Chapter 2 Realization
When Ishi opened her eyes, she was in a small clearing, the moon shining down on her still crying form. She hadn’t known how she got here, just that she was so upset, she felt all her energy boil inside of her, until she disappeared. Must be something to do with being a youkai, she thought.
As she turned around to look, she noticed that she was on top of the hill overlooking Kaede’s village. So she hadn’t gone as far as she thought, which was a good thing. She turned and walked into the trees. She couldn’t believe everything that had happened to her. She had known she was a youkai, but her mother told her never to tell anyone, for fear she would die as her parents had.
As she walked through the forests, thoughts poured through her head, mingling with one another as they became blurred. Her tears were making her vision blurry, as she ran into shrubs and plants. She finally pushed through the last of them and found herself by a stream. She sat down at the edge and took her shoes off, dipping her toes into the cold but refreshing feel of the water.
InuYasha was like her, well sort of. He was half like her. She wondered if he might be able to help her with the questions she had about herself. It wasn’t something her parents had talked about much, so she new very little about her heritage and herself.
Sighing, she relaxed as she let the music from the breeze blowing through the trees lull her into ease. Closing her eyes, she laid back into the grass, enjoying the cool feel of the earth grace her cheek. She really should get back to Kaede’s and try to find some answers to her questions, but right now, she wanted to enjoy the world around her that had not been tainted and tortured by technology and development.
Letting the flow of the stream, and the music of the wind take her into comfort, she didn’t notice the form that appeared behind her.
Sesshomaru looked down upon the Inu-Youkai that lay before him. No emotions ran through his blood. He had smelled the appearance of another youkai, and felt for the safety of Rin, he needed to investigate further. He had not believed he would come across the creature lying in front of him.
It was very rare to come across others like himself outside of his land. He had never seen her before, and wondered how she had gotten there. If he wasn’t mistaken, his half-breed brother and his wench stayed in the village not far away. He wasn’t about to ask InuYasha who this woman was, so he would do so himself.
“You,” He said in his emotionless voice, “Who are you, and what business do you have here?”
Ishi jumped at the voice intruding on her relaxation and stood, coming face to face with the most beautiful man she had ever seen. “I was… well… I mean…” ‘Kami Ishi, could you sound any more retarded?’ She thought to herself as she was lost in the most gorgeous face she had ever seen.
“You have not answered my question.” Feeling her gaze upon him, he decided to walk past her to stand at the edge of the stream. “I want to know how you came to be here. I know most youkai in my kingdom. None ever wander past my land. So how is it, I have never seen, or sensed you before?”
“Your kingdom? Who are you?” Ishi finally got her nerve, and her edge back after her eyes had been pulled away from his. There was something about him that was almost… hypnotizing. “Why should I answer you? I don’t even know who the hell you are, and you are demanding answers from me?” The fire and attitude slowly starting to make its way back into her personality was a welcome relief to the stuttering she had suffered from earlier.
Being unable to believe the boldness of the woman behind him, Sesshomaru turned to stare daggers at the peon before him. “How dare you talk to me as if I were filth.” His voice gave nothing of his anger away.
Ishi put one hand on her hip, and began pointing and gesturing with her other hand. “Me, talk to you as if you were filth? Were the hell do you get off buddy? You think you can be rude and all high and mighty to someone, and demand answers from them? Well let me tell you something pal,” She closed the distance between them quickly and Sesshomaru began backing up, aware of the stream behind him. “I don’t answer to you. Who I am is none of your damn business, and what I’m doing here is ALSO none.. of.. your.. damn.. business!” The last words were said with emphasis to get her point across.
“I suggest you show more restraint, and respect when you address your lord.” Sesshomaru’s eyes briefly turned red as the woman in front of him challenged his control.
Ishi straightened herself, pulling her hands back to her sides, clenching them into fists to avoid punching him. She took a few steps away from him, and then looked him straight in the eye. “Let me tell you something you arrogant, self-absorbed, prick. You are not my lord. I have no idea who the hell you are, but you are definitely, definitely, not my lord. I follow no one. I am my own person, I do not belong or bow to anyone, so I suggest you keep that information in that tiny little brain of yours, it might come in handy later on.” Turning she began walking away, back towards the village, not seeing the amusement in his eyes.
‘Who is this woman who would talk to this Sesshomaru that way? She did not even fear me.’ Sesshomaru appeared in front of her, grabbing her chin in his hand and tilting her head up to see the amusement dancing in his eyes, his face all the while, stoic, and unreadable.

InuYasha and Kagome sat at the edge of the forest, watching with amusement the scene unfolding in front of them. Sesshomaru must have been completely engrossed in Ishi and her words, for he had not even sensed InuYasha and Kagome observing the show.
“I don’t believe it.” Kagome whispered as she watched Ishi push Sesshomaru down a peg or two. She had never seen anyone who had said the things she had to Sesshomaru, live to walk away from such a conversation. Although, Ishi seemed to be the one doing all the conversing, Sesshomaru looked… amused. ‘Is Sesshomaru smiling? No, he can’t be, but look at his eyes, it looks like he’s… laughing inside. What the hell?’
“I can’t believe he’s letting her say all that crap to him.” InuYasha kept staring at the show, ready to pounce if need be to protect Ishi. ‘Then again, with that temper, I might have to protect Sesshomaru from her!’ “Come on Kagome, we can’t let this go any longer.” Grabbing Kagome’s hand, he walked through the bushes and into the small clearing where his brother and Ishi seemed to be getting along rather well, except for the insults Ishi was throwing at him.
“Oi, asshole, what are you doing here?”
Sesshomaru stiffened, he had been so enthralled by the youkai woman in front of him, he hadn’t even sensed his brother and his wench. “Half-breed, leave, you are of no concern to me for once.”
Pulling from Sesshomaru’s grip, Ishi looked towards InuYasha and Kagome. “You know this arrogant asshole InuYasha?”
“Yeah, unfortunately, that arrogant asshole’s my brother.”
“Well, you two do seem to have the same god complex.” Ishi sat back down by the stream as Kagome giggled and Sesshomaru and InuYasha growled.
“InuYasha, who is this youkai, who seems to have no fear?”
InuYasha looked at Ishi as Kagome sat down beside her and dipped her feet into the stream along side Ishi. With amusement dancing in his eyes he answered, “I think you just met your match Sesshomaru.”
Sesshomaru stared at InuYasha in disbelief. “This Sesshomaru thinks that you have been ‘sat’ one two many times InuYasha. I suggest you give me a straight answer.”
Growling, Ishi stood and marched over to Sesshomaru. Standing up to her full height, which didn’t even come to Sesshomaru’s shoulders, she looked him straight in the eyes. “As I said before, you might want to write this down so you don’t forget again, who I am is none of your damn business!”
Sesshomaru stared in disbelief, as this woman, once again, disrespected him.
InuYasha saw the red slowly flow into Sesshomaru’s eyes. “Um, Ishi, normally I wouldn’t agree with the asshole, but, if you don’t answer him, I think there will be a big problem. Maybe he can help, who knows?”
“So, your name is Ishi? Well, that’s a start. I think you should listen to InuYasha.”
Kagome walked over to join the others. “I think we should start with me. What I say will help you understand how Ishi came to be here.”
“Kagome, do you think that’s a good idea. The last thing we need is for Naraku to be listening to this.” InuYasha walked over to Kagome and placed his hand against her cheek. “Are you sure about this?”
Seeing the concern in his eyes, Kagome rejoiced. She loved when InuYasha was protective of her, although she would never tell him that. What with the whole Koga thing and all. Raising her hand to rest over his, she leaned into the comfort he offered with the small gesture. “I’m sure InuYasha.”

After a lengthy explanation of how Kagome came to be here, Sesshomaru looked at the miko with a new found… respect? Is that the word he was looking for? It was almost impossible to imagine that she was from 500 years in the future! She had said there was no youkai in her time that she new of, until she met Ishi.
Keeping his face stoic, Sesshomaru looked at Ishi, waiting for her to pick up where Kagome had left off.
“When I was six years old, my parent’s were murdered. I had hidden in a storage space under the floor boards of our kitchen. I had always known I was different, I just didn’t know how. The man who killed my parents, where looking for me. After they ransacked our home, I snuck out. My father was dead, but my mother was still alive, but barely. I crawled over to her with tears in my eyes asking why they wanted me so badly.” Ishi took a deep breath and closed her eyes, trying to prevent the tears from falling from her eyes, as she remembered that horrible night, and the last words her mother had ever said to her.
“My mother told me I was different. She didn’t tell me how, completely. She told me that my true name was Inu-Ishikengo, and that if I found out what that name means, I would know who I was. She also told me never to take my charm necklace off, for it held two spells, concealment and protection.” Ishi stood and walked back over to the stream, letting her bare feet dangle into the water.
“After my grandmother died, I was bounced around from foster home to foster home. Nothing was ever permanent, and I hated it. I always felt so different, I never fit in anywhere.” Sighing she continued. “When I was 15, I started researching some of the things my mother had said to me. I found out what concealment and protection spells were, and I also researched ‘Inu’. I found out that Inu was often used in feudal times to refer to dog demons. That’s when I really started wondering who I was. I was attacked shortly before my sixteenth birthday. I survived, but barely. If it hadn’t been for an off duty cop, I wouldn’t have lived. The men got away, but before they did, I got a good look at them. They had red eyes, fangs, and pointy ears. At first I thought I was imagining it, but before they left, they said, ‘We know who you are demon, you have something we want.’” Opening her eyes, she let a few tears escape.
“I still to this day have no idea what I have that means so much to them. After I recovered, I left. I’ve been on my own ever since. It was always safer to be alone.” She smiled as she felt Kagome’s hand on her shoulder. Standing, she walked back over to the small fire they had started to keep warm. She stared into Sesshomaru’s eyes. “I fell through the well with Kagome. That’s how I came to be here. I removed the necklace when Lady Kaede told me she would be able to cast the same spells that I could use at will.” Taking a few deep breaths, she calmed herself before finishing her ‘confession’.
“I have no idea why I was able to travel through the well. I have no idea why I’m here, and I also have no idea who I really am.” She sat down next to the fire, trying to warm her body that had gone cold during her explanation. She just hoped that would be enough to placate the demon lord.
Sesshomaru’s face stayed unchanged through the whole story, although inside, he was confused and amazed. “Am I to assume that you have no idea how to use your youkai powers?”
Ishi tried to keep her temper in check. ‘Thank you captain obvious! Relax Ishi, he is a lord after all.’ “You assume correct.”
Sesshomaru thought this over in his mind, two words came to him, ‘Ancient Prophecy’. It had been pushed to the back of his mind many years ago. He had found a scroll in his travels, which had talked about four women who would transcend time, two of which would help to defeat a great evil who threatened to control humans and youkai alike, and two who would help that evil fulfill his wish. ‘Could these women be the ones the prophecy spoke of, the two who would defeat the evil which he now knew to be Naraku?’ “I will extend an offer to you. I will train you to use your powers if you wish. However, you will need to return to my palace with me in order for your training to be done correctly.”
“WHAT?” Three astonished voices said in unison, as three pairs of eyes bulged out of their sockets.
“Do not make this Sesshomaru repeat himself. You heard what this Sesshomaru said.”
“I’m not going without Kagome.” Ishi said matter of factly.
“Kagome doesn’t go without me.” InuYasha said as he put his arm protectively around Kagome. “She is my intended mate. Where she goes, I go.”
Sesshomaru resisted the urge to roll his eyes. “Fine, we shall leave in the morning. Be here at dawn. I will be waiting.”
Sesshomaru turned and walked away into the forest as three pairs of eyes watch him leave.
“Too bad he’s such an arrogant prick.” Ishi said as she stood up, wiping the dirt from her clothes. “He’s got a great ass, among other things, I’m sure.”
Kagome laughed as InuYasha started stuttering. “He is cute, isn’t he?”
InuYasha stared at Kagome and began growling. “Don’t you start too Kagome.”
“Oh, InuYasha, you know you’re the only one for me.” Wrapping her arms around him, Kagome giggled as his growl turned to a purr. “Come on, we need to get back to the village and explain things to the others.” Taking InuYasha’s hand in hers, Kagome headed back to the village with Ishi following them.
Before walking into the forest, Ishi stopped and looked up at the sky. “What am I doing here, and why does Sesshomaru have to be so damn hot.” Shaking her head, she followed through the forest, back to Kaede’s village.

Sesshomaru stopped on the path, and turned around to watch the others in the clearing. He watched as InuYasha and Kagome left, and then kept his eyes on Ishi as she began to follow them. ‘This Sesshomaru is hot? What does that mean?’ He watched as Ishi disappeared into the forest. His body slowly faded, and a light blue orb appeared and flew off into the sky.
When he reached his destination, Sesshomaru stepped foot onto the earth once again. Rin ran towards him, with flowers in her hands. “Lord Sesshomaru, look what Rin picked for you!”
“Stupid girl, leave Lord Sesshomaru alone. My Lord does not need or want stupid gifts from a filthy human like you!”
“Jaken, do not talk to Rin that way. Find her something to eat, while I make camp. We will leave at dawn tomorrow.” Sesshomaru turned his back on Jaken, and walked away with Ah-Uhn following. “Come Rin.”
“Yes my Lord!” Rin stuck her tongue out at Jaken and began following.
Jaken stood with tears in his eyes as he watched his master leave with the human girl following. ‘Lord Sesshomaru, why do you prefer that filthy human girl over I, your faithful servant Jaken?’ Jaken cried out to himself, as he turned to find some food for Rin.

“YOU’RE WHAT!?” Sango, Miroku, and Shippou cried out after InuYasha and the others returned.
Kagome sighed and sat down. “We’re going with Sesshomaru. He’s going to train Ishi.”
“But why?” Sango asked. “It’s just the three of you? What about the rest of us? What are we supposed to do while you’re gone?”
“Well Sango my dear…” Miroku reached for Sango’s hand.
“Can it monk!” A smack reverberated throughout the hut.
Miroku sat rubbing the hand print on his face. “I was merely going to suggest we travel to your village in order to mend hiraikotsu, and to get any other supplies you may need.”
“Way to think on your feet Miroku.” InuYasha whispered.
Shippou started sniffling. “What about me? Can I come too?” He jumped into Kagome’s arms and snuggled close against her, trying not to cry.
“I’m sorry Shippou. Sesshomaru didn’t even want InuYasha and me to go. I don’t think it would be a good idea. I’m sure you could stay here with Kaede and play with all the children in the village, or go with Miroku and Sango.” Kagome looked up to see Miroku waving his hands no as Sango gave him a dirty look.
“Of course you can come with us Shippou.” Sango spoke up, much to Miroku’s dismay. ‘No way am I letting that hentai monk alone with me.’
“Sango, why don’t we go take a bath. I think we need to have a little girl talk with Ishi. Explain some ‘other’ things to her.” Kagome giggled as Sango took the hint.
“What other things?” Shippou asked as he looked up at Kagome.
“Never mind Shippou. Why don’t you stay here and then bath with the guys ok.” Kagome sat Shippou down and then grabbed her bath supplies from her backpack.
“Oh, I left my backpack in the well!” Ishi just remembered she had her bag on her shoulder when she fell in the well with Kagome.
“We’ll get it, come on monk.” InuYasha said as he stood pulling Miroku with him.
“Shouldn’t one of us stay to protect the girls from any males who might be lurking around?” Miroku protested as InuYasha dragged him by his robes.
“The only one who would be lurking is you. Now come on!” InuYasha walked past the girls and out of the hut.

Ishi stripped off her clothes and walked into the hot spring. It felt marvelous. Lowering herself into the water, she closed her eyes and sighed in contentment.
Kagome and Sango followed suit. Kagome gave Sango a devilish smile and turned towards Ishi. “So, Sesshomaru has a nice ass eh?”
Sango laughed and Ishi turned red. “He is cute,” Sango added, as she grabbed a washcloth and soap, “can’t say I ever checked his ass out though.”
“Then you’re really missing out on a great ass.” Ishi chuckled as she tilted her head back, wetting her hair.
“So, besides him having a nice ass, what did you think of him?” Kagome asked as she started lathering her hair with shampoo.
“I think he is an arrogant, narcissistic ass, a hot, arrogant, narcissistic ass. Does he always act like that?” Rubbing conditioner through her hair, she turned to look at Kagome.
“No, actually he doesn’t. Normally when someone talks to him the way you did, he’d kill them. Actually, I think he was amused. And let me tell you, he is never amused. I don’t think the man has any emotions other than, annoyed, bored, and indifferent.” When Kagome was finished washing, she leaned her back against the ledge, closed her eyes, and relaxed.
“How did she talk to him?” Sango asked as she finished washing.
Laughing, Kagome answered. “She basically called him an arrogant prick and told him it was none of his damn business who she was. I couldn’t believe it. No one ever had the nerve to talk to him that way, and if they did, he normally just took their heads.”
“Well, I don’t care who he is, I ain’t kissin his ass,” a smile formed on Ishi’s face. “unless he asks really nice.”
“ISHI!” Sango gaped at what Ishi had just said. “You’re not serious are you?”
Giggling, she answered. “What? You don’t think he’s hot. Seriously though, he is the most gorgeous man I have ever laid eyes on in my entire life.” Her voice softened as she spoke. Her eyes closed as she pictured Sesshomaru in her mind. “His hair is wonderful. I just want to run my fingers through it and see if it’s really as soft as it looks. His eyes are hypnotizing, I could look into them forever. His hand is rough and callused, it holds so much power, yet his touch was gentle…”
“Um, Ishi,” Sango tried to get her attention before she had way too much information on him. “more information than I needed to know.”
Kagome giggled. “Hey, just because you would rather be talking about Miroku…”
“KAGOME!” Sango’s head snapped to look at Kagome with an enraged look on her face.
“How is everything going with him anyways?”
“He’s such a hentai! Every village we come to, he’s always looking for young girls. He makes me so mad when he does it. He’ll never learn.”
Kagome gave her friend a smile. “I think what you’re gonna have to do is just tell him what you want, or show him.”
“I don’t know if I’m ready for that yet.”
“Sango, we’ve all been together for three years now. I think you need to let him know you’re in love with him.”
Sighing Sango let her shoulders relax. “I know,” she sighed, “but what if he doesn’t feel the same. You see how he acts around all those other girls.”
“If you want my honest opinion Sango, I think he’s sexually frustrated. I mean, think about it. If his behavior is any indication, Miroku was a man who had his sexual needs fulfilled. Now, well, he’s been celibate for 3 years. That’s enough to drive anyone crazy.” Kagome pulled her self from the water and began drying off.
“Oh, I forgot to tell you, what with everything that happened. “InuYasha asked me to be his mate!” Kagome began squealing.
“HE WHAT?” Sango jumped out of the water and wrapped a towel around herself.
“Come on, I’ll tell you all about it on our way back to the village. You coming, Ishi?”
Slowly, Ishi raised herself from the water and grabbed a towel to dry off. “Yeah, just let me put my lotion on before I get dressed.”
After everyone was dressed, they made their way back to the village.
8888888888888888888888888888888888888888888888888888888888
Dawn came early for everyone. It was a tearful goodbye for Shippou. He didn’t want Kagome leaving him. She didn’t know when they would return, which made it even harder for him.
They made their way from the village to the clearing where Sesshomaru, Jaken, and Rin were waiting. Ishi’s heart skipped a beat, and a shot of adrenaline was felt as she saw the man before her. He was still gorgeous, even in daylight. Then her eyes moved to the young human girl standing behind him.
Rin, who was hiding behind Sesshomaru, Peeked her head out from behind his leg and looked at the three people approaching. She recognized InuYasha and Kagome, but the other girl, she didn’t know. The girl smiled at Rin, and Rin stepped out from behind Sesshomaru.
Ishi knelt down in front of Rin and smiled. “Hi, I’m Ishi. What’s your name?”
Rin smiled up at Ishi. “Rin’s name is Rin.”
Ishi chuckled. “Well hello Rin. It’s nice to meet you.”
Rin looked into Ishi’s golden eyes that were much like her lords. She started laughing and ran into Ishi’s arms hugging her. “Are you coming home with Rin? Lord Sesshomaru says we are going home today.”
Ishi was surprised at Rin’s boldness. Kagome had told her that Rin was rather shy with new people, but here she was, hugging her. “Yes Rin. Lord Sesshomaru has invited us to his home for a visit.” Rin released her from the hug, grabbed Ishi’s hand and led her over to Ah-Uhn.
Sesshomaru was shocked that Rin was so open with this woman. He noticed that she remained in her demon form, and thought it odd for Rin to approach her as she had. “Rin, InuYasha and Kagome shall ride with you on Ah-Uhn.”
Rin released Ishi’s hand and walked over to Ah-Uhn. Sesshomaru wrapped his arm around her waist, and lifted her onto Ah-Uhn’s back. InuYasha helped Kagome up, and then climbed up and sat behind her, pulling her back against his chest.
Ishi looked up as Sesshomaru approached. “What about me?”
“You will fly.”
“What? I can’t fly, can I? If I can, I don’t know how.”
Sesshomaru thought she might at least know how to fly, but, truth be told, he was grateful she didn’t. “Then you shall fly with me. Ah-Uhn, home.” Ah-Uhn, lifted up into the air and began soaring through the sky. Sesshomaru wrapped his arm around Ishi, who blushed. Sesshomaru suppressed a chuckle and levitated off the ground as a cloud started forming at their feet.
When she felt her feet leave the earth, Ishi wrapped her arms around his waist and buried her face into the fur on his side. “This isn’t happening. I’m imagining it. We’re not flying, we’re not flying.” Raising her head, she looked down as the world passed by them. She tightened her hold on him. “Oh my Kami, we are flying!”
She stayed that way for the rest of their journey. She felt his arm tighten around her waist and could have sworn she heard him laughing.
