbed me, when I saw movement in the well. I stepped back a few paces as an ugly being came out of there! The top half was a naked woman with long silky black hair, but what made me shudder was the long centipede legs and tail connected to where her bottom half should have been. I gulped and immediately turned away, springing through the trees as fast as I could. Kaede needed to know about this.

---------------------------------------

Hour Later…

I circled around looking for the creature, but it had disappeared. I sighed, dropped to the ground and walked out of the forest, disappointed. Seeing as I could not tell the villagers which way to search for mistress centipede, I walked up to Kaede’s hut. Just as I got to the door, I heard a new voice say “Woow that looks great, real food!” I knocked on the door and entered. The two of them looked up at me as I passed the girl and sat on the opposite side of Kaede one the other side of the fire, looking curiously at the newcomer.

“Who are you?” I asked pointedly, staring at her. She stared in shock. “You can speak?” I blinked in astonishment, and then narrowed my eyes into a glare. “Of course she can speak she is just the same as you, even though she is a half-demon.” I snorted and turned my head away, accepting a bowl of stew from Kaede.

“What’s your name?” I looked at her out the corner of my eye and replied grumpily, “Shade Shadow.” She smiled. “Sorry for insulting you I am Kagome Higurashi.” I nodded my head as I brought the bowl up and drank some of the stew. She looked over at Kaede as she took a drink of stew from her own bowl. “Bear us no ill will child, for though I now see ye mean us no harm, in these times of war no stranger may be welcomed without deep distrust.” Kagome blinked at this and then tilted her head a little as she looked at Kaede. I looked up at her as well as I put my bowl on the floor.

“That is why you were so mistrustful of me when I first arrived?” Kaede glanced at me and nodded as she turned her attention back to Kagome, who also had put her bowl down by the fire. “We really aren’t in Tokyo anymore are we?” She looked so put out Kagome did but what she had said had caught my attention. “Toe-Key-Oh? Never heard of it, is that where your people are from?” Kagome gave a strained smile to Kaede, not noticing how close I was watching her from where I sat, my ears perking to hear everything she had to say.

“Uhh, yeah! So I better get going, huh?” I knew what she was thinking (that it would probably be impossible to get back home), and turned my full attention on her. “I have to get back as well, so how about working together?” She looked at me and smiled. “Yeah, we will work together.” I gave her a small smile back and ate a piece of meat using my chopsticks. I looked over at Kaede and tilted my head as I saw her narrow her eyes, looking straight through Kagome to somewhere else.

“Are you alright, Kaede?” She looked at me and nodded, but was still frowning. I suddenly remembered Mistress Centipede and sat up. “Kaede!” she and Kagome looked up at me wonderingly. “Today, when doing my rounds, I went back to the well and saw…” All at once, crashing could be heard as the ground shook.

I was up in and instant, and ran outside with Kagome as Kaede slowly exited her hut behind us. “What is going on?” Kaede came to my side as a building in front of us crashed outwards and Mistress Centipede appeared. From a distance, we could hear one of the people cry out “It’s a monster!” The creature straightened and looked down at us. “This is what I wanted to warn you about Kaede,” I stammered, staring at the monster in shock.

The creature swept her centipede-like tail and knocked several villagers and buildings aside, holding a horse in her humanoid arms. Then, as she looked down, she threw the horse at us and laughed. At that moment, I noticed that, for some strange reason, she had one of her top right arms missing, and then pulled Kaede and Kagome back as the horse crashed in front of us.

We all looked up at the creature. “It’s that thing!” My ears twitched as I looked up at the creature. "Give me the Sacred Jewel!” My ears twitched again, and I shuddered taking several steps back. The creature came straight for us, and I went into a kneeling position, pulling Kagome down beside me, as she passed over, and then jumped backwards, still holding onto her.

“It said Sacred Jewel, bear it ye still.” Kaede looked at Kagome as sternly as she could in such a situation. “I have a feeling we both have half the Jewel inside our bodies.” Kaede stared at me as I said this, while Kagome looked confusedly at both of us. “I’ve only heard stories about the Jewel!” She sounded terrified but determined as she said this. I watched as the men shot arrows at the creature in a useless attempt at defending the village. ‘A Sacred arrow is needed!’ The creature twirled around, screaming, “I must have the Sacred Jewel! I must!”, then set off a whirl of wind as she flung the men away that were trying to hurt her.

“Spears, arrows, nothing works!” two men shouted at us in panic. I turned Kagome to me and yelled “Get on my back! That thing is after the two of us! We need to get away towards the forest now!” She nodded and got on to my back. I then put my arms under her legs, making sure she was secure, and then turned to Kaede “We’re going to make a run for it, any direction?” She looked at us and nodded “Lure it to the well.” I nodded my head and flashed her a smirk “Got it.”

I then looked at Kagome “Ready?” she nodded. I began to run straight towards the forest. “Go towards that light!” Kagome shouted, pointing. I gazed at the direction she was pointing at. Seeing what she meant, I sped in that direction. The creature was right behind us!

“We’re not going to make it!” Kagome shouted, tightening her hold. “Someone please help us!” ‘Damn, I’m still not used to running a long time’ I thought, my breaths coming out in gasps. “I must have the Sacred Jewel! Give it to me!” Mistress Centipede snarled as I continued to run as fast as I could.

“Like hell you’re getting it, you bitch!” I shouted as I reached the top of the embankment. The creature deliberately crashed herself into the ground, sending us both flying. Kagome landed on the ground in front of the boy, but I crashed head first in to his stomach, sending his breath wheezing out of his body as I slid down, my vision blurring momentarily. I brought up a hand to my head as I pushed myself up groaning and looking up into the eyes of the boy who had been asleep pinned to the tree.

I blinked again and levered myself off of him. Both my hands lowered as I looked at him, who was now awake! My eyes held the same amount of surprise that showed in his eyes, and then broke the contact as I turned to help Kagome. “Hello Kikyo, playing with bugs now are we.” I blinked and looked out the corner of my eye at him as I offered her my hand, which she grabbed, pulling herself up. She then looked up at Inuyasha “So, you’re alive.” Before he could speak, I spoke up, my hand cradling my head as I shook it.

“You state the obvious, don’t you?” I looked at her, my eyebrow raised as her eyes narrowed in a glare. “Well it’s not my fault!” I glared back. “You know, it was that type of attitude that got you off on a bad start with me.” Kagome huffed. “Well miss know-it-all, if you had said something when you first came in to the hut, I would not have said that!” My teeth gritted as my eyes narrowed even more. “Well if SOMEONE had not been so suspicious when she first came into the clearing, I would have spoken at the door!” Kagome stalked up to me and prodded my chest as I crossed my arms. “Well, miss demon at least I know where to go to at find a way home!”

I blinked, my glare disappearing, turned and walked a few steps away ‘She’s right! She can find a way home, she has the well. What do I have? Nothing except dreams that could come at any time, anyplace,’ I thought, my eyes sad but my expression blank as I looked in to the distance. “Look, Shade, I’m sorry alright?” I looked at her. “It does not matter.” She sighed, then walked over to Inuyasha, who had been watching with interest. “So you’re alright then?” He looked down at us as I turned to watch what would happen. “Why are you taking so long to kill it? Just do it like you did me!” My hand brushed my hair back as I tuned to the forest, listening for any sign of the creature. “You look pretty dumb there, Kikyo! The Kikyo I knew would not waste her time!”

I looked up at the heavens. ‘He’s done it now! He many be handsome but has an attitude of an ass.’ “That does it.” I looked over my shoulder at them and saw Kagome, looking furious at him as she stood up “Kikyo, Kikyo, who ever she is! I’m not her, she’s not me because my name is-” I shifted suddenly and shoved Kagome to the ground, as Inuyasha looked up in to the forest. “She’s here.” Just as Mistress Centipede was about to grab us, two arrows with ropes attached to them sunk into the human half of her body and began to pull her away.

I stood up and kept an eye on the creature “So, we were saved.” I looked at her out the corner of my eye. “You’re pathetic, Kikyo,” the dog demon commented, grinning at Kagome. She glared at him and sat up. “I’m not Kikyo!” She shouted, standing up and allowing me to grab her sleeve as I also turned to Inuyasha “Look, I’m telling you, I’m not her!” We climbed up, facing away from the creature and at Inuyasha, with me trying not to laugh at them both.

“Whoever she is!” She was right in front of him now, yelling into his face. “And I’m saying you’ve got to be her, ‘cause if you’re not, there’s no way you could smell so…” He stopped, blinked and sniffed the air around Kagome as she glared “You’re not her.” A snort of laughter came from me as Kagome elbowed me. “I know, my name is Kagome, Ka-go-may.” I put a hand on Kagome’s shoulder “You’re right, Kikyo’s cuter, much cuter,” he answered, smirking. Another snort came from me as I tried to keep in my laughter. He looked at me.

“Who the hell are you?” I glowered back at him. “Shade Shadow.” I replied, then grabbed Kagome around her middle. As she grabbed Inuyasha’s hair at the same time, I felt the hands of the demon trying to pull me away from them both. “Let go of me!” Kagome shouted, I gripped harder! “Hell no!” Mistress Centipede growled. Inuyasha gritted his teeth as his hair pulled at his roots, “OW, OW, OW! You Let go!” I pulled myself forward and whispered into Kagome’s ear “Sorry about this, goodbye Kagome” Her eyes opened but it was too late; I had let go and both me and mistress centipede went flying. “Give me the Sacred Jewel!” I could feel the skin on my side rip as one of her legs went over it and saw something small and glittery flew out of my side.

‘The Jewel!’ I grabbed it, pushed myself of mistress centipede and ran for where Inuyasha was, Kagome was on the floor and Inuyasha was watching as I came running. I was almost there when I was hit from behind. I went into Inuyasha a second time, dropping my half of the Jewel, and then pushed myself up, hearing Kagome cry out. Her side had also been cut and the other half of the Jewel had fallen out and was on the ground. I pushed myself off Inuyasha towards the Jewel at the same time as Kagome.

Mistress centipede brought her tail around the tree and crushed us to the tree with me full flush with Inuyasha. “I heard some Half-Demon spawn was after the Sacred Jewel, its you isn’t it?” Inuyasha was looking at her with narrowed eyes when I moved and glared at mistress centipede “Ay, are you talking about the both of us? I’m half demon too, you fucking bitch!” Inuyasha stared at me as I glared at the creature, then turned his gaze back to the creature.

“Half’s all I need to kick your scaly hide, ‘cause anything more than that would be a waste of my time!” Kagome moved next to me and looked up at Inuyasha “Look, you talk big, but can you back it up?” Inuyasha and I glanced at Kagome, bewildered. “Kagome, you are asking someone who is more than likely quicker, stronger and more powerful than you or I will ever be! No demon full or half loses the ability or strength to fight!” She looked at me and then at Inuyasha as he nodded his head in agreement.

“What can he do, pinned there like that? You’re powerless to stop me! Ha haa ha ha,” Mistress Centipede cackled. I pushed against the bonds holding me tight to Inuyasha. “Don’t you dare! If you swallow the Jewel, I’ll let him kill you!” I raged, but in vain, as she began to swallow the jewel. “Don’t you dare!” Inuyasha snarled as he watched the Jewel disappear.

I could hear the people crying out to each other in the background and moved my hand, carefully grabbing Kagome’s arm, turning her attention to me. “Which do you prefer, Inuyasha or that creature?” She gazed at me, bewildered “Which death do you prefer by Inuyasha or the creature?” I repeated impatiently. “I choose… I choose Inuyasha!” I pulled her up even though the body of the centipede was crushing us both, and shouted “Then help me pull out this arrow to free him before we are turned into sushi!” She nodded and both of us reached for the arrow, Inuyasha and the villagers watching us.

We then wrapped both hands round the arrow and pulled as hard as we could, then all of a sudden the arrow disappeared and Inuyasha was free! “It’s gone!” I could hear Kaede’s amazed voice from a distance, “My sister’s spell has vanished!” The light from the arrow was blinding and I could feel some of my strength leave me from the light and the wound, which had been added to the many others I had. “Umm uh, Inuyasha?” I heard Kagome call out softly to the Half-Demon while he was gloating over being free.

Suddenly, the centipede wrapped around us even more, squeezing as hard as it could until Inuyasha slashed down and cut them away using his “Iron Rhever Soul Stealer” to get free. I felt my body collapse to the ground as Kagome was flung away and Inuyasha jumped over the centipede.

“Rotten Child,” the monster cursed. Inuyasha smirked as he turned to face her, his claws ready to do some more damage. “Nasty Hag!” he shot back, smirking as he launched another one of his attacks, cutting all the way through the creature. It fell to bits and I got up, moving towards the glow of the Jewel and pulling out my half. Nearby, Kagome had done the same and was making her way over the decaying creature towards me. I looked up at her as she leaned over. “You have the other half?” She nodded her head; I put out my hand and she looked blankly at me. “Give me the half of the Jewel, please?” She nodded and gave it to me.

I cupped my hands, and then opened and pressed them together. When I opened my hands again, the whole Shikon no Tama lay in the centre of my palm. I held out my hand to Kagome. Blinking, she opened her hand and I dropped the Jewel into it. “Keep it safe.” She looked at me and nodded, her brow furrowed. “But why would I have a Jewel wanted by Demons? Why was half of it inside my body?” I had stood up by this time and we walked over towards the rope bridge nearby.

I was about to answer her question when another voice spoke. “Exactly, humans can’t use it so why bother to keep it? If you hand the Jewel over right now, I won’t have to start sharpening my claws on you.” I leaned near to Kagome’s ear “When I squeeze you arm run away.” I felt her nod ever so slightly as we both kept an eye on Inuyasha.

End chapter one

What you think again? Am I doing alright? I am writing this as fast as possible. Probably an episode a night if I can.
