Disclaimer:
I do not own InuYasha, nor make money from this story.
Defiling Hope
Disclaimer - Truthfully, at this point I'd rather own Hellsing then Inuyasha. Rumiko Takahashi is safe don't worry and so are her characters.

Chapter 2: Defiling Hope
“Dead men tell no tales!” they chuckled,
As the singing saviors died,
A few serene, the many shackled,
Scourged, tortured, crucified.
Dead men tell no tales… Is Shelley
Dust blown dumbly over the ground?
Are Keats and Burns silenced wholly?
Do Milton’s stiff lips give no sound?
Is Shakespeare voiceless, Dante tongueless?
And, in the black, protesting year,
Is the dead Jesus wordless, songless?
Listen… They are all that you can hear!
~Clement Wood (Poem “The Singing Saviors”)
They sat in western chairs placed in a perfect circle in the center of the room, their whispered voices seeming like shouts in the still air as they argued amongst themselves, their fear and frustration evident.
Something was happening.
“She couldn’t have…”
“We’ll never win…”
“Do we know what other action could be…”
Suddenly, there were the sound of footsteps, and the shoji screen was slowly slid open. Two guards appeared with a pleasant-faced maid who had opened it for them, and bowed low to the ground before the circle of richly dressed men.
One man within the circle stood, his black hair flashing in the candlelight as his brown eyes scanned the two guards.
“You may stand. Where is the messenger?” The words were asked expectantly and the two guards bowed again as they stepped inside. The fire at the other end of the room sputtered, an ember-rotted log breaking in on itself with a loud crash, making a few men in the circle jump and look around. One reached into his pocket where a rosary sat, rubbing it worriedly with his thumb and forefinger.
The circle member who had previously stood, showing himself as the leader, stepped forward and noticed one guard had a large rice sack held tightly in one hand, the item splotched with red.
“Time is not on our side it seems.” He said darkly as the guard opened the sack to expose the forehead and eyes of Yasumi, the messenger they had sent out for information. One of the men stood and hurriedly left the room at the sight of one of his gouged out eyes, the empty socket crusted with blood, a small beetle crawling out from the nose of the victim. The brown-eyed circle member glared at it but felt his eyes widen as suddenly, the one remaining eye, snapped open, the ragged mouth curving up in a maniacal smile distorted from lack of teeth.
The corpse head of their messenger was mocking them.
“Bitch from hell…we will find you!” The leader said menacingly, his eyes flashing with disgust and anger as he instantly realized that it was being controlled. The guard holding it, started when the head spoke, having not seen when its eyes had opened.
“Try…” The word was guttural, unnatural and terrifying all at the same time, and the guard’s eyes widened as he released it, the head falling to the floor with a soft thud. It moved then, the back of its skull towards the cerebellum suddenly tightening, something below its surface pressing out to create a pointed edge.
“No…”
The black haired leader watched in horror as the remaining eye rolled back within its socket, something long and thin writhing just under the skin of its cheek as once again, something pressed against the back of its skull.
“GET IT OUT OF HERE!” One of the other members screamed as the guards and other man could only watch the display in horror.
But it was too late.
Just as one of the guards reached down to put it back in the sack, the remaining eye shot open and something long like a small worm with the body of a snake moved behind its eye. A different member screamed when the head exploded, pieces of bloody bone and flesh landing on chairs and men alike, as a long dark shadow appeared out of it to wrap around the bending guard.
“KILL HIM!” The same member who had screamed before bellowed to the remaining soldiers as the other guard’s eyes widened, the thing covering his face to reach around the back of his head and strike small hooked teeth into his spine. The other guard moved forward, sword out to sever the other guards head, but it was too late, the infested guard let out a scream of pain as the thing entered into his flesh through the hole it had just made.
By now the other members were standing, hands reaching around for any sort of weapon - and could only watch as the guard screamed again, something long and thin moving under its skin, writhing down, under his armor - and then explode out of his chest.
Rich red blood sprayed everywhere and the circle men screamed in agony as the blood hit their bare skin, the suddenly corrosive liquid burning through it to enter their own blood stream. The man with black hair managed to have his face dodge the liquid but his uncovered right arm where his sleeves been had rolled up, was not so lucky.
The maid outside the screen screamed at the sight and backed away as the now dead guard fell, the long serpent-like entity slowly crawling from him and turning to look at her. She screamed again as its body bunched in on itself and then exploded out, suddenly becoming as big as a small horse. Stubs began to appear from where back legs would be and on its back.
Its eyes made contact with hers and she clasped her hands over her mouth as they glared at her with the fierce intensity of yellow fire. Its mouth widened with a hiss as the stubs popped through its slick skin and she watched as great black skeletal wings slowly began to manifest themselves, hooked claws coming from each point. She saw rows of sharp teeth and stumbled backwards against the wall, her body shaking in terror.
“SESSHOMARU-SAMA!” She screamed, watching as the men within writhed and screamed themselves, wearing masks of death and pain, the sounds echoing along the corridor, and soon more guards were appearing with the one member who had left previously.
The maid looked over to see the brown eyed man cutting off his right arm with the fallen guard’s sword and stumbling forward, his shoulder knocking the beast aside. The creature in return hissed at him and reared backwards, back legs appearing behind it to balance itself up. Its wings stretched out around it, seeming to take up the whole room and its head tipped back, yellow eyes burning with a strength the humans had never seen before. Its body seemed to writhe again as it let out a long hissing roar, its body bunched in on itself once more and then thrusting out so that now it was bigger then before.
“ATTACK IT YOU FOOLS!” The brown eyed leader screamed at the men. They rushed forward on command and the creature jumped backwards, its long serpentine tail smashing against the fireplace.
The guards flooded in, swords hacking down the melting circle members to ease their suffering. More continued in, katana’s raised as they ran towards the spawned creature. Then suddenly, a full length window done with cut glance to form a picture of Hotei, the god of happiness, exploded inwards, glass showering them all, their screams of pain temporarily drowned out by the explosive noise it caused.
The beast snarled at the men and backed suddenly away, large black wings tightening and stretching out only to fold back against its sides. And as they did, a figure appeared on its back, black hair like that of a ravens wing flowing out around her, a trim, supple body leaning back to straddle the creatures back. The chaos from before then seemed like nothing as she spoke, her wide grin casting her features into harsh relief. The fireplace flared, its flames catching on a piece of one of the deceased circle members clothing and flaring to life.
“SESSHOMARU-SAMA!” The maid screamed again, her body cowering behind that of her masters, her eyes hidden behind her yukata sleeves in terror.
“You…” The brown eyed man known as Sesshomaru said softly, rage and pain clouding his eyes, turning them a smoky black.
She grinned even further and leaned over, her arms wrapping around the serpentine head. The movement caused her breasts to push together tightly, the picture arousing if it had not been under such circumstances.
“Like my new pet? After all…your messenger helped me make him.” She drawled softly, brown eyes staring lazily down at them as she ran her fingers across its lower jaw where a smattering of blood rested in half-hazard drips.
“You are not welcome here!” He said balefully, holding a piece of fabric to his bleeding stump of an arm. She lifted her hand to her mouth and licked away the blood that rested there, cocking her head to the side as she smiled down at them.
“I love the taste of a tainted mans blood…it sets my body on fire.” She sat back up, one hand resting on the bust line of her corset to trail down over her stomach.
“But you all wouldn’t know. Stupid fools and your thoughts of banishing my kind.” She said, her voice frosty as she gazed out over the weeping maid and injured men.
“We will kill you, miserable spawn from HELL!” One of the guards shouted as he hurled his sword straight for her. Neatly, she reached out to grasp the weapon in mid flight, the action however causing two long cuts to run down her palm from the edges of the weapon. Blood began to drip from the wound and the beast growled angrily at the offender before she shushed it softly and leaned forward to let it lick the fallen blood away.
The cut closed itself immidiately afterwards and she glanced at it before tossing the sword in the air, catching it this time by its hilt.
“Sad little men and your human toys. I could kill you all right now if I wanted...but I won’t.” She said with a smirk as she reached into the junction of her breasts and pulled out a long black rope which she used as a halter for the creature beneath her. She pulled the rope around its head and neck to tie at the junction of its teeth and then held the loose ends with her free hand.
“I’ll let the fire take care of that for me.” And with that her mount backed away, its yellow eyes glaring threateningly at them as it hissed, jaws excreting a clear saliva that hissed as it touched the wooden floor.
“Oh and soldier…here’s your weapon back.”
There was a flash of metal and the sound of it soaring through the air, but the onlookers never saw the blade coming until it was embedded into its owner’s forehead. The guard fell backwards at it, instantly dead.
“Still want to take me on Sesshomaru?” She asked, reins gripped loosely as she balanced on the windowsill, flames licking away at the spot where she had previously rested. And as they watched, they flared to an unreal intensity, soon covering the room with thick smoke and heat.
Laughing, Kagome kicked the creature with her heels, and with a roar, the beast beneath her fled off into the night as the fire began to consume the castle.
