Kagome stirred, hearing voices in the distant. Slowly Kagome awakened to the dimming light and saw two figures that faced the lit up fireplace. Trying to move, Kagome tightly clung to the mattress beneath her and tried to pull herself up but to no avail failed weakly. Lying there with a dazed look on her face, Kagome gave into the restlessness of her body but quickly snapped her eyes opened as she couldn’t help but listen to the conversation the to figures were having.

“Where did you find her?” A husky male’s voice asked from off in the distant.

He stood rigid near the fireplace, his back facing a tiny old woman who stood facing his back.

“I found her unconscious in the forest.” The women said, turning to face Kagome.

Kagome, surprised, quickly snapped her eyes shut and silently sighed in relief when the old lady had not noticed anything. Hearing ruffles of clothes Kagome peered at the two figures through one opened eye and almost screamed in frustration when her eyes were being forced to shut because of the exhaustion that was overtaking her.

‘Not yet…” Kagome thought to herself, half asleep and half awake.

“Are you sure she has it?” The male said, turning now to face the old lady.

The old lady turned to face the man and nodded quietly.

“I am sure. I could feel it the instant we came in contact and if I am wrong…”

“NO! She has got to be the one. You were never wrong and I don’t want you starting now. If she is the one then we will keep her here until everything is in place and when the time comes for the sacrifice…”

Kagome tightly clenched onto the mattress again and tried to pry herself up but had no strength to do so and at the same time trying to stay awake but with a final sigh, Kagome finally gave into the calming sleep and the last thing she heard from the man was, “She will be the sacrifice.”

‘So soft…so warm…’ Kagome thought to herself as she dug herself deeper into the warmth.

“Child…” A woman’s voice replied in a surprised tone.

Kagome, stirring a little, came to her senses and gently rubbed her eyes as she looked up and saw a wrinkled warming face. Over her left eye she had a black eye patch but in her right eye was the softest stare. She had silky gray hair that was tied up in a tiny bun while she wore a white top kimono with red pants. In her right hand she held a white cloth. Smiling gently at Kagome, she turned around towards the night stand and dipped the cloth into the bowl and left it hanging on the edge of the bowl as she turned back to Kagome.

“It is good to see you awake dear child. We’ve been waiting for your awakening for almost four days now.” She kindly said, brushing away some of Kagome’s bangs.

Surprised, Kagome gasped at the tender touch of her fingers but instantly jolted up and hissed painfully at the dizziness that shot through her head. Lying back down with the help of the old lady, Kagome held her head for a few minutes and slowly placed her gaze on the old lady as she sighed and looked around the room.

“Are you alright miss? I certainly hope so. You’re fever three days ago was the worse I have ever treated.” She said, leveling herself onto the edge of the bed.

“Who are you?” Kagome asked, placing a hand over her forehead, feeling another migraine coming on.

“Oh! Why I am so sorry. I have completely forgotten to introduce myself. Why, my name is Kaede and you would be…” The old lady, Kaede, said holding out a hand towards Kagome.

Kagome turned towards Kaede and slowly got up.

“Oh no! You shouldn’t be moving around yet dear. You have not yet fully recovered. Please lie back down.” Kaede pleaded with a worried look.

“No…I am fine…I just need to get out of here…”Kagome said, hissing painfully again.

Holding onto the Kaede, Kagome carefully and slowly swung her legs over the edge of the bed and yelped in surprised when Kaede’s structure did not support her and Kagome fell off the bed. Holding onto her head tightly, Kagome pushed away from Kaede, who was trying to pry her back onto the bed, and leaned against the bed for support as she breathed heavily from the exhaustion that was taking over.

“Please child, you must get back in bed or Master will be very mad at you. Please, let me help you.” Kaede pleaded, lifting one of Kagome’s arms over her head and placing it around her shoulders.

“Master?” Kagome questioned with a dazed look.

“Yes, Master. You are in His palace.” Kaede explained, pulling Kagome up.

Pushing Kaede aside, Kagome fumbled and fell forward, but luckily with Kaede there to help her, Kagome was brought up, and was pushed away again but Kaede ignored it and slowly placed Kagome back onto the bed. Too exhausted to move, Kagome sighed in exasperation and laid her head onto the pillow as Kaede tucked her in and placed the wet towel over her forehead. As soon as Kagome heard the click of the door, Kagome instantly removed the towel and brushed aside the blanket and quickly got up but sat back down fro a second to clam her dizzy head as she slowly stood and leaned against the bed post for help. Taking in a deep breath, Kagome ignored the pain in her lower back and head as she made her way towards her exit. When Kagome had finally reached the door, Kagome breathed heavily and pressed her forehead against the door, breathing in deep breaths. Reaching for the door knob, Kagome slid to the floor, exhausted and tired already and reached for the doorknob again, but barely managed to turn it and swung it open as she crawled out. Using the walls to pull herself up, Kagome managed to walk a couple of steps before her knees buckled and gave out under her.

“Which…way…” Kagome mumbled to herself.

Looking around dazed, Kagome saw no one occupying the hallway and got up again, but taking her time slowly so that she wouldn’t fall again, Kagome headed towards her right and stopped a couple of times to catch her breath before spotting a long stairway. Wiping the sweat from her head, Kagome stepped onto the stair and made her way down the stairs but quickly regretted it as her knees gave out on her again, making her fall forward. Too tired to catch herself, Kagome gave into the exhaustion that overtook her body and limply fell forward, prepared for the fall but all she felt was a soft and solid wall that she collided with. Looking up with dazed eyes, Kagome looked up into the golden orbs of a man that held her in his arms, securely safe. Blinking, Kagome tried to push away but didn’t have the energy to do it as he lifted her up into his arms and against his chest. He sighed and gave her a glare before making his way down the hallway where she had come from.

Looking up, Kagome stared at the coldness of his eyes and the rough edges of his face as he stared straight ahead of them. Noticing that she was in the arms of a man she did not know of, Kagome began to struggle but as soon as his golden eyes shot right through, Kagome felt as if time had stopped, but reality wasn’t far as he gripped her a little bit tighter to make her stop. Kagome gave into the arms of her rescuer, and laid her head against his solid chest as she heard the peaceful beating of his heart, a soothing sound that soon made her fell asleep.

Kagome quietly lay in bed for the next few days recovering from a flu but all she really wanted was to leave as soon as possible. Sighing, Kagome sat up against the pillow she had propped up against the bed stand and stared out the window and peered even closer when she noticed that it was a balcony door. Jumping off the bed, Kagome smiled when the pain in her lower back was gone and the dizziness form her head had disappeared. Making her way over to the balcony, Kagome quickly grabbed for the blanket on the bed and slipped on her slippers, since it was snowing outside, quickly wrapped herself around it and turned the knobs as the doors opened and Kagome felt a sudden rush of chilling air brush past her face, played with the strands of her hair, and embraced her all around as she stepped out onto the balcony. Walking over to the rails, Kagome leaned against it so she could peer over the edge of the rails and smiled in awe at the beautiful scenery below her. Overlooking the forest beneath her, Kagome saw that the palace she was staying in was built on a cliff overlooking the forest and the sea that seemed to continue beyond the horizon.

Pulling the blanket tighter around her Kagome glance to her right and noticed a few silver strands of thread and blinked in surprise when she finally turned to her right and noticed a man dressed in red. He had three purple strips across each cheek as he stood in a balcony that was next to the one she was standing on while he had his arms crossed over his chest. It seemed as if he was leaning against the balcony doorway while he had his eyes closed. Feeling as if he was being watched, he snapped his eyes opened and turned towards his left as he made a glanced at Kagome. Blushing, Kagome turned away so that her back was facing him and hoped that he wouldn’t notice the staring she was giving him but when Kagome glanced over her shoulder to look at him, he was gone. Confused, Kagome turned around to face an empty balcony and shrugged her shoulders as she looked at the scenery one more time before stepping back into the bedroom. Closing the balcony doors, Kagome felt the sudden warmth surround her and slipped the blanket off of her as Kagome threw it on the bed and made her way over towards the door that she remembered led her out into the hallway and plus during her time at the palace, Kagome had seen Kaede enter and exit out the same door for about three days so there was no mistaking that the door she was about to open was the door that led out into the hallway.

Stepping out into the hallway, Kagome peered out and noticed a quiet and deserted hallway and made her move as she set foot into the hallway and swung the door close behind her. Making her way quietly down the hallway, Kagome gazed at the beautiful paintings of flowers, sceneries, fruits, animals, and then a certain picture that held Kagome’s interest when Kagome had made a quick glanced upon it. In the picture there was a young woman dressed in a pink kimono and there was also a young man who was dressed in a black kimono. He had golden eyes with long silver strands of hair while the young lady had long black hair that was tied up in a neat and perfect bun with a white ribbon. She was sitting in a chair while her head was turned towards him and he stood, powerful and tall in the picture, gazing deep into her black eyes.

“He reminds me of…” Kagome mumbled to herself as she held a finger to her chin and gasped in surprise when an image of the man standing on the balcony a few minutes ago popped into her mind.

“Beautiful isn’t she?” Kaede asked as Kagome turned around at the sound of her voice.

“Kaede you scared me.” Kagome said softly with a hand placed over her thumping heart.

Turning back to look at the picture, Kagome nodded.

“Yes, she is very beautiful.” Kagome mumbled softly.

Kaede nodded, agreeing 100 percent with Kagome.

“Miss…Miss…” Kaede said after a while of silence.

Kagome glanced at kaede and the understood what Kaede was asking her.

“Kagome, and if I’m not mistaken you’re Kaede, right?” Kagome stated with a smile.

Kaede nodded again and smiled gently at Kagome.

“Well, Miss Kagome-sama, you truly remind me of the Young Mistress.” Kaede spoke as she came to stand by Kagome’s side.

Kagome looked down at the old woman in surprise.

“Me! No! She is too beautiful for me to look like her.” Kagome responded with small waves of her hands.

Kaede smiled and turned to stare up at Kagome.

“The young Matser does not think so.” Kaede said as she quietly walked away from a blushing and confused Kagome.

Standing in complete confusion, Kagome turned to stare at the painting again and touched her face before shaking her head and walking back towards the way she had come from.

Morning had gone by fast and when lunch came around so did the evening. Dinner was to be served soon with the young Master and as Kagome got done with her bath, got dressed with the help of Kaede, and her hair was neatly tied up in a ponytail with a white ribbon, everything was ready. Showing her the way downstairs and into the dinning room, Kaede led Kagome into the dinning room and as Kagome gazed in awe at the beautiful white marbled floor and walls. The ceilings had beautiful paintings of flowers while the room was enlightened by a humongous crystal lamp hanging down from the ceiling. In the very middle of the gigantic room, there was a long wooden table that reached the far side of the left and the right. In the middle of the table, there were three sets of candles that were lit while two vases of red roses stood on the sides of the candles. Silver trays, plates, forks, spoons, and napkins adorned the dinning table as white cushioned chairs with beautifully decorated arm rests were tucked neatly under the table.

“This way Miss Kagome-sama.” Kaede said as she made her way down the far side of the left and pulled out a chair for Kagome to sit in.

“Oh, there is no need to but thank you very much Kaede.” Kagome said with a warming hand on Kaede shoulder to stop her from pulling out the chair any further.

Kaede gawked at her and then placed her hands back at her side as Kagome slid the chair out and slid into it. Scooting her chair up so that she could reach the forks, spoons, and plates Kagome looked up at Kaede and smiled again.

“I guess I’ll take my leave now. Have a nice evening with the young Master, Miss Kagome-sama.” Kaede stated as she bowed gracefully and took her leave but was stop momentarily by Kagome’s gentle tug on her kimono sleeve.

“Would you please stay with me? To be honest, I’m nervous about meeting the young Master and I don’ really know anybody here but you. So please, stay with me?” Kagome pleaded with both of her hands held on tightly to Kaede’s.

The old lady stood there with a pleasant smile and patted Kagome on the head as she nodded and came to stand by Kagome’s side. Seeing that Kaede was staying, Kagome gently gripped Kaede’s hand and released it when Kaede nodded and motioned for Kagome to face forward. Sitting forward, Kagome stared at the candles as maids and servants began bring in silver trays and setting them on the table. The aromas of the food soon filled the room with its enticing smell, making Kagome drool at the fact that she was in paradise.

“Kagome sit up straight, the young Master is here.” Kaede spoke softly into Kagome’s ear as Kagome instantly straightened her back and stared straight forward.

“How do you-” Kagome asked but was abruptly cut off when the door to the dinning room slammed opened.

Hearing stomping, Kagome dared not look but couldn’t help but make a quick glance as he sat down at the far side of the right of the table. Trying to peer around the vases and candles to get a good look at the young Master, Kagome was stopped momentarily when Kaede made a small cough, indicating for Kagome to stop her nonsense. Letting out a sigh, Kagome turned to look at Kaede but got a blank stare and turned back to stare at the candles and more maids and servants began piling in to serve the food. Opening up the silver lids to the silver trays that were brought in earlier, Kagome gazed in amazement at the artistic ways the food were put and how much food there really was.

“Miss…” A servant boy asked holding out a tray of chopped up pig meat that look as if it was fried to crisp tenderness and then was mixed with rich herbs and spices to entice the taste of it.

Nodding, he filled Kagome’s plate up with food and so did the other servants and as soon as Kagome had no more room left on her plate for food, Kagome began declining down offers of good food and peered down the long table to see if the young Master was being served but saw that none were serving him dinner.

“Kaede, why isn’t the young Master eating?” Kaogme questioned.

“Never mind him. You just go ahead and eat dear.” Kaede replied, still looking blankly ahead.

Kagome sighed and picked up a fork as Kagome dug in but could not chew comfortable as she felt a pair of eyes watching her every move. After a while, Kagome gave up on eating and began sipping away at the water one of the maids had poured for her.

“Miss Kagome-sama, young Master is coming!” Kaede said in a panicked tone as Kagome looked up at her in surprise.

“What!” Kagome exclaimed through seethed teeth.

“Stand up! Now and keep your head down!” Kaede commanded in a firm voice.

Kagome quickly came to her feet and bent her head as she stared at her feet. Hearing his footsteps come closer, Kagome felt a surge of nervousness build up inside and when the footsteps came to a stop at her side, Kagome heard the small footsteps of Kaede step back and after some momentarily moments of silence, the dinning room door opened and then closed.

“Kaede-” Kagome said glancing up.

“Keep you head down!” He roared.

Thrown off guard, Kagome turned back to look at her feet and heard some ruffles before she felt him move from her side to the back of her and then to her other side.

“State you name.” he said with a certain roughness to his voice.
“Kag…Kagome…” Kagome mumbled with trembling lips.

“Where do you come from?”

Then it suddenly hit Kagome. She had completely forgotten how she had ended up at the palace and what happened before 8 days ago. Fumbling with her fingers, Kagome bit her bottom lip and clenched her hands together at her side to stop herself form trembling so much.

“I asked you a question.” He stated, more firmly this time.

Kagome took a couple of steps back and tried to contain her nervousness but mostly her fear.

“Um…um…I…I…don’t know…” Kagome shakily said.

“Do you know how you ended up in my territory?” He questioned with a firm voice.

Kagome shook her head and bit her bottom lip harder, trying not to show any sign of fear.

“Sit down.” He stated but Kagome shook her head, feeling her control slip away.

“I said sit down!” He stated again but this time more with anger in his voice.

Not being able to bear it any longer Kagome finally looked up and stared in surprise.

“You’re the man from the balcony.”
