The Demon Within

Sango jolted awake, ringing in her ears and her head spinning. It was as if all her senses had gone haywire. She attempted to stand but a bout of nausea made her fall back on her rear. Closing her eyes she began to slow her breathing in an attempt to fight off the symptoms. After a few moments she could feel herself going back to normal. As the ringing died down she could hear voices outside and decided to investigate. Still weak from her wounds and her sudden sickness she hobbled to the doorway and leaning against the frame she looked out. She saw Inuyasha sitting on the ground and Kagome standing beside him, looking angry.

“How could you Inuyasha? She gave Naraku our half of the jewel!”

“Just listen to me Kagome. Kikyo explained why she did so. She said-”

“I don’t care what she said. I can’t believe after what she did you would still trust her.”

“But Kagome-”

“I DON”T CARE!!!” she yelled.

“Hey you to could you keep it down?” Sango said, wincing at Kagomes outburst.

“Oh! Sango I didn’t hear you get up. Sorry about the outburst, Inuyasha is being very stupid right now.” Kagome walked over to Sango to see if she needed help.

“How are you feeling?”

“Terrible.”

“Well from what I’ve been told you were a lot worse when I was gone. It’s a good thing you’re a fast healer.”

“Yeah, well I’m not fully healed yet. So I take it that Inuyasha saw Kikyo?”

“Yes.” Said Kagome and glared in Inuyashas direction. “He can be such an idiot some times. He still doesn’t believe that Kikyo stole our jewel shards and gave them to Naraku.”

“Cut him some slack Kagome.” Sango said as she leaned back against one of the huts walls. “He nearly died last night. And besides-” she winced as she leaned against one of her more tender spots.

“He might know why Kikyo stole our half of the jewel and gave it to Naraku.”

“I don’t know Sango. What if…wait, what was that?”

Off in the distance they could hear someone weakly calling for help. Both Miroku and Shippo heard it as well and the three of them went to see who it was. They found an old man crawling on the ground; his clothes were bloody and torn. Miroku and Kagome helped him back to the hut and once everyone was there he explained what happened.

“It was a demon. As large as a tree and faster than anything I have seen. He came out of nowhere and began killing the villagers. Please, we need your help before he devours everyone!”

“Could be Naraku, Inuyasha?”

“Sounds just like him. Were in a weakened state and he sends out one of his demons to attack a village to draw us out and kill us. Or he’s just playing with us.”

“Either way, we need to stop the demon. Old man, where’s the village?”

“To the east of here. Please hurry!”


“Goshinki, do you understand what you must do?”

“I know very well why Naraku created me Kagura. To destroy Inuyasha and his group.”
He replied and continued to gnaw on a villager’s body.

(Disgusting. Why Naraku bothered to create such a hideous beast to kill Inuyasha is beyond me.)

“Kagura!!!”

“Speak of the devil.”

“Kagura I should have known! Why is Naraku killing these villagers?”

“To draw you out of course. And to test his new incarnation.”

Inuyasha looked behind Kagura and noticed that there was in fact a new demon. It was tall and had horns sticking out of either side of its head. Its mouth held dozens of razor sharp teeth, blood dripping from them; no doubt from its last meal. Its arms were as long and as thick as tree trunks as well as its legs. Inuyasha could tell from the glint it its blood red eyes that it was created to kill and devour. This…thing was more than a demon. It was a monster.

“Inuyasha,” said Goshinki stepping forward. “Once you are dead I will feast upon your flesh and the flesh of your companions!” and he charged forward.

“Keh, piece of cake. I’ll cut you in two!” Inuyasha said and prepared to strike at the charging demon. Just as Inuyasha was about to strike, Goshinki suddenly disappeared.

“What… where’d he go?!?”

“Inuyasha,” Kagome cried out “Behind you!”

As Inuyahsa turned to look behind him, Goshinki struck him with one of his heavy claws square in his chest, the force throwing him skidding on the ground.

(Damn, this is not good) thought Miroku (If Inuyasha cannot defeat Goshinki I’ll have to-)

“Monk.” Goshinki said his back still turned to the group. “You are thinking of using your wind tunnel, but because of the wound on your arm you fear it might give out on you and accidentally suck in yourself as well as your friends.” Miroku stood in shock.

“H-how…?”

“Demon slayer.” Goshinki continued, ignoring Mirokus stuttering “you are thinking that you wish to help Inuyasha but are too weak to fight and fear you would be more of a hindrance than help.”

“Priestess.” Goshinki said “You are thinking of using your sacred arrow, but know that you are still too weak for it to do any real damage to me.” Leaving the stunned group, Goshinki stepped closer to Inuyasha who was struggling to get up.

“And you Inuyasha.” Goshinki said stepping closer “You are thinking of using the wind scar.”

“So you can read minds, big deal. I will still kill you!” He said and leapt up for another attack. Goshinki easily dodged his attack and struck him again with his arm, this time in the back, sending him sprawling back to the ground.

“Inuyasha, you are a fool! I know what you are going to do before you can even do it! You cannot defeat me!!”

“Well see about that.” Inuyasha replied began to focus. He could begin to see Goshinki’s demonic aura and saw it clash with his own, creating the wind scar.

“Now I’ve got you!” he said leaping up to attack.

Goshinki knew this and some how broke the clashing auras apart making Inuyasha unable to use the wind scar. With the wind scar unavailable, Inuyasha continued his attack and attempted to cut Goshinki’s head off, only to have his tetsiga get caught in Goshinki’s mouth. Eyes glowing red, Goshinki bit down and crushed tetsiga, shattering it to pieces. Goshinki then slashed out at Inuyasha and tore into his flesh, creating new wounds as well as opening his old ones. Goshinki threw Inuyasha to the ground, and when he did not get up, Goshinki roared in triumph.

“Inuyasha you were a fool to think I could be defeated. Now I will send your companions to join you in the afterlife!” Goshinki spoke as he ran towards his new prey. Before he could reach the group, he was suddenly attacked from behind. Goshinki’s arm lay severed on the ground twitching.

Sango looked on it a stunned silence at the scene before her. Goshinki was charging at them, and Inuyasha had managed to catch him off guard and take off his arm. Inuyasha stood before them and Sango could tell something was different about him and judging by the look on the others faces they knew as well. His eyes were blood red and had magenta stripes upon his cheeks. His claws had become as long as daggers and just as sharp.

“Goshinki, you disappoint me.” Inuyasha growled. “With all your boasting of being able to predict my actions, I thought you would put up a better fight than this.”

“DAMN YOU INUYASHA! I- wait. Your scent has changed. You…you are a full demon?!? Grrr no matter! I will rend you limb from limb! DIE INUYASHA!!!” Goshinki shouted and charged at him.

“We’ll see who will die today.” He said with a smirk, showing his extended fangs. Inuyasha leapt towards Goshinki, fangs bared and lashed out with his claws. The sheer force of Inuyashas attack destroyed Goshinki in an instant; parts of his body littered the ground around Inuyasha who was at the moment staring at his claws covered in his opponent’s blood.

“Inuyasha…” Kagome whispered.

(What has happened?) Inuyasha thought (I remember being tossed aside, then I felt my body pulsate and next thing I know, I kill Goshinki. What is this feeling I have, the satisfaction of having another die by my hands? And this pain… it feels as if my entire body is on fire. It feels like my soul is being ripped apart! What is going on!?!)

“Inuyasha…”

Inuyasha looked to see who was speaking to him and saw his friends, a look of fear on their faces. All except for one. Sango. Her face held more of a surprised look than fear. As Inuyasha continued to look at her, he found that he could not keep his eyes off of her. He found himself looking at her raven black hair, those deep violet eyes, and full luscious lips. (She’s beautiful.)

Keeping his eyes on her, Inuyasha began to walk towards the group. As he continued to look at her, he found that the pain within him lessened, the urge to kill subsided. But before he could get any closer…

“Sit boy!” said Kagome and he plummeted to the ground. Once he became normal Kagome and Miroku carried Inuyasha back to the hut and tended to his wounds.

*Sigh* “It looks like Inuyasha tore open all his wounds. He’ll have to rest for a few more days until he is better to travel. I still can’t believe what I saw. Inuyasha, a full demon… it was frightening to say the least.” Kagome said

“I know what you mean. He looked like a completely different person.” Said Miroku.

“While Inuyashas recuperating, I should go back to my time and see what I can work on in schoolwork. I hate to do so with Inuyashas condition, but I have to do what I can, when I can.”

“Very well. Sango how are you feeling?”

“I feel a little better but not enough for traveling. I think I’ll stay here for now and wait until I get better before I try and strenuous activities.”

“Well then I guess I will be staying at Kaedes for the time being. Come Kagome. I’ll take you to the well.” Said Miroku.

“Well Inuyasha.” Sango said aloud after they left “looks like its going to be you and me for a while.”

Sango wasn’t sure, but she could swear that she saw the faint trace of a smile grace his lips.
